Asante Kotoko board member Evelyn Nsiah-Asare has said she will walk from Kumasi to Sunyani if Kotoko beat their arch rivals Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

Speaking on Oyerepa FM ahead of the game, Nsiah-Asare said she trusts Asante Kotoko Cameroonian attackers Mfegue and Mbella and believes they can do the job for her.

“I will carry each player at my back,” she added.

The distance from Kumasi to Sunyani is 122.1 KM and it would take her 25 hours cover the distance between the two cities.

Kotoko are currently at the top of the Ghana Premier League and a win for Kotoko on Sunday will see them extend the points between them and their arch rivals to 18 points.

Fatau Dauda explains why his move to Asante Kotoko failed

Ex-Ghana goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda has disclosed how his proposed move to Asante Kotoko prior to the season hit a snag.

Dauda, 36, was hugely linked with a move to the Porcupine Warriors during the second window of the ongoing Ghana Premier League in January.

But, the deal fell through at the last hour when several reports had indicated that the former Legon Cities shot-stopper had signed a six-month contract with Kotoko.

Dauda who was part of Ghana’s team at the 2014 FIFA World Cup has given details about why the move failed.

“Of I’m an experienced goalkeeper and my presence could’ve done a lot for the team even in terms of serving as a motivation for some of the players. But, I think there was some displeasure from certain quarters of the supporters of the club. If you look at how important club fans are, you can’t underrate that,” he said on Angel TV.

“So it ended up that we had to shelve the plans in order not to spark any unrest within the supporters,” he added.

Dauda has had stints with Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, AshantiGold, and Enyimba FC of Nigeria.

Decision to play for Ghana completely up to Salisu – Southampton coach Hasenhuttl

0

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu is yet to feature for Ghana, but he has said he will be proud to play for his country, who have now qualified for the World Cup.

Ralph Hasenhuttl says that the decision over Mohammed Salisu’s international future lies with him after Ghana qualified for the World Cup.

The 22-year-old Southampton defender is yet to feature at senior international level for his country, although he was initially called up back in 2019 when at Real Valladolid, only to be unavailable as he cited injury concerns.

He has previously been quoted as saying that he will be proud to play for his country, but that he wanted to focus on his club football first, with Salisu yet to feature for the Black Stars in any senior fixture, including the African Cup of Nations, World Cup qualifiers or international friendlies.

But Ghana have now qualified for the World Cup after defeating Nigeria in a play-off this week, winning the tie on away goals after a 1-1 draw in Abuja on Tuesday. So does that perhaps change things for Salisu with the potential to play at a World Cup in Qatar later this year?

“It is an interesting question, and we are always talking about it,” Hasenhuttl said.

“I don’t know whether it changes now, but I think it doesn’t help because the team made it to the World Cup and they deserve to play there, and he was not part of it. But what happens in the future, I don’t know, it is his decision.”

Salisu has been a standout performer for Southampton at times this term, making 30 appearances in all competitions and establishing himself as a regular in Hasenhuttl’s side in what is his second season in English football, following his move from Real Valladolid in the summer of 2020.

But it has been a difficult time for Salisu in recent weeks since returning from a hamstring injury, with the Ghanaian punished for mistakes in defeats against Watford and Manchester City, as Saints have lost their last four games in a row in all competitions.

And Hasenhuttl admits that there are still things for the 22-year-old to learn, although he has hailed Salisu’s ability in one vs one situations, adding that is a key strength of the Ghanaian’s.

‘It’s difficult’ – Otto Addo reacts to Ghana’s 2022 World Cup group

Ghana’s interim coach, Otto Addo, has reacted to Black Stars 2022 World Cup draw.

The West African country is in Group H with familiar side, Portugal and Uruguay with South Korea completing the group.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Portugal before playing the South American side.

Ghana will wrap up the group phase games against South Korea.

Having led the team to book qualification for the Mundial, the 46-year-old says it is a difficult group but remains convinced that the Black Stars can hurt any of the sides to progress.

“I think it is difficult and I have not really taken a critical look at the group but in football, everything is possible than in cup games because there are big teams in Divisions One and Third Division,” the former Ghana international told Asempa FM on Prep Zone.

“But it is very interesting because you can win or lose against everything and at the level of the World Cup, everything is capable of causing an upset and so everything is possible,” he said.

Quizzed if he would have preferred playing other countries, he said, “From my point of view, I was born in Germany and I would have loved that game but on the other hand, I look at Germany and Spain, it is good that Ghana is not in that group.”

Ghana is making their fourth World Cup appearance having played in 2006, 2010 and 2014 in Germany, South Africa and in Brazil respectively.

Black Stars’ best performance in the history of the global showpiece came in 2010 where the team played in the quarterfinals.
