Owner and bankroller of Tema Youth FC, Wilfred Osei Kwaku Palmer has accused the Ghana Football Association [GFA] of frustrating his chances of qualifying for the Premier League next season.

The 2019 GFA presidential candicate speaking in an interview alleged that there is an attempt by the leadership of the Football Association to ensure that his team do not play in the Ghana Premier League next season.

Palmer, as popularly known, singled out the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association as the brain behind the hatched job orchestrated by the Ghana Football Association, questioning the selection of certain referees and the deployment of security personnel to games of Tema Youth.

Palmer’s outburst follows Tema Youth’s goalless drawn game with Nania FC on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Tema Youth suffered two red cards with eight of their players receiving bookings in the game.

“I’ve heard that the current administration has resolved that I will never come to the Premier League. That’s what it is. The team was in the process of qualifying and they did plus 2 minus 2 to derail the process. There was an orchestrated plan not to allow my team to qualify. Otherwise, they wouldn’t rule one case in a different manner. There is a plan and there is enough evidence to suggest that whatever is being said is happening. We lost just one game last season but couldn’t qualify. I’ve never seen something like this,” he said on Asempa FM.

“I was in Tema when they brought 8 armed security men from the Jubilee House. After the game, these same armed security men escorted the referee from the pitch. We provided 20 army officers and 25 police officers. This week, I never knew the General Secretary had a new role to appoint referees. It is untenable.

“There are three matches for us to compete for qualification. In the two matches, Premier League referees were appointed. Would it not be sin for only Tema Youth to have Division One referees. Four of the referees came from Eastern Region. Look at the appointments, it has regional balance but not in the case of Tema Youth. I was told that the referees were Linfold Asamoah’s guys.

“We’ve a game against Kotoku Royals but two of my players took red cards and 8 received cautions. In the game we were not the worse offenders. I can tell you on authority that the initial appointment had Premiership referees, why were they changed? Because I have a game and they wanted to destroy my team before the next game,” he said.

Tema Youth are in a three-horse race with Liberty Professionals and Kotoku Royals for a Premier League spot next season.

The 2021/22 Ghana Premier League continued with matchday 32 fixtures across the venues this weekend.

Asante Kotoko defeated Great Olympics 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium thanks to Franck Mbella Etouga’s 21st goal of the season.

The goal puts the Cameroonian one goal ahead of close rival Yaw Annor in the race for the golden boot.

Annor’s goal tally remained at 20 after failing to score as AshantiGold in Dawu against Dreams FC.

King Faisal’s chances of survival improved after a crucial home victory over Hearts of Oak in Kumasi.

Captain Richard Akrofi scored the game-winning goal in the 91st minute, moving Faisal five points clear of the relegation zone.

WAFA came from behind to defeat Bibiani Gold Stars 4-3 away from home. The Academy Boys, who are in the relegation zone, trailed 2-0 at halftime but scored four goals in the second half to take three points and keep their slim hopes alive.

Relegation-threatened Eleven Wonders dropped points at home, drawing 0-0 with Legon Cities, while Real Tamale United are in danger of suffering relegation after a 5-1 thrashing at Karela United.
Medeama made light work of Elmina Sharks and Aduana Stars’ poor run continued with a 1-0 defeat against Bechem United.

Asante Kotoko striker, Franck Mbella Etouga has chosen his goal against Hearts of Oak in Kumasi as the one he really enjoyed scoring.

In the post match interviews after the game against Great Olympics, Etouga was asked about which of his 21 goals he loves and he chose the penalty the scored against the Phobians.

Etouga has scored some incredible goals this season and it is surprising that he chose a penalty as his favourite goal.

However, he explained that he likes the goal because the match was a big game.

His goal from the penalty spot was the only goal scored in the game in the second leg of the league game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The Cameroonian has scored 21 goals this season and he has been linked with a move to clubs in Europe.

The former Hearts defender snatched the match-winner for the struggling Faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium at the depth.

The two teams created half chances but were unable to break the deadlock.

King Faisal came close and struck the wood work but the first half ended 0-0.

After the recess, Hearts of Oak created some decent chances but could not score and it was King Faisal who got the all important goal.

A corner kick in added time fell kindly to former Hearts of Oak defender Richard Akrofi who tapped it into the net to give King Faisal a priceless win.

The win sees King Faisal move up to the 13th position with 39 points with Hearts of Oak dropping to fifth position with 48 points.
