Ghanaian players to have joined new clubs in the just ended transfer window

As the European transfer window closed yesterday, we bring you Black Stars players who have changed clubs ahead of the 2022 season as well as the World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

Coach Otto Addo’s criteria in selecting players for the World Cup tournament will largely depend on players who are playing competitively for their respective clubs, week in and week out. Some players have moved in search of more regular playing time in order to make the squad.

Below is a list of Black Stars players to have joined new clubs in the just-ended summer transfer window in Europe:

Felix Afena-Gyan- Cremonense

Felix Afena-Gyan has joined US Cremonese on a permanent deal from AS Roma in the just-ended transfer window.

The 19-year-old signed a five-year deal with the Serie A newcomers.  Cremonese reportedly paid €6 million in salary and bonuses, with the Roma receiving an additional 10% of future sales.

Afena-Gyan joined the club in search of regular playing time ahead of the 2022 World Cup. He was part of the Ghana squad that qualify for the World Cup after eliminating Nigeria in the playoff.

Gideon Mensah- Auxerre

Gideon Mensah has signed a three-year contract with French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre.

The defender makes a return to France after spending the 2021/22 season with Bordeaux.

Mensah joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2017 and has since had loan spells at Sturm Graz, Zulte Waregem, Vitória Sport Clube, and Bordeaux.

  • Stephan Ambrosius- Karlsruher

Stephan Ambrosius was among the new players to have naturalized to play for Ghana ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

 Ambrosius has joined German Bundesliga II side Karlsruher from Hamburg on a season-long loan from Hamburg SV.

 “I am very happy to be here in Karlsruhe. I want to help the team with my positive nature, I will give my all for them and I’m looking forward to being on the pitch with the lads soon,” said Ambrosius after sealing the move.

Ambrosius has struggled with game time since he returned from injury and will be hoping to get back to action with the 2022 World Cup looming.

  • Richmond Boakye Yiadom- Lamia FC (Greece)

Richmond Boakye Yiadom has signed for Greek side PAE Lamia on a free transfer for the new season.

“PAE Lamia is pleased to announce the start of its partnership with 29-year-old international, Ghanaian striker, Richmond Boakye,” the club announced on Tuesday.

“The experienced Ghanaian has previously played for Genoa in Italy, Sassuolo, Atalanta, Juventus, Latina Calcio, Elche in Spain, Ronda in the Netherlands, Red Star in Serbia, Jiangsu Suning in China, Gornik Zabrze in Poland, while last year he played in Israel with Beitar Jerusalem.”

“We welcome him and wish him health and many successes with our team!!”

Boakye stated on the team’s official website after signing his contract: “I am very happy to be in the Lamia team. It is a special challenge for my career and I hope we can all achieve our goals together.”

  • Osman Bukari- Red Star Belgrade (Serbia)

Osman Bukari joined Serbian top flight side, Red Star Belgrade from KAA Gent this transfer window.

Osman spent last season on loan with French Ligue 1 side, FC Nantes, notching two goals and registering four assists in 26 matches in all competitions.

He is currently Ghana’s in form player in Europe with four goals in six appearances for his new club.

  • Daniel Kofi Kyereh- Freiburg (Germany)

SC Freiburg signed Ghana international Daniel-Kofi Kyereh from FC St. Pauli this summer.

The 26-year-old Ghana international, who scored 12 goals last season and chipped in 10 assists.

“SC Freiburg have added a signing in the form of Daniel-Kofi Kyereh,” Freiburg confirmed on their official website. “The 26-year-old joins from FC St. Pauli and will start training in the coming week.

“Daniel-Kofi Kyereh was, with 12 goals and 10 assists, one of the most effective attacking midfielders in the Bundesliga 2 last season. For the Millerntor club and, before joining them, SV Wehen Wiesbaden, he has scored and set up 27 goals each in 91 second-division appearances

  • Baba Rahman-  Reading (England)

Reading have confirmed the loan signing of Ghana international defender Baba Rahman for the remainder of the season.

The Chelsea player has returned to Reading on loan for the second consecutive season after spending last season there.

“We are delighted to announce that Baba Rahman has sealed a return to Reading Football Club for a second season-long loan spell in blue and white hoops,” Reading announced.

Benjamin Tetteh- Hull City

Ghana striker Benjamin Tetteh positive despite Hull City heavy defeat at West Brom

Tetteh signed a two-year contract with Tigers with an option for an extra year.

Edmund Addo – Red Star Belgrade

Sheriff ace Addo opens up on Real Madrid upset and Vinicius Jr penalty in Champions League | Goal.com US

Addo signed a four-year deal with the Serbian champions after deciding to leave Sheriff Tiraspol.

With the Ghanaian being a key player for the club during the 2021/22 season, Sheriff rejected an approach from Red Star during the winter window as they were competing in the UEFA Europa League.

Addo featured 33 times for Sheriff last season across all competitions and scored once.

The midfielder joins Black Stars teammate Osman Bukari at the club in Serbia.

Mubarak Wakaso – KAS Eupen

Belgian side KAS Eupen confirm signing Mubarak Wakaso on loan

The midfielder joins from Chinese Club Shenzhen fc.

The 32-year-old will be joining Ghanaian compatriots Isaac Nuhu and Nurudeen Abdul Manaf at the Club.

Chelsea have signed forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a £10.3m deal from Barcelona with defender Marcos Alonso expected to go the other way.

The Blues are also close to completing a loan deal for Juventus midfielder Denis Zakaria.

The 25-year-old Swiss international would boost Chelsea’s midfield options.

Gabon international Aubameyang scored 13 goals in 24 appearances for Barca after joining the Spanish club in February from Arsenal.

The 33-year-old had a buyout clause of 100m euros (£83.4m) in his contract, but has only played eight minutes this season.

Aubameyang scored 92 goals in 163 games in all competitions for Arsenal, but left on a free transfer after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta.

That departure played a big part in the Gunners documentary All or Nothing.

Only four players have scored more Premier League goals than Aubameyang’s total of 68 in the period since 31 January 2018 – the date he joined Arsenal.

Aubameyang worked with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund between 2015 and 2017.

He scored 79 goals in 95 games under the German, 38 more than he netted under any other manager.

This summer the Blues have brought in French defender Wesley Fofana for a fee in the region of £70m, England forward Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for £50m, Senegal defender Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli for £34m, English midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa for £20m, Spain left-back Marc Cucurella from Brighton for £60m and Italian midfielder Cesare Casadei from Inter Milan.

The deal for Aubameyang means Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly has spent almost £250m in his first transfer window since buying the club from Roman Abramovich.

Ghana’s Edmund Addo joins Red Star Belgrade

Black Stars midfielder, Edmund Addo, has completed his move to Red Star Belgrade, according to Joy Sports.

Addo has signed a four-year deal with the Serbian champions after deciding to leave Sheriff Tiraspol.

With the Ghanaian being a key player for the club during the 2021/22 season, Sheriff rejected an approach from Red Star during the winter window as they were competing in the UEFA Europa League.

According to Richard Gyasi, who is the PRO of Arthur Legacy Sports, the 22-year-old completed his move ahead of the transfer on Wednesday, August 31, with the transfer deadline approaching.

Addo featured 33 times for Red Star last season across all competitions and scored once.

The midfielder joins Black Stars teammate Osman Bukari at the club in Serbia.

Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah joins Colchester United

Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah has joined Colchester United on loan from fellow English League 2 club Crawley Town.

The agreement was finalized on Thursday, September 1, the last day of the summer transfer window.

Appiah signed a contract extension with Crawley Town in April of this year, keeping him at the club until June 2024.

The 32-year-old has made five appearances for Crawley this season, having finished as the 2021/22 top goalscorer.

Speaking on Kwesi’s loan move, Crawley coach Kevin Betsy said: “Kwesi is an outstanding professional, and we have loved working with him, but we could not guarantee him the match minutes his quality deserves. He will be missed by us all at the club, and wish him well with Colchester.”

Ahead of his departure, Kwesi said: “Thank you to everyone who welcomed me as part of the Crawley town family. The endless support from has been touching. There are so many special people who make the club what it is. I will see you all soon. Best of luck for the season.”

Colchester said Appiah will be available for Saturday’s game against Hartlepool at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin joins La Liga side Rayo Vellacano

Ghana defender Abdul Mumin Sulemana has completed his move to Spanish club Rayo Vellacano. 

The 24-year-old signed a four-year deal to join the La Liga outfit from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.

“Abdul Mumin is officially a new Rayo Vallecano player for the 2022-23 season . He arrives from Vitória Guimarães SC. Agreement for four seasons.

Welcome!,” wrote the club as they announced the arrival of the centre-back.

Abdul Mumin moved to Portugal in 2020 from Danish topflight side FC Nordsjaelland, going on to make over 60 appearances for Vitoria Guimaraes.

The Right to Dream Academy graduate was linked with Bournemouth in the summer transfer window, but the sacking of Scott Parker meant the deal could not go through.

Abdul Mumin was part of the Black Stars team at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon earlier this year.

He also made the team for the World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria but he is yet to make his debut for Ghana.

Manchester United are unbeaten in 119 Premier League games when leading at half time since losing 5-3 at Leicester in September 2014

Manchester United reeled off their third successive Premier League win under new manager Erik ten Hag to ensure Leicester City’s troubled start to the season continued at King Power Stadium.

Jadon Sancho’s smooth finish from Marcus Rashford’s pass after 23 minutes maintained United’s recent revival and allowed them to build on victories at home to Liverpool and away to Southampton.

United remained largely in control against an out of sorts Leicester, who are still searching for their first league win of the season and who, along with manager Brendan Rodgers, felt the impatience of the home fans.

Visiting keeper David de Gea was forced into a fine save from James Maddison’s free-kick in the second half but otherwise United were rarely troubled, with Casemiro emerging as a substitute and Cristiano Ronaldo, another late replacement, coming close with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

WAFA withdraw from all Ghana FA organised competitions

West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) have withdrawn from all Ghana FA-organised competitions for the 2022-23 season.

The academy boys have pulled the plugs on their involvement in the zonal Division One League following a directive to relocate the relegated team to Gomoa Fetteh.

WAFA, which qualified to the elite division as a Zone two team, have been playing their home matches in Sogakope – current location for zone Three teams in the country’s second-tier.

Officials of the club have been pushing to maintain their Sogakpoe base for home matches in the Division One but that has been rejected outrightly by the governing body.

With most of their juvenile players in school, the club believe relocating to Gomoa Fetteh will be counter-productive.

Ghana’s leading football website, GHANAsoccernet.com can report that WAFA have officially notified the football association over the decision to pull out of the league this season.

It’s unclear what the ramifications are at the moment but the club is adamant and insist it won’t play their matches in the Central region.

Multiple sources are telling GHANAsoccernet.com that owners are considering retaining the club as solely as an academy.

WAFA got relegated last season after six years in the Ghanaian top-flight.

Hearts Of Oak to play Bibiani GoldStars in a pre-season friendly; check the details

Hearts of Oak will play Ghanaian top-tier Bibiani GoldStars in a pre-season friendly on Sunday.

The friendly encounter which is scheduled for Sunday 4th September, 2022 will be played at the Paa Joe Park at KNUST in Kumasi.

The game will kickoff 3pm.

The Phobians who are in Kumasi for their second phase of the preseason have played lower division side Future FC at their training grounds, winning 4-0.

Hearts of Oak will begin their Betpawa GPL campaign with a trip to Dormaa Ahenkro to battle it out with Aduana Stars in the match-day one of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.

Hearts of Oak who represents Ghana in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup competition are expected to play either AS Douanes (Burkina Faso) and ASR Bamako (Mali) in the second preliminary round.
