The late mother of Hon. Prince Osei Agyekum goes home October 9 [Check details]

The late Obaapanin Ama Afriyie, the mother of renowned Sports Journalist – Hon. Prince Osei Agyekum – will finally be laid to rest on Saturday, October 9, 2021, after kicking the bucket some months ago.

Obaapanin Ama Afriyie, popularly known as Auntie Confidence died on February 11, 2021, in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The final funeral rites and celebration of memory will take place at the Lebanon Club at Bantama, a suburb of Kumasi , Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 1pm to 6pm.

She will be laid in state at her residence at Bantama behind the Bantamahene’s Palace.

However, on Sunday, October 10, 2021, the family will gather at the Peyer Memorial Presbyterian Church at Bantama for the Thanksgiving Service.

People from all walks of life are expected to pay their last respect to the industrious woman who gave birth to nine children and had thirteen great-grand children before her demise.

Auntie Confidence gave birth to Gladys Osei Agyekum (Kumasi-Bost), Georgina Osei Agyekum (London), George Afrifa Agyekum (London), Victoria Osei Agyekum (London), and Joyce Osei Agyekum (Germany)

Others are former Nhyira FM Sports Journalist Prince Osei Agyekum aka Hon. prince (London), Rosina Opoku (Afua Serwaa)(Germany), Kwabena Frimpong (U.S.A), and Mrs Janet Afriyie Amponsah (Kumasi).

Obaapanin Ama Afriyie hails from Kumawu in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, and was born in 1938. She died aged 83.

She was instrumental in nurturing her children and grandchildren been a committed Presbyterian Church member.

UCL: Ronaldo’s late strike secures comeback win for Man United against Villarreal; Chelsea, Barca lose

A stoppage-time strike from Cristiano Ronaldo secured all three points for Manchester United who came from a goal down to beat Villarreal 2-1 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

It is United’s first win in Group F following their Shock opening day loss to Young Boys.

Paco Alcacer opened the scoring for the Europa League champs in the 53rd minute, with Alex Telles hitting a superb volley to level the game on 60 minutes.

And in the 95th minute, Ronaldo popped up to grab the winner and earn United their first three points.

The Red Devils are now in third spot on three points while Villarreal are bottom with just a point.

Serie A club Atalanta top the group on four points after edging second placed Young Boys 1-0.

In Italy, Serie A giants Juventus pipped champions Chelsea 1-0 in Group H, thanks to Federico Chiesa’s early second half strike.

The first half saw a lot of Chelsea possession but few chances as neither team managed to find the back of the net by half-time.

But the 46th minute saw the first proper moment of action as Chiesa thumped Federico Bernadeschi’s through ball into the roof of Chelsea’s net which proved to be the winner.

It’s now two wins out of two for Juventus who top the standings on six points and Chelsea second on three points.

Zenit, who hammered Innocent Bonke’s Malmo 4-0 in the group’s other fixture occupy third spot.
And in Portugal, Benfica inflicted more misery on Barcelona as they thrashed the Laliga giants 3-0 in Group E.

A brace from Darwin Nunez (one from the penalty spot) and a strike from Rafa Silva, made it two group stage defeats for Barcelona.

With three minutes left in the game, Barcelona were reduced to 10 men after Eric Garcia received his second yellow card.

Barcelona are bottom of the group while Benfica are second on four points.

Bayern Munich, who hammered Dynamo Kyiv 5-0 lead the group on six points.

And in other results, Salzburg beat Lille 2-1 and Sevilla held Wolfsburg to a 1-1 draw away.

CAF Women’s Champions League: Hasaacas Ladies drawn in Group A

Hasaacas Ladies FC settled for Group A of the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League which took place on Wednesday, September 29 2021 at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo.

The Giants, currently shouldered for winning treble(domestic double and WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League) within the 2021 year will lock horns with host Wadi Degla of Egypt, AS Mandé of Mali and Equatorial Guinea’s Malabo Kings.

Coach Yussif Basigi will be presented with fresh challenge between November 5 and November 19 when the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League takes place at Egypt’s capital of Cairo.

The Ghanaian Champions snatched the first slot to the tournament following an emphatic 3-1 victory against Nigeria’s Rivers Angels FC, a side that will also be competing in the tournament.

Hasaacas Ladies will begin the campaign against Malabo Kings on November 5, 2021.

Accra Sports Stadium, Baba Yara & 13 others conditionally rejected by GFA Club Licensing Committee

The Club Licensing Committee of the Ghana Football Association has announced its decisions on match venues submitted by Premier League Clubs with respect to the infrastructure criteria for their respective License application processes.

The decisions were  taken based on the reports received from the Club Licensing Manager from the inspection visits across the various venues.

The Club Licensing Committee was not satisfied with the reports of all the venues submitted. However, four venues namely; WAFA Park, Aliu Mahama Stadium, Cape Coast and the Len Clay Stadium have been granted conditional approval pending the correction and or defects as stated in the inspection reports by October 18, 2021.

Meanwhile, 15 Clubs have had their Main venues CONDITIONALLY REJECTED pending a re – inspection to ascertain the status of recommendations as instructed in the decisions of the Club Licensing Committee.

The Club Licensing Committee shall be making final decisions on the venues after the final inspection on October 18, 2021.

The decisions on the match venues shall be final for the period of the first round. The Club Licensing Committee shall only review decisions of the match venues to update the venue list before the start of the second round.

Milovan Rajevac names 32-man squad for FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe

Ghana Coach Milovan Rajevac has named a 32-man provisional squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifiers against Zimbabwe.

The man who was unveiled as Ghana Coach on Friday, September 24, 2021, is preparing for a second bow against the Warriors of Zimbabwe next month. The list includes Swindon Town FC goalkeeper Jojo Wallocott – a 26 year old shot stopper who has been given his first International call up.

Asante Kotoko youngster Danlad Ibrahim makes a return to the squad while Arsenal stalwart Thomas Partey who missed the games against Ethiopia and South Africa returns after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out of action for the opening stages of the new season. Another returnee is Ajax Amsterdam star Mohammed Kudus.

Fiorentina ace Joseph Alfred Duncan will have the chance to make an impression this time having missed out on a call up for almost a year for varied reasons. Turkey based forward Benjamin Tetteh who plays for Yeni Malatyaspor has also been handed a call up by the Serbian tactician.

Ghana have a double-header against Zimbabwe in the next round of qualifiers in October. The Black Stars will take on the Warriors on Saturday, October 12 at the Cape Coast stadium on match day three of the qualifiers before traveling to Harare three days later for the reverse fixture.

Asante Kotoko confirm the signing of deadly wing-forward Isaac ‘Neymar’ Oppong

Ghana Premier League powerhouse Asante Kotoko have officially announced the signing of youngster Isaac Oppong on a long-term contract in the ongoing transfer window.

The 18-year old wing-forward joins the Porcupine Warriors from Division Two side Bectero Sassanais likened 4-year deal.
 

Oppong’s enormous qualities displayed during last season’s division 2 matches has earned him the moniker ‘Neymar’ as he is liken to Brazil and PSG star Neymar Jr dos Santos.

The exciting teenager has joined Asante Kotoko after fruitful negotiations.

He bagged 22 goals and made 11 assists in 17 games in the Sunyani Division Two Zone.

He emerged on the radar of several Premier League outfits following his exploits at Bectero Sasana FC but the two-time CAF Champions League title holders won the race to acquire him for their next season’s campaign.

Asante Kotoko are currently busy on the transfer market for strategic signings and have already signed Clinton Opoku, Richmond Lamptey, Maxwell Agyemang and Samuel Boateng.

The Porcupine Warriors have also reached an agreement with Medeama SC with the signing of duo Richard Boadu and Samuel Appiah in a deal worth Gh¢ 190,000 pending an announcement.

The Porcupine Warriors have completed the acquisition of the budding talented forward for their 2021/22 season’s campaign, according to Kickgh.com

Ghana Premier League powerhouse Asante Kotoko have officially signed Isaac Oppong on a long-term contract from Bectero Sasana FC in the ongoing transfer window.

Oppong’s enormous qualities displayed during matches has earned him the moniker ‘Neymar’ as he is liken to Brazil and PSG star Neymar Jr dos Santos.

The exciting teenager has joined Asante Kotoko on a four-year deal with an option of a year renewal from the Division Two League outfit after a fruitful negotiations.

Asante Kotoko are expected to announce the signing of the hugely talented attacker on Monday.

Oppong managed to score twenty-one (21) goals in 15 matches for Bectero Sasana FC in the Ghanaian third-tier league. 

He emerged on the radar of several Premier League outfits following his exploits at Bectero Sasana FC but the two-time CAF Champions League title holders won the race to acquire him for their next season’s campaign.

His club, Bectero Sasana FC failed to qualify to the Division Two League playoff final after losing 1-0 to Delsamaco FC in the semis.
