Returnee Black Stars head coach Milovan Rajevac will earn $30,000 a month,, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.

The Uefa License A holder’s potential salary had been greatly debated prior to his appointment, with earlier reports even indicating that a potential return for the Serbian head coach had fallen through due to disagreements over an initial $45,000 fee.

The Sports Ministry released a statement on Thursday denying reports that it had finally buckled and had agreed to pay Rajevac the amount.

The Ministry said in its statement that the reports were “untrue and of no basis.”

$30,000-a-month is $5,000 more than what was paid to his predecessor, CK Akonnor and significantly $5,000 less than what Kwasi Appiah received while he was in charge.

The GFA also confirmed that Rajevac will pay his interpreter, Nenad Glisic, from his own salary.

Rajevac accepted the Ghana job with the task of winning the upcoming 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and securing qualification to the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup.

He is to walk home with a $300,000 bonus should he meet each of his two set targets.

The contract is for a year but will automatically extend to February 2023 should he qualify Ghana to the Fifa World Cup.

Rajevac could thus lead the Black Stars to three major tournaments – the 2021 Afcon, the 2022 World Cup and the 2023 Afcon tournament.

His first game comes in just about two weeks’ time when Ghana hosts Zimbabwe at Cape Coast in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The Black Stars are a point behind leaders South Africa in Group G of the African qualifiers.

Per the target set by the GFA, Milovan Rajevac and his black Stars must top the group in order to advance to be part of the final playoffs round.

Borussia Dortmund’s Head of Talent Development Otto Addo has been named the first assistant coach for Ghana’s Black Stars.

The 46-year-old agreed on terms with the hierarchy of the Ghana FA following serpentine discussions which largely centered around job security.

Addo, according to reports, wasn’t prepared to forgo his post at Bundesliga giants Dortmund to become the assistant coach for the Black Stars.

Ghanasportsonline.com understands that Addo has been assured by the Ghana FA that he won’t have to quit his role at Dortmund before he is offered the job as Ghana’s assistant coach.

Instead, the terms of his employment will permit him to retain his job at the Bundesliga club and only fly down to Accra to join the squad for preparation towards games when there is an international break.

Clubs are mostly not involved in action during international breaks and Addo can fly down to join Milovan Rajevac, who is expected to be named the new head coach, as well as his No.2 Maxwell Konadu.

Addo, born in Hamburg to Ghanaian parents, was capped 15 times by Ghana at the senior level.

Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Evans Opoku Bobie says his outfit is waiting for the Ghana Football Association’s choice for the Black Stars coaching job.

Reports in the local media circles have claimed Serbian coach Milovan Rajevac is returning as the successor to Charles Akonnor.

But commenting on the vacant position Thursday morning, the deputy minister said his office, which finances national teams, is yet to be officially engaged by the GFA about the final decision on the next coach.

“The CK [Akonnor] chapter is closed. The GFA gave him a job and per their assessment as experts, we have to move on without him.

Milo the new coach?

“As far as the Sports Ministry is concerned, we not aware of Milovan Rajevac as widely rumoured.

“The GFA put in place a search committee for a new coach and we are waiting to receive their report.

“I can say confidently that at present, the Ministry is not aware of the report and its recommendations.

“Figures are being rumoured and we hear them. We can only interrogate when we see the report before approval follows,” the government official stated on Angel FM Accra.

Milovan Rajevac led Ghana to its first quarterfinal in the history of the Fifa World Cup in 2010. He also managed the Stars to the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, the same year.
