Abdul Ganiyu rescinds decision to leave Asante Kotoko

The former captain of the Ghanaian champions, Abdul Ganiyu apparently wrote to the top hierarchy of Kotoko requesting his contract with the club to be terminated.

Few days after his request was put through, the defender has reconsidered his decision to leave after meeting with the club’s management.

Ganiyu was to be part of the Kotoko travelling squad to Sudan for the pre-season training but due to the impending issue, he was left out of the team that travel to Sudan.

The hardworking defender extended his contract by 2 years with Kotoko in September 2021.

Upon further deliberation, he has now decided to stay and run out his one year contract.

Asante Kotoko on Tuesday, 23rd September 2022 named Richard Boadu as the new captain of the team with Yusif Mubarik and Danlad Ibrahim as the 1st and 2nd deputies.

Ganiyu was named the captain of Kotoko last year after long-serving former captain Felix Annan left the club following an 11-year stint with Kotoko.

Match Report: Al Hilal beat Asante Kotoko in first pre-season game in Sudan

Asante Kotoko suffered a 2-0 loss to Al Hilal in their pre-season friendly on Tuesday in Sudan.

A goal from each halves from the host condemned the Porcupines to a defeat in the keenly contested game.

Kotoko are in Sudan for a pre-season tour as coach Seydou Zerbo fine-tune his team ahead of the start of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League and the CAF Champions League which kick off next month.

The coach gave his new players the opportunity to make their friendly debut with eric Zeze, Sheriff Mohammed, Nicholas Mensah, Nicholas Bonsu, Steven Mukwala Enoch Morrison and Moise Pouaty all starting.

The team will engage in series of friendlies before making a return to Ghana next month. The Porcupines will next take on Al Hilal in a return fixture before taking Simba and an unknown club.

Kotoko will be hoping to defend their Premier League title as well as making a group stge berth in the Champions League.

Match Report: Qatar beat Black Galaxies in international friendly

Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies suffered a 2-1 defeat to the senior national team of Qatar in a friendly encounter at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria.

The Black Galaxies after a slow start to the game found themselves a goal after just 2 minutes of kickoff. Qatar probed and doubled their lead in the 26th minute.

In the 68th minute, Daniel Afriyie pulled a goal back to give Ghana hope of a comeback. However, the Qatar defense stayed resilient to win 2-1.

Despite the defeat, the Black Galaxies gave a good account of themselves in the game which forms part of their preparations for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) final round qualifiers against Nigeria.

The first leg of the qualifier is slated for Sunday, August 28, 2022 at the Cape Coast Stadium and the second leg at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday, September 3.

Meanwhile, the Black Galaxies team is expected to be back in Ghana on Thursday, August 26 to intensify preparations for the qualifiers in Cape Coast.

Ghana is in hunt for a record 4th CHAN tournament having missed out on the last three editions in 2016, 2018 and 2020.

The Black Galaxies finished 2nd in the 1st edition in 2009 after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final in Cote D’Ivoire.

Asante Kotoko head coach Seydou Zerbo has named his starting line for the club’s first friendly after his arrival against Al Hilal on Sudan this evening.

He has handed starting berth to Cameroonian goalkeeper Moise Pouaty. In defence are Christopher Nettey, Yussif Mubarik, newly-signed Sheriff Mohammed and Nicholas Osei Bonsu.

 The others are midfielder Serge Zeze Eric, Enoch Morrison and Richard Boadu

Isaac Oppong, Steven Mukwala and Nicholas Mensah are leading the attack for the Reds who are in the North African country for the second phase of their pre-season.

Kickoff is 1700hrs GMT.

Frederick Ansah Botchway leaves Hearts of Oak for FC Samartex

Newly-promoted Ghana Premier League side, FC Samartex 1996 have secured the services of Frederick Ansah Botchway from Hearts of Oak.

The 25-year-old has penned a two-year contract with the Timber giants ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Hearts of Oak in a release prior to the start of their pre-season activities indicated that the former Liberty Professionals is surplus to requirements.

He becomes the latest addition to FC Samartex 1996’s strategic signings after securing the services of Larry Sumaila Ibrahim, Richard Baidoo, Kofi Baah, Emmanuel Acquah, Emmanuel Keyekeh, Gabriel Bonnah and Seidu Abubakar.

The Samreboi-based side will be hoping to retain their Premier League status going into the new season.

They got promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight after winning the 2022/23 Division One Zone Two league.

Ghanaian defender Kwaku Duah joins Ethiopian Premier League side Ethiopian Coffee FC

Ethiopian Premier League side Ethiopian Coffee FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian defender Kwaku Duah.

The former Bibiani Goldstars centre-back has signed a two-year contract with Coffee having joined the club on free transfer.

Duah parted ways with Goldstars after his contract expired at the end of the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League season.

The 23-year-old guardsman joined Goldstars in October 2020 from King Faisal Babes in Kumasi and helped the Miners to gain promotion to the Ghanaian top-flight same season.

Duah managed to play 29 matches out of 34 in the Ghana League last season as he contributed immensely for Goldstars to avoid the drop in the end.

He previously played for second-tier side New Edubiase United FC before heading to Faisal in November 2019.

Hearts Of Oak new signing, Maxwell Abbey Quaye has indicated that it was not easy departing Great Olympics on the transfer deadline day.

The Phobians acquired the services of forward Abbey Quaye late on Monday night after a fruitful negotiations.

The versatile forward has joined Hearts on a three-year deal which runs until 2025.

Abbey decided against extending his contract with Great Olympics which has expired after joining in 2017.

Abbey Quaye, who is currently with the Black Galaxies in Austria took to his Twitter account to confirm the deal, noting that he hopes to succeed with his new club.

“I came i saw and i Conquered. We all trying to make this world a better place to live. Leaving my dear club Great Olympics is like leaving the earth to a different planet where things are gonna be new around but talent never fades long live DADE #MQ7 #W) NKW3 AM3.”

He was the top scorer for the Olympics in the just-completed 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season with 10 goals in 27 matches. In the season before that(2020/21), he scored 9 goals in 24 games.

Richard Boadu named new Asante Kotoko captain

Asante Kotoko have officially announced four new captains for the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

Richard Bodu, who joined the club last season from Medeama, has been named the new skipper of the Porcupines.

Boadu takes over from Abdul Ganiyu who is on his way out of the club after requesting for contract termination.

Defender Yusif Mubarik, goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad and defender Christopher Nettey and new signing Moise Pouaty have been named as the four assistant captains for the club.
