Bechem United beat Tamale City to set up MTN FA Cup semi-final clash with Aduana Stars

Bechem United beat Tamale City in the Quarterfinals of the MTN FA Cup.

The game played at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park saw the home side dominate in the early exchanges.

Augustine Okrah who is Bechem’s top scorer this season opened their account by scoring from the spot before Latif Anabila and Hafiz Wonta Konkoni made it 3-0.

Tamale City mounted a comeback and reduced the deficit through Baye and Bismark Asare scored again for the Northern side to make it 3-2.

Bechem United added a fourth and the icing on the cake to win 4-2 and will now play Aduana FC who defeated King Faisal in a close contest in the semis.

Aduana Stars booked their place in the last four of the FA Cup on Wednesday after seeing off King Faisal Babes in the quarter-finals at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Ogya Boys recorded a deserving 3-2 victory over the Green and Whites to ensure their place in the semi-finals of the cup competition.

Aduana trainer Ben Zola made a couple of changes to the team that lost 2-1 to Great Olympics over the weekend in the Ghana Premier League in Accra.

Nurudeen Abdulai came into the starting lineup to replace Derrick Afeson Boateng with Hafiz Adams also taking Prince Acquah’s place.

The club’s top scorer this season Bright Adjei also made way for Eric Kwakwa.

Faisal assistant Fatawu Abubakar was at the dugout to direct affairs following the departure of head coach Nurudeen Amadu who stepped down from the role last Sunday.

Abubakar made two changes to the team that started in Sunday’s 1-0 loss against bottom placed Elmina Sharks FC in the Ghana Premier League.

Wisdom Appasu was handed his very first start in the Green and White shirt while Zubairu Ibrahim returns to the starting after a lengthy layoff.

Substitute Ibrahim Osman scored from the spot to reduce the deficit for the Faisal in stoppage time as they crashed out of the competition.

Aduana will take on regional rivals Bechem United in the semi-finals.

Ghana’s leading all-time top scorer Asamoah Gyan has made a comparison between Luka Modric’s delicious assist in Real Madrid’s quarterfinal encounter against Chelsea to Kwadwo Asamoah’s similar effort in 2014.

Asamoah Gyan drew the comparison between the two following Modric’s masterclass which has left the football world drooling over his technique.

Modric used the outside of his right boot to hit an almost 30-yard pass onto the feet of Rodrygo, who guided the ball into the net. His jaw-dropping pass caught the Chelsea defence ball watching.

But the ex-Black Stars captain believes the technique of Kwadwo Asamoah was more difficult to execute than Modric’s considering the position of the field he found himself in.

Gyan made this assertion on Twitter in reaction to the comparisons made on social media between Kwadwo Asamoah and Luka Modric.

The Ghana FA has confirmed that the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium will host year’s MTN FA Cup final.

The decision by the GFA Executive Council is aimed at spreading competitions across the country as a strategic move to Bring Back the Love from every region for the local game and national football teams.

The FA Cup enters the quarter final stage on Wednesday with a top liner between Aduana Stars and troubled King Faisal at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park in Dormaa.

King Faisal go into this knockout game following struggles with poor form in the Ghana Premier League, after suffering six successive defeats since March 6, 2022, which led to the resignation of Coach Nurudeen Amadu on Sunday.

Interim Coach Abubakar Fatawu will be on the bench for King Faisal, which occupies the 13th spot on the GPL table.

In Wednesday’s other FA Cup fixtures, Bechem United host Tamale City at their fortress, the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park while Kotoku Royals visit the Theatre of Dreams in Dawu to face Dreams FC.

Ghana’s Black Queens suffered a 0-2 defeat to the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a friendly match in Rabat on Tuesday night.

Tottenham Hotspurs forward Rosella Ayane struck past Ghana goalie Fafali Dumehasi with two second half goals in the 48th and 78th minutes to secure victory at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex.

Ghana’s Suzzy Dede Teye, who plays for Lady Strikers, had two glorious scoring chances in the 4th and 80th minutes but shot wide. Martha Appiah impressed in the left-back role but was pulled out in the 57th minute for Ellen Coleman, who did not live up to expectation.

Sulley Muntari sued in Ghana court by a businessman over $100,000 debt

An Italian businessman has sued former AC Milan and Inter Milan superstar Sulley Muntari in an Accra High Court to recover a debt of $100,000 claiming the player contracted him to book air tickets and hotel rooms for the midfielder, his family and friends.

The Italy-based businessman Rodrigo Renato Gianno travelled to Ghana this week to take the court action after the current player of Accra Hearts of Oak evaded all attempts to get him to pay the money.

The move to travel to Ghana to take the court action at the Accra High Court comes after an Italian court ruled in favour of the businessman but Gianno claims Muntari has dodged all attempts to get him to pay the money.

The Italian businessman’s latest court action is designed to get the ruling so that in event the famous midfielder refuses to pay, he will sell the landed property of Muntari in Ghana to recover his money.

Gianno sued the former Portsmouth and Sunderland star player at the High Court on Tuesday demanding the payment of €97,320 ($100,000) which he claimed the footballer has refused to pay him.

Real Madrid reached their 10th Champions League semifinal in the last twelve seasons despite losing 2-3 to Chelsea on Tuesday night.

But the setback didn’t deter them from scoring a third through Timo Werner minutes later. The German put the west Londoners up 4-3 on aggregate after slaloming his way through the Real defense from the left flank and saw his shot take a deflection before beating Courtois in the 75 minutes.

Just as Chelsea was dreaming of a place in the last four, Luka Modrić picked out substitute Rodrygo with a superb assist from the outside of his right foot, and the Brazilian fired an excellent first-time volley to level the aggregate score at 4-4 five minutes later.

The goal forced the game into extra time and captain Karim Benzema rose up again to score the decisive goal when he met Vinícius Júnior’s cross six minutes into extra time.
