Asante Kotoko cracks down on unauthorized filming of training sessions and team activities

Asante Kotoko SC has issued a formal warning regarding the unauthorized filming of official training sessions for both our senior and junior men’s teams, as well as activities under THE KING’S PROJECT.

The hierarchy categorically demand that all media houses and individuals engaging in this unauthorized activity cease and desist immediately.

“Any media entities wishing to film the training sessions of any of our men’s teams must submit an official request to the club for prior approval.

“Be advised that the club will not hesitate to explore all available legal avenues against any individuals or media entities found in violation of this directive.

“As part of our media engagement strategy, we will host an official MEDIA OPEN DAY before the commencement of the 2024/2025 football season and periodically throughout the season. These sessions are designed to provide our esteemed media partners with the necessary access and information.

“Asante Kotoko SC remains committed to maintaining a respectful and cooperative relationship with the media, and we will continue to work closely with you to ensure mutual respect and collaboration.”

OFFICIAL: Samuel Tenedu joins Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko has announced the signing of Samuel Tenedu, a talented defensive midfielder from Legon Cities, on a three-year deal.

The 21-year-old successfully completed his medical in Kumasi earlier this week and will be joining the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

The Reds reached an agreement with Legon Cities on Tuesday evening to secure the signing of Tenadu. The transfer fee agreed upon is GHS180,000, with Legon Cities set to receive 35% of any future transfer fee and Kotoko getting 65%.

Samuel Tenedu, who hails from Obuasi, spent his early years in football with Ebony FC in Kumasi. Last season, he made 30 appearances for Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League, winning multiple man of the match awards. 

Speaking on the new signing, Asante Kotoko’s head coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, expressed his excitement about Tenedu’s addition to the team. “Samuel is a fantastic young talent with immense potential. His defensive abilities and vision on the field will be a great asset to our squad. We believe he will play a crucial role for us this season,” Dr. Ogum stated.

Samuel Tenedu also shared his enthusiasm about joining Asante Kotoko. “I am thrilled to sign with the biggest club in Ghana. Having spent a lot of time in Kumasi during my early football years, this feels like coming home. I am eager to get going,” Tenedu said.

Tenadu becomes Kotoko’s 11th signing in the ongoing transfer window, as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

Ghanaian teenager Opoku-Mensah dies in Germany

Ghanaian teenager Newton Opoku-Mensah, who played for the German club Fortuna Düsseldorf, has tragically passed away, as confirmed by both the club and his family.

The unfortunate incident occurred in Duisburg, Germany, where Opoku, an U17 player, drowned in a lake. Despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment on Tuesday evening, he sadly did not survive.

“Newton crashed while swimming in a Duisburg lake on Tuesday evening and later died in hospital as a result of the accident,” a club statement read.

“The whole club is shocked and in deep sorrow. The training and game operations of all youth teams from U9 to U19 will be suspended until further notice. The sympathy of the entire Fortuna family goes out to the relatives, the entire U17 team and the staff at the youth performance center.”

Former Kotoko CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah in stable condition after suffering from food poisoning

Former Asante Kotoko CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah, is recovering and in stable condition following a poisoning incident.

It was reported that Amponsah encountered this ordeal while attending a friend’s party in Tarkwa over the weekend.

Dela Fishbone, a presenter from Wontumi Sports, shared on Wontumi TV that Amponsah was scheduled to travel abroad for business on Wednesday, but his health condition has caused a delay.

Fishbone mentioned that Amponsah has not revealed the specific health facility where he is being treated.

Currently, no suspects have been identified in the poisoning case, and attempts to get more information from Amponsah’s associates have been unsuccessful.

Amponsah served as CEO of Asante Kotoko from August 2020 to August 2023, during which the club won its 24th league title in the 2021/22 season.

In January 2024, he assumed a similar role with Moldovan club FC Petrocub Hincesti but left after six months in July 2024.

Emmanuel Ankra joins Nsoatreman FC ahead of 2024/25 season

Nsoatreman FC have secured the services of defender Emmanuel Ankra ahead of the upcoming campaign

The 19-year-old penned down a three-year deal to join the 2024 FA Cup winners from relegated Tano Bofoakwa.

“We have agreed on a 3-year deal with a very young, talented and promising center back, Emmanuel Ankrah. He’s a perfect fit for the project of the club, where we look to develop young players like him for top-level football. Welcome to Amanaso, Ankrah!,” wrote the club, confirming his arrival.

Ankrah impressed many with his performances, attracting interest from Ghanaian top-flight.

Prosper Narteh Ogum returns to Kotoko training after full recovery

Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, will return to the club’s Adako Jachie training ground this week following his recovery from a successful surgery five weeks ago, a club statement said.

During his absence, Assistant Coach David Dickson Ocloo assumed managerial responsibilities, leading the technical team to a 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup.

The squad assembled on Monday, July 29, 2024 to begin pre-season preparations for the upcoming season.

The club has beefed up their squad with 10 new signings as they thrive to improve their position on the League log after placing 6th in the 2023/24 season.

The return of the Head Coach is a significant boost to the club as new players integrate and adapt to Dr. Ogum’s comprehensive football philosophy.

Kotoko will commence their 2024/2025 league campaign with an away match in Tamale, where they will face Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

The Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start on September 6.

Asante Kotoko has handed former Real Valladolid youth player Victor Asamoah a one-week trial.

The 24-year-old Ghanaian forward, recommended by club legend Sarfo Gyamfi, has the chance to demonstrate his abilities and potential fit for the team’s goals and the coach’s plan for the new season.

Asamoah, who played alongside Mohammed Salisu in the African Talent group before Salisu moved to Spain in 2018, will be assessed by the weekend to determine if he will be signed.

Following a sixth-place finish last season, Asante Kotoko is looking to rebuild their squad by exploring new talent for the upcoming season.

Asamoah has already started training with the team at the Adako Jachie Training Ground, where they began pre-season preparations after winning the Democracy Cup against Hearts of Oak.
