Former Asante Kotoko striker, Mark Adu Amofah has joined the United States Army after two decades of football.

The ex-footballer last played for Bahrani club FC Sitra, before moving to the United States, where he eventually decided to join the army.

In a photo spotted on his Facebook page, the Ghanaian-American made the grade for the US Army and will serve the United States.

Mark Adu Amofah enjoyed a stellar career, especially during his playing days with Asante Kotoko, where he scored 21 goals from 29 matches.

He started his football journey at juvenile club, Young Brazilians and Fauzan FC in the late 90’s before getting his breakthrough at Liberty Professionals.

He later joined Team-based Real Sportive, where he caught the eyes of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko. He spent a season with the Reds before South African club Bloemfontein Celtics signed him.

He left Africa for Europe to play for Danish side Sonderskye and Beitar Ramla of Israel. In 2011, he returned to Ghana and there were reports he wanted to return to Kotoko but ended up signing for Liberty.

He again left Ghana for Thailand to join Phattalung FC. Adu Amofah ended his career in 2014 with Sitra FC.

Asante Kotoko CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah was spotted celebrating Isaac Oppong’s wonderful goal against Bibiani Gold Stars at the Dun’s Park with Administrative Manager, Emmanuel Dasoberi, Comms and Brand Manager David Obeng, NCC Chairman, Christopher Damenya and others.

Oppong curled a beautiful ball to the far side. Asmah who entered the box was brought down as his back diverted the ball to Oppong who struck with a one-time finish to the bottom right corner in the 55th-minute to hand the Porcupines the hard-fought win.

It sent the travelling fans at the Dun’s Park, Bibiani, into delirium as manager Prosper Narteh celebrated.

And footage has now emerged of CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah getting involved in the celebrations from the VIP section.

Asante Kotoko got the much-needed three points at the Dun’s Park on Friday afternoon, but it wasn’t a stroll in the park for Prosper Narteh’s side, as the hosts gave the Reds a tough test.

The Miners dominated most part of the game but it was the Porcupines who did the needful.

Kotoko weren’t in the mood to lose or draw the game, and Prosper Narteh injected some firepower early in the second half, with Isaac Oppong finding the back of the net nine minutes after the break.

Prosper Narteh reserved special praise for Isaac Oppong as he helped turn the game around.

“He’s an intelligent player, he’s able to read and analyze the game. If you look at the way he scored the goal, he just saw a little space there and he just put a spin on the ball and that is it, It takes a player with a high game to be able to that decision within that restricted or limited space in the game so I am proud of him, he’s a young chap, I will talk to him to keep his focus so that he doesnt become complacent and will be able to deliver as and when he’s in the game”

It takes a lot of courage as a young player to wear Asante Kotoko’s jersey let alone feature in a premier league game.

However, 18-year-old Isaac Oppong has defied the odds and has hit the ground running with the Porcupines in the 2021/22 Ghana top flight.

Oppong, who joined Kotoko from Sunyani-based Second Division Club, Bectaro Sasana in a long-term deal, has so far been involved in five of Kotoko’s six goals scored this season.

He has scored two goals and has assisted two in three games and one penalty won.
