Alex Asamoah makes prediction for Asante Kotoko vs Hearts of Oak ahead of Super Clash on Sunday

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Alexander Jeffrey Obiri Asamoah Gyimah popularly known as ‘Alex Asamoah’ has offered his prediction ahead of Sunday’s Super Clash.

The Porcupines will host the Phobians at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon in a Ghana Premier League match day 23 clash.

The first leg of this fixture ended 0-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium and the second leg promises to be very interesting.

Kotoko have not beaten Hearts of Oak at Baba Yara Stadium in a Premier League game since a 2-1 win in 2012 and Asamoah believes the Porcupines will end that winless streak on Sunday.

“Asante Kotoko will beat Hearts of Oak 2-1 on Sunday,” Asamoah said.

Kotoko are currently on top of the Ghana Premier League with 49 points and Hearts of Oak lie 4th with 36 points. 

Asamoah played 27 times for the Reds, scoring 16 times before leaving for Algerian side ES Setif in 2011.

He’s the last Asante Kotoko player to win the goal king award in the 2008-09 season.

Interim Ghana coach, Otto Addo, says the Black Stars’ poor performance at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] was a collection of bad circumstances.

The four-time African champions for the first time in 2006 failed to progress to the group phase of the continent’s most prestigious tournament in Cameroon.

Ghana who were in Group C alongside Morocco, Gabon and Comoros failed to win a game and exited the tournament with just a point.

Addo, 46, who steered the Black Stars to secure a qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar believes the team performed poorly but it was a collection of circumstances.

“The Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] was a collection of bad circumstances, one came after the other and they were very unlucky,” he said as reported by CAFOnline.

“The performance was poor but a lot of bad luck also worked against us,” he added.

Ghana opened their AFCON campaign with a defeat against Morocco. In the second group game, the Black Stars were held to a 1-1 drawn game against Gabon.

In the final group game, Comoros shocked the Black Stars with a 3-2 win.

We should stop selecting ‘short’ players for Black Stars – Hassan Ayariga

Ahead of the big tournament to be staged in Qatar later this year that the Black Stars will also be participating, Ghanaian politician and entrepreneur Hassan Ayariga has offered a timely piece of advice.

According to him, we should take height into consideration when calling up players for the team because presently most of the players in the Black Stars are too short.

Speaking to the GHOne TV, the All People’s Congress (APC) and the candidate of the People’s National Convention (CPP) for the December 2012 presidential election said height plays a crucial role in football matches.

He cited the World Cup playoffs between Ghana and Nigeria- noting that the Nigerians had an advantage physically and mentally because of their huge players compared to the Black Stars.

Hassan Ariyaga concluded by saying he isn’t against short guys but if games should be won, then we have to consider his posture.

“Ghanaians like putting short players in our Black Stars team. Sometimes it’s a disadvantage to us because you go and Nigeria has all these huge players then it becomes like a child standing in front of his father.”

Asante Kotoko has signed another partnership deal with Happy Man who will be the official beverage sponsor for the Porcupine Warriors.

Speaking on OTEC FM earlier in the day Asante Kotoko official David Obeng Nyarko stated that Happy Man will replace Adonko ‘Next Level’ for the next 18 months.

“Kumasi Asante Kotoko to announce a new sponsorship deal with a beverage company to replace Adonko ‘Next Level’ for the next 18 months,”

The club officially announced the deal on Friday evening after the meeting between representatives of Happy Man and officials of Kotoko ended positively.

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah ponders accepting Ghana call ahead of 2022 World Cup

Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah is considering committing to Ghana after the Black Stars qualified for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Nketiah, 22, is keen to be part of the tournament in the Gulf State in seven months time, according to Ghanaian media.

The Ghana Football Association have reportedly contacted his family in recent weeks over a possibility to switch allegiance, as they look to have him on board for the World Cup.

Nketiah was born to Ghanaian parents in the United Kingdom, but he has represented England at all youth levels. He has 17 appearances for England’s Under U21 side, and netted 16 goals in the process.

Whilst not yet featuring for the Three Lions’ senior side, his chances of reaching the tournament later this year are perhaps brighter than ever.

Ghana are apparently hopeful of convincing him to represent them, after the West African giants secured their fourth appearance at the global competition, says the Daily Mail.

Ghana Premier League defending champions, Hearts of Oak have completed the signing of Cameroonian centre forward, Yassan Ouatching, footy.ghpush.com/ can report.

The Phobians have augmented their attack with the 23-year-old for the remainder of the 2021/2022 season as some liable forwards will be allowed to leave the club after the season.

The Cameroonian impressed the technical team of Hearts of Oak led by Samuel Boadu after his two weeks trials with the club and have penned a three-year deal with the Ghanaian champions.

This is the first time the Ghana Premier League champions have signed a player from the Central African country.

Yassan was a free agent after leaving Bangladeshi side Mohammedan SC in August 2021.

Official: Samuel Inkoom completes one-year move to Hearts of Oak; could feature in Sunday’s Super Clash

Former Asante Kotoko right-back Samuel Inkoom has completed his move to the nation’s capital based club Hearts of Oak, the club has announced.

The 32-year-old has penned a one-year deal with the Ghanaian champions awaiting his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) after impressing the technical team during his trial with the club.

Inkoom was earlier linked with a return to Asante Kotoko, where he played between 2008 and 2009, but the leadership of the club turned him down, and now he will feature for Kotoko’s bitterest rivals, Accra Hearts of Oak until 2023.

The 2009 U20 World Cup winner could play a part in Hearts of Oak’s match day 24 clash with Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium where he made his name some years back.

He follows in the footsteps of legendary midfielder Sulley Muntari who joined the Phobians for the second half of the season. Sulley has performed creditably well for Hearts of Oak since his arrival.

The Ghana Premier League Matchday 24 game between Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC vs Accra Hearts of Oak SC is now scheduled to kick off at 3pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Kick off time for the match has been changed due to advise from the Ghana Police Service.

The Match Coordination meeting will be held at 10 am on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.

All Stakeholders are to take note of the change in time accordingly.

Ghana to host WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations

The leadership of WAFU Zone B has settled on Cape Coast – Ghana as the host city for the 2022 U-17 Cup of Nations in June.

The Zone B Championship which serves as qualifiers for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in the Central Regional capital from Saturday June 11 to Friday June 24, 2022.

The tournament will feature host Ghana, defending Champions Cote D’Ivoire, giants Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin and Niger.

The Black Starlets would aim for a ticket to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after crashing out at the Group stages in the previous edition in Togo.

Coach Samuel Fabin’s side have been preparing for this competition since December 2021.

Stephen Oduro names his all-time best Asante Kotoko XI

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Stephen Oduro has named his all-time best eleven he has played with during his time with the Porcupines.

Oduro was transferred from Real Tamale United (RTU) to Asante Kotoko in 2000 and was part of the Kotoko team that won the Premier League for the 1st time in 10 years in 2003 under coach Abdul Razak.

Given he has shared the pitch with so many fantastic footballers during his spell, Stephen Oduro, known as ‘Tico Tico’ during his time in Kumasi must’ve had a hard time deciding who to leave out.

However, In a chat with Kumasi Nyame on Revolt Gh on Youtube, Oduro was tasked with picking a line up made of his best teammates during his 16-year spell at Kotoko which proved not to be a difficult task for the one-time fans’ favourite.

The side is unsurprisingly filled to the brim with top-class talent across the pitch, but there are one or two picks that may raise eyebrows.
