‘Prime John Boye was better than Chelsea’s Rudiger’ – Charles Taylor

0

Ghanaian football icon has rated compatriot John Boye over current German center back Antonio Rudiger at the peak of their careers.

Retired Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Asante Kotoko SC dribbling maestro, Charles Asampong Taylor has opined that prime John Boye was a better defender than current Chelsea and German defender, Antonio Rudigar.

Prime John Boye bossed the center back position of the Black Stars for close to a decade spiced by some priceless goals and has now earned the endorsement of his compatriot, Charles Taylor.

In an interview with Angel TV, the Ex-Ghana international did not mince words in heaping kind words on his compatriot when quizzed who was a better defender between John Boye and Antonio Rudiger

“Ghana doesn’t encourage players unless they’re on top. One bad game and you’re thrown away. To me, prime John Boye was better than Rudiger but see how we always roasted John Boye for mistakes Rudiger makes too,” Charles Taylor said on Angel TV.

Ghana’s football ecosystem hailed John Boye’s contribution to the Black Stars both at major tournaments and qualification matches.

He is dubbed by many as one of the finest central defenders to have represented Ghana at the senior national team.

Talking Point: Everything Xavi said on his unveiling as new Barcelona boss

0

On Monday, Barcelona unveiled Xavi as the club’s new manager at the Camp Nou, and the new boss held a news conference thereafter.

Xavi discussed his approach, what it would be like to manage former teammates, his thoughts on Ousmane Dembele, and how he passed down the opportunity to coach in Brazil.
Here are the highlights:

Xavi on how to fix Barca.

It’s important that we put rules in place and be more demanding with ourselves. Then we can talk about values, about respect, and attitude, because if we don’t have values, we don’t have a team. Then we can look at the model, how we play, how we attack, how we defend.

Xavi on playing style

The idea is the same as Cruyff’s. My first defender is the striker, and my first attacker is the goalkeeper. We have to work tactically, press high and dominate the ball. It’s not about being tough but having rules. I will try to help the players, personally and professionally. I know how taxing it is psychologically to play for this club.

Xavi on turning down Brazil

There was an approach from Brazil, but returning to Barcelona was my dream.

Xavi on signings

Well, I only landed a couple of days ago, we have to talk to the president about many things. One of those is the winter transfer market. We have some top-level wingers that are good one-to-one. Let’s see how Ansu evolves. But yes, I want to play with open wingers, playing wide and that can play in a one-to-one situation.

Xavi on Barca’s injuries

It’s worrying. We have to see what the problem is and find solutions. It’s a task for the medical department. We have an idea, but we must speak with the president. We have to get players back.

On Lionel Messi

I am of course a great friend with Messi. He texted me and wished me the best of luck. I also sent him the best. He’s the best player in football’s history but he’s not here. We have other players who have to make a difference on the field, we can’t think about the players who are not here.

Xavi on Ousmane Dembele

That’s a priority [Dembele’s new contract]. Coached well, Dembele, in his position, can be the best player in the world. He has all the qualities to be a superstar. But he has to work a lot, we have to demand a lot from him. He has to be happy but he has great footballing conditions to make a difference at Barca. It’s important to have a winning mentality and also to have consistency.

Xavi on coaching ex-team-mates

For me, it’s an advantage to have the relationship I have with Gerard, Busquets, Jordi Alba, Sergi, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Everyone starts from zero, but the players that I know are the ones I will push the hardest. I want them to be the leaders.

Bibiani Gold Stars CEO confident of victory over Asante Kotoko

The Chief Executive for Bibiani Gold Stars, Akwasi Adu, has disclosed to Akoma FM that his side will be the first to inflict the first defeat to Prosper Narteh’s Porcupines on Friday.

The ‘Gye Nyame’ club has made an impressive start to life in the elite division of Ghana Football with a win and draw against Berekum Chelsea and Medeama.

However, next on their fixture chart is the visit of the league leaders and 24-times league champions, Asante Kotoko, who are on a run of two wins.

Buoyed by their stalemate in Tarkwa on Tuesday afternoon, the newcomers are confident of ending the Porcupine Warriors’ perfect start.

“Our gate fees for the game will be 50gh and 20gh for VIP and Popular stands respectively. Also, all Covid protocols will be observed, 4000 tickets will be printed, so football fans who are interested should be at the stadium on time.” He concluded.

GPL: Raddy Ovouka to miss Hearts of Oak’s clash against Aduana Stars

Hearts of Oak defender, Raddy Ovouka will be out of the club’s matchday three Premier League clash against Aduana Stars on Sunday.

The Phobians will host the Ogya Boys at the Accra Sports Stadium as both clubs seek to record their first victory of the season.

Hearts have two points from two games having drawn their first two matches with Aduana also drawing once and losing one against King Faisal.

However, the defending league champions will be without their trusted left-back as he has left the shores of Ghana this morning for national assignment with Congo for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Namibia and Senegal.

Opoku Nti reveals what Kotoko forward Stephen Amankona needs to do to produce the magic of Chelsea

Opoku Nti has advised struggling Asante Kotoko forward Stephen Amankona to work extra harder to get back to his normal self.

Amankona joined the Reds on a three-year deal from Berekum Chelsea this summer and is expected to play a key role in Kotoko’s quest to snatch the league trophy and the FA Cup from arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

The nimble-footed player enjoyed a remarkable 2020-21 campaign with the Bibires, scoring 15 goals on all competitions, coupled with 7 assists, alongside three man-of-the-match awards in the GPL before moving to Kumasi.

His performances in the first two games he has started are not convincing, and some Porcupines are getting impatient, though it is early days yet.

Many thought the 21-year-old would arrive and immediately start scoring goals just as he did in his time at Chelsea, and that they would get the opportunity to witness those wonderful skills but that’s not happening and he is slowing.

However, Opoku Nti, who’s a legend of the club and also one-time General Manager has advised the 21-year-old to double his effort at training if he wants to be same player he was seasons ago.

“Demand from Kotoko is huge so he has to do extra, he (Amankona) should know when I say extra because during my time, I used to train three times in a day and that was my weapon,” he said in an interview with Oyerepa FM.

“It takes just a game to be famous but how to maintain it is the problem because when you become a target for every club they make sure they match you boot for boot, assign players to you during match days to play you dirty so you can be changed so you also need to do extra to maintain yourself which is very important”

Meanwhile, league leaders Asante Kotoko will play Gold Stars on Friday in match day three fixture at the Dun’s Park.

Bashir Hayford drags Legon Cities to Ghana FA Player Status Committee over non-payment of salaries

Former Legon cities head coach Bashir Hayford is dragging his employers to the Ghana FA player status committee for non-payment of his salaries running into over 5 months.

The former Asante Kotoko coach who has 3 years existing contract with the Legon cities has been relegated with no engagement since the club appointed Black stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.

A close source to the coach says the harsh conditions of living in the rented accommodation by the coach has led to his relocation to his home town In Ekumfi.

Our source maintains Legon cities owe the former black Queens coach money including bonuses, salaries and other incentives in his contract.

The source said coach Bashir Hayford has no option in this circumstances than to drag Legon cities to the player status committee to demand his benefits and to ascertain his future with the club.

Bashir joined Legon cities in November 2020 when Goran Barjakteravic was sacked for non-performance.

Asante Kotoko take on PAC Academy today after canceling Asokwa Deportivo friendly

0

Asante Kotoko were scheduled to host lower-tier side Asokwa Deportivo at the Adako Jachie training ground this afternoon but the game has been canceled.

The Porcupines will instead take on one of the renowned youth developing clubs in the Ashanti region PAC Academy as they step up preparations for the 2021-22 Ghana premier league campaign.

Kotoko are currently intensifying preparations ahead of the commencement of the new season having returned from Dubai few days ago.

In a bid to sharpen all rough edges in the squad to ensure they are able to properly compete, the Reds have invited the Offinso-based club to test their mettle this afternoon (3:00 PM) at the Adako Jachie Training Ground.

The encounter is to give coach Prosper Narteh the opportunity to try out some different tactics while observing for departments that will need to be fixed before the local league starts this weekend.

The game will be Kotoko’s last preseason game and their first game since the team returned from the Dubai trip.
