Tamale City secured a historic promotion to the betPawa Premier League after drawing 1-1 with Ebusua Dwarfs in the final game of the playoff arranged by the Ghana FA to determine the replacement of demoted AshantiGold.

Tamale City won their first game of the three way playoff against Liberty Professionals and came into this game hoping to avoid a defeat which would secure promotion.

The Tamale-based side were on course to doing so after just 24 minutes when they shot themselves into the lead through a penalty cooly dispatched by Isaac Mensah.

The lead lasted for only 12 minutes as Ebusua Dwarfs pulled parity from a spot-kick which was calmly converted by Richard Addai.

Both teams in the remaining minutes of the game pushed bodies forward in search for the winner, but a combination of poor finishing and good defending ensured that the scoreline remained 1-1.

The result meant that Tamale City secure promotion to the Premier League for the first time in it history. Topping the three way playoff with 4 points from 2 games.

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Kwame Opoku has joined Saudi Arabian club Najran SC on a one-season loan with option to buy. An option that the officials of the Saudi club can exercise in the event that the Ghanaian international gives satisfaction during the next exercise with his new team.

The Black Stars striker asked to leave the USMA this summer, because he wants a change of scenery to revive his career. Club officials granted him an exit voucher, on the condition that he bring a club back to negotiate his transfer, as they did not want to sell him off.

The 22-year-old joined Asante Kotoko from Division One League club, Nkoranza Warriors in 2020 and quickly hit the ground running in his debut season before completing a move to USM Algers two seasons ago.

Hearts of Oak new signing Wisdom Bumekpor is delighted to join the club ahead of the new season.

Bumekpor joins the Phobians on a five year deal after completing a mandatory medical examination last week.

He is a product of WAFA and a former player of Gye Nyame FC, a second division side.

“It is a dream come true to play for the biggest club in Ghana and for that matter one of the best in Africa. It is a huge jump for me,” he told the club’s official website.

The talented midfielder is Hearts of Oak’s fourth signing this summer window following Zakaria Yakubu, Eric Ofori Antwi, and Cameroonian attacker Junior Kaaba.

Hearts of Oak are currently preparing for the 2022/23 football season. The technical team has held some training sessions with the playing body to get them fit for the campaign.

The Ghana Premier League campaign will commence on September 9, 2022.

Sports journalist Fentuo Tahiru Fentuo has resigned from Citi FM.

The 34-year-old has joined the Joy Brands (Myjoyonline, Joy FM, Joy Business, JoyNews, Joy Prime and Hitz FM) of the Multimedia Group Limited, as editor.

Until this development, he held the role as Head of Sports at Citi FM/Citi TV.

‘Fent’, as he is affectionately called, brings to the Joy Brands over eight years’ worth of experience as a sports journalist in Ghana.

He is expected to make all that experience count in further strengthening Joy Sports’ position as the leading sports news platform in Ghana and in Africa.

“This is an exciting new opportunity for me. Some of my mentors in the industry, like Karl Tufuoh, Michael Oti Adjei and Ernest Koranteng, have all passed through Joy; I’m thrilled by the prospect of taking the same stage as they did and showing what I’ve got,” says Fentuo.

“Joy Sports already has some of the finest in this space on board – from experienced ones like Gary [Al-Smith], George [Addo Jnr] and Nathaniel [Attoh] to the bright young talents of Muftawu [Nabila] and Owuraku [Ampofo] – and I can’t wait to work with all of them.”

Fentuo started his career in sports broadcasting as an intern at radio stations across Kumasi, while a student at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Upon graduation, he rose to become Sports Editor at one of those stations, Ultimate FM, before moving to Accra to join Citi in 2017.

In the ensuing five years – and especially after his June 2020 appointment to the helm of the Citi Sports crew – Fentuo helped create one of the strongest sports news brands in Ghana.

He was, most notably, host of Citi TV’s Scorecard – a Sunday night sports show that reviews the weekend’s major sporting activities around the world – and of Football Made in Ghana, a Pidgin-English show dedicated to Ghanaian football.

Fentuo was also co-host of Citi FM’s popular Friday evening show, Sports Panorama.

As well as being considered one of the most authoritative voices on athletics on the continent, Fentuo – who hails from Tumu, a town in Ghana’s Upper West Region – is known for his in-depth knowledge across multiple sports.

The well-travelled broadcaster has covered many competitions, such as the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Athletics Championships – including the latest edition of the latter, in Oregon, USA – and has been featured on international platforms like the BBC, World Athletics, Newzroom Afrika and CGTN.

Fentuo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and English from the University of Ghana and Elon University (USA).

As mentioned previously, he prefers to go by the name Fent, but the Joy Sports team are determined to keep the popular nickname he has – they will call him “Tumu Jon Snow”.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that two Referees have been charged for breaching Article 26 of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019 and Article 11(1) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019.

The two referees who are Referee Philip Atta Forson and Isaac Osei have both been charged after being found by the GFA integrity Officer to have placed bets on sports betting platforms on various football matches.

Charge sheets have been sent to the two referees and they are expected to send their written responses on or before 5pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022.

After receiving their responses, the GFA Disciplinary Committee will form a panel to adjudicate their respective cases.

One-time Indomitable Lions of Cameroon custodian Pouaty Dendoum Moise D’assise has reached an agreement to join Asante Kotoko on a free transfer.

The Porcupines have been in the market searching for a replacement for Razak Abalora who left to join Sheriff Tiraspol in the second round of last season.

However, it seems the Reds have gotten a perfect replacement for Abalora in the shape of Cameroonian goalkeeper Moise Pouaty after successful talks.

The 26-year-old former Union Sportive of Douala shot stopper was classed amongst best upcoming goalkeepers in the Central African nation less than four years ago earning a call-up to the Cameroon national team and eventually to Switchbacks FC in the US.

Unfortunately the career of the native of Mbanga didn’t go as planned while in the US, prompting a termination of contract and eventual return home to join AS Fortuna.He played 43 games, conceded 63 and kept 11 clean sheets in two seasons for Switcbacks in the USA. 

The Porcupines have already extended Danlad Ibrahim’s contract and are already in talks to renew Kwame Baah’s contract for another season.
