Asante Kotoko board member Kofi Amoa-Abban has taken a swipe at coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, insisting that the coach be allowed to leave if he so wishes.

Ogum is reported to have verbally notified the club that he wishes to resign due to the club’s lack of transfer activity.

Sources have revealed that the club have not accepted Ogum’s decision and are still in talks with him to rescind his decision in order to stay and lead them next season.

However, Amoa-Abban disagrees with the club’s current stance as he wants Ogum fired.

“Asante Kotoko is under the stewardship of a great management team led by Nana Yaw Amponsah. The success on and off the pitch last season is a testament to this fact.”

“The coach [Prosper Narteh Ogum] should be fired,” he posted on Twitter.

“No one is bigger than the club. Asante Kotoko remains supreme,” he added.

Meanwhile, management member Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, has labelled Ogum arrogant and disrespectful.

“The fans of Asante Kotoko should understand that the management led by Nana Yaw Amponsah is focused on moving forward. This is not a big issue, we can announce a new coach anytime because we have seen better coaches at the club,” he said on Adom TV.

“C.K Akonnor [Former Ghana coach] was even fired. Who is Prosper Narteh Ogum, a coach who has handled clubs like Ebusua Dwarfs and WAFA?” he quizzed.

“Nobody will entertain someone who is arrogant and disrespectful at Asante Kotoko. He [Prosper Narteh Ogum] exhibited his arrogance during Wednesday’s meeting with the board. Who is he?, A coach who wanted to sign aged Joseph Tetteh Zutah who is struggling for playing time at Medeama.” he slammed.

Yaw Adu, a board member for Asante Kotoko, has asserted that there is friction between Coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and Chief Executive Officer Nana Yaw Amponsah.

At the club’s technical meeting, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum reportedly informed the board and management that he had resigned from the club.
 

 In a statement released on Friday,, the Board vehemently refuted the claim that Prosper Narteh Ogum had resigned or wanted to resign.

 According to Yaw Adu, there has been conflict between Nana Yaw Amponsah and Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum at the club, revealing that the board will meet the two on Monday and resolve their issues.

“Yes, it is a fact that there are some frictions between the two parties ( Nana Yaw Amponsah and the coach),” he told Akoma FM.

“This is one of the key reasons we will,l be meeting them on monday to try and settles all differences.”

“I will appeal to the fans to stay calm as we bring peace between them and see the way forward especially our African campaign,” he added.

Asante Kotoko board member, Yaw Adu has stated that the news circulating in the local media over the exit of head coach of the side Dr Prosper Narteh is not true.

According to him, the 44-year-old never said during the meeting that he was going to resign as reported in the local media.

Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum on Thursday was reported to have declared his decision to leave the Porcupine Warriors after an emergency meeting with a sub-committee of the board and some management members.

Emmanuel Dasoberi who is the Administrative and Operations Manager of the side confirmed the purported decision of the coach.

However, the Asante Kotoko’s board member has debunked the reports.

“The letter out is indeed from the board of Asante Kotoko and we only wanted to clear the air on speculations, ” he told Akoma FM.

“The board went for a sub committee meeting, no one at the board asked him (Prosper) to resign and he the coach never at anywhere ever said he wanted to resign at our meeting.

“We wanted to meet him last week Saturday and he pleaded that we postpone it to Monday.

“We were shocked to read and hear that our coach has resigned.

“I repeat, he (Prosper Ogum) never said he wanted to resign, we don’t even expect a resignation letter from him, ” he concluded.

Defending Ghana Premier League champions Asante Kotoko have officially withdrawn from the 2022 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top Six tournament.

The club announced on social media on Thursday afternoon stating “sporting reasons” as to why they won’t be honouring the invite.

“We have this afternoon written officially to GHALCA, informing the welfare body of our decision not to partake in this year’s Ghalca Top Six tournament. Our decision was purely based on sporting reasons,” a post by Kotoko read.

Earlier this month, the vice chairman for GHALCA John Ansah explained why the tournament had been changed from the customary top four to top six.”

“We apologize to fans of Kotoko. We are not looking down on them but we need to keep Ghanaian reps for Africa very active before their African campaign begins.”

GHALCA announced that the pre-season Top Six tournament would kick off from August 14-31 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The initial teams set to participate in the tournament were Asante Kotoko, Medeama, Bechem United, Karela United, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak.

It is unknown whether the reported resignation of Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum contributed to the reasons why the Porcupine Warriors will not take part in this year’s GHALCA top six tournament.
