Caf CL: RC Kadiogo vs Kotoko to be played in Cote d’Ivoire

Rail Club du Kadiogo will host their 2022/23 Caf Champions League preliminary round first-leg tie against Asante Kotoko in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Ouagadougou-based Burkinabé league champions currently are unable to host continental matches on home-soil as current facilities are being renovated to meet the required standards set by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

As a result, Kadiogo – as well as AS Douanes who will also be representing Burkina in the Caf Confederation Cup – have adopted the new 20,000-capacity Stade de Yamoussoukro which was commissioned by close-border neighbours Cote d’Ivoire in June as home grounds.

The Falcons will thus host the Porcupine Warriors at Stade de Yamoussoukro on Friday, September 9, 2022. Kickoff is 16:00 GMT.

AS Douanes also host AS Real de Bamako at the same venue two days later. The winner on aggregate will advance to face Ghana’s Hearts of Oak in the second preliminary round of the 2022/23 Caf Confederation Cup.

Mohammed Kudus better than Tadic at no.10 – Ajax legend

Ajax Amsterdam legend Theo Janssen has criticized coach Alfred Schreuder for not starting Mohammed Kudus in his 2022/23 Eredivisie games.

The Ghanaian midfielder has been a substitute in the Dutch giants’ matches so far in the top-flight league and a reported move to English side Everton or Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Schreuder’s first three fixtures have seen Kudus play 38 minutes and that even includes additional time.

Against Fortuna Sittard, the Ajax number 20 only played in the five extra minutes added by the match referee.

Janssen, speaking to VTBL in an interview asserts that Kudus needs more playing time because he is the best number 10 in the squad.

“They have to find a place because the important players have to keep playing.

“I think Kudus is a much better player than Tadic in the long run at the No 10 position. I would already be playing Kudus by now.

“Against PSV and in the Champions League, you can’t be playing Tadic at No 10. I’m convinced of that.”

Belgium giants Club Brugge and German side Borussia Monchengladbach are all interested in Mohammed Kudus.

The semi-final games of the GHALCA G6 tournament were played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, August 26. 

Emmanuel Agyemang Badu missed his kick as Great Olympics defeated Berekum Chelsea 7-6 on penalties. 

Berekum Chelsea and Great Olympics played a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes and had to be decided on penalties. 

Great Olympics won the marathon penalty shootout to face the Hunters who beat Medeama 3-2 in the first semi-final game. 

Great Olympics will play Bechem United in the final on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium

GHALCA G6: Bechem United defeat Medeama to reach final

2021/22 FA Cup finalist Bechem United reached the final of the GHALCA G6 after beating Medeama in a thrilling semi-final contest on Friday afternoon. 

The Hunters defeated Karela United 3-2 and will now face the winner of the other semi-final match between Karela United and Great Olympics.

Bechem took the lead 14 minutes into the first half after a good team play.

Despite efforts to re-enter the game, Medeama SC were unable to break through the opponent’s defence.

Rashid Nortey converted a spot kick in the second half to draw Medeama level.

But two quick goals from Bechem United propelled them to victory.

Sudanese giants Al Hilal obliterate Asante Kotoko in second pre-season friendly

Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko were destroyed by Al Hilal in a pre-season friendly in Sudan on Friday evening.

Kotoko, who are preparing for the upcoming season in the North African country, were thrashed 5-0 as the Sudanese champions made it back-to-back wins over the Porcupine Warriors.

Hilal won 2-0 earlier this week, but on Friday they scored five goals in a completely dominant display at the Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.

Kotoko made a strong start, threatening to avenge Tuesday’s defeat, but it all came crashing down in the 23rd minute when Hilal scored the first goal.

The goal boosted their confidence, and they went on a scoring spree, netting in the 44th, 55th, 62nd, and 90th minutes to complete the friendly double over Kotoko.

It is the second defeat for Burkinabe gaffer Seydou Zerbo, who was appointed Kotoko coach last week, and he must be worried as the season begins in two weeks.

Kotoko have two more friendlies, one against Tanzanian giants Simba, to play in Sudan before completing their preparations for the new season.

Kotoko’s season will begin with a difficult match against Burkinabe champions RC Kadiogo in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Togolese referees to officiate Asante Kotoko vs RC du Kadiogo Caf Champions League first leg tie

Togolese referee Yelebodom Gado Mawabwe has been handed the CAF Champions League first preliminary match between Rail Club du Kadiogo (RCK)(Burkina Faso) VS Asante Kotoko(Ghana).                

He will be assisted by compatriots Jonathan Ahonto Koffi and Ourotou Agba with Komlanvi Aklassou as the fourth official.

Germain Didier Simplice Nguiamba will be the Match Commissioner.

The match will be played at the Stade de Yamoussoukro in Cote D’Ivoire
