Reports: Medeama initiates move for ex-Kotoko coach Ogum

Ghana Premier League club Medeama SC have made amends in securing the signature of immediately past Head Coach of Asante Kotoko Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.

The former Asante Kotoko gaffer tendered in his resignation on Monday after ten months of active work with the Ghanaian champions.

Information gathered indicates that two-time FA Cup Champions, Medeama SC have made inquiries on the availability of the University of Cape Coast lecturer and are ready to offer him a juicy contract in their quest to win the GPL diadem.

Medeama SC finished in top four of the just ended Ghana Premier League but failed to secure a berth in Africa Club Competitions for next season which were picked by Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

Umar Abdul Rabi, who led the technical team of the club for most of last season as a stop gap coach will be relegated to his original position as an assistant coach should Prosper Narteh Ogum joins the club.

He has previously managed Ebusua Dwarfs, Karela United, WAFA where led them to finish 3rd on the 2020/21 league log and Asante Kotoko.

Hearts Of Oak defeat Revelation FC in a pre-season friendly

Hearts of Oak on Tuesday played a pre-season friendly with lower-tier side Revelation FC at the St. Thomas Aquinas Park ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Goals from Isaac Mensah and Bernard Obour ensured that Hearts of Oak recorded a 2-0 win over the lower-tier side Revelation FC.

Mensah opened the scoring for the Phobian before Bernard Obour doubled the lead via a spot-kick awarded to them after trialist Gideon Asante Yeboah was fouled in the penalty area.

Hearts of Oak are currently preparing for the 2022/23 season which kicks off with their participation in the GHALCA Top 6 tournament.

Hearts of Oak will compete in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup scheduled to commence in September.

Asante Kotoko announce signing of Ivorian midfielder Eric Serge Zézé

Asante Kotoko SC have announced the acquisition of Ivorian midfielder Eric Serge Zézé on a free transfer ahead of the 2022-23 football campaign.

The former ASEC Mimosas youngster signed a three-year contract with the Porcupine Warriors on Tuesday after passing his medical examination.

The 23-year-old was promoted to the ASEC first team in 2020 after spending some time in the academy. He left the Ivorian giants the following year

Zézé has been training with Kotoko in Accra since last week where he has impressed the technical handlers with his performances.

He becomes the sixth signing of the Ghana champions after Moise D’assise Pouaty, Frederick Asare, Thomas Peleg Djomian, Ernest Osei Owusu and Uganda international Steven Dese Mukwala.

Inactive Gyan cannot compare himself to Roger Milla – Polo

Former Ghana international Mohammed Polo has taken a swipe at Asamoah Gysn, stating that the former Sunderland striker is inactive and should not compare himself to Cameroon legend Roger Milla.
 
Gyan, who is Ghana’s all-time top scorer, has expressed his desire to play for the Black Stars at the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

In an interview with the BBC’s John Bennett, Gyan admitted he is not fully fit at the moment and is working hard to be in good shape.

But he was quick to indicate that “anything can happen” with regard to him returning to the Black Stars squad for the World Cup because “it has happened before back in 1994 when Roger Milla came back from retirement to play in the World Cup.”

However, the outspoken Polo believes that the situations surrounding Gyan and Milla are not the same.

“We must be serious with our football, this is our fourth time going to the world cup and Ghana wants to make an impact, ” he told Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

“Gyan still has the opportunity though he is aged. Some of his age mates are still playing regularly.

“Is he (Gyan) actively playing now? We know what he can do when he is active, so if he wants to play again for the Black Stars, he should register for a local team just like Sulley and prove his worth. Everything stops with coach (Otto Addo).

“Roja Mila did same and played well in the World Cup but the question is ” are the situations the same”?

“We want to make an impact going to the world cup so all needed necessities must be explore but like I said we must be serious with our football.”

Gyan’s last appearance for the country was during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations game against Tunisia and despite the long absence from the national team, the player is yet to retire from international football.

The 36-year-old’s last competitive season came during the 202/21 Ghana Premier League season where he featured five times for Legon Cities.

Ghana Premier League Hearts of Oak have signed highly-rated young goalkeeper Jonathan Danso ahead of the new season, according to reports.

The 19-year-old joins the Phobians on a long-term deal from Tema United Sporting Club for an undisclosed fee.

Danso has had a stint with Division two side in Tema before joining Tema United.

Hearts are expected to announce the signing of the goalkeeper in the coming days and will join coach Samuel Boadu’s side for pre-season.

The Phobians have four goalkeepers namely Richard Attah, Eric Ofori Antwi, Richmond Ayi and Richard Baidoo in their fold.

The 2022/23 betPawa Premier League season will kick start on the weekend of Friday, September 9 to Monday, September 12, 2022, across all nine league centers.

The fixtures for the upcoming season were released last week to enable clubs to prepare adequately for the season.

Hearts of Oak will travel to Dormaa to face Aduana Stars at the Agyeman Badu Park in their opening league campaign.

FC Samartex 1996 has struck a deal with Hearts of Oak for the transfer of goalkeeper Richard Baidoo.

The goalkeeper has seen limited appearances since earning promotion from Auroras to join the Hearts of Oak first team.

Baidoo spent a season on loan at Karela United where he was their regular goalkeeper.

Having impressed during his stint at the Nzema club, the shot-stopper returned to Hearts of Oak last season hoping to challenge for a starting spot.

However, he spent most of the season deputising for Richard Attah and Richmond Ayi.

His only appearance for Hearts of Oak was in the CAF Confederations Cup 2nd leg tie against JS Sauora where the Phobians lost 4-0.

While earlier reports suggested that Richard Baidoo had requested contract termination, reports reaching footy.ghpush.com/ suggest that FC Samartex has agreed on a deal with Hearts of Oak for the goalkeeper’s signature.

Asamoah Gyan targets Black Stars return ahead of 2022 World Cup

Ghana’s all-time top scorer, Asamoah Gyan, has set his sights on playing for the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Gyan’s last appearance for the country was during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations game against Tunisia and despite the long absence from the national team, the player is yet to retire from international football.

“I just need to get my body back in shape, so I have started training of course and I’ll see how my body reacts to playing competitive football.

“Talent wise, everything is there already, so I just have to prepare physically and then we’ll see what happens.”

Ghana Premier League newcomers, FC Samartex 1996 have announced the acquisition of ‘terrific midfielder ‘ Emmanuel Keyekeh on a permanent deal.

The former Asante Kotoko has joined the Timber giants on a free transfer after winning the league title with Kotoko last season.

A club statement read;

“We are super excited to announce that terrific midfielder, Emmanuel Kayekeh, has joined us on a permanent deal.

“The midfielder whose quality has never been in doubt joins us on a free transfer.”
