Kickoff is 6pm.

‘We want Black Stars to have controversy-free World Cup’ – Sports Minister

Ghana’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has stated that his outfit has learnt lessons from past World Cup campaigns and will use those lessons as a guide to ensure Ghana returns from the World Cup without controversy.

He said this in his speech at the National Team Day Walk with the Legends event held to rally support for the Black Stars upcoming campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana was embroiled in a series of controversies in its last campaign at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Mr. Ussif headlined a high-powered delegation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) that walked from Ayi Mensah to Aburi Hill Top on Saturday.

“We are doing everything that is possible to make our campaign and the journey to the World Cup successful. We have learnt from our mistakes and we don’t want this Qatar [trip] to be anything bad. We want to ensure that we go to Doha and come back home successfully, without any problem” he said.

Mustapha Ussif also heaped praise on Black Stars legends for their continuous support to the team.

In his speech, Mr. Ussif thanked legends from AFCON (African Cup of Nations) trophy-winning teams including Rev. Osei Kofi, Ibrahim Sunday and James Kuuku Dadzie.

“I want to thank our legends for coming out in your numbers to galvanize support the entire country to support your brothers and, for some of you, your children, as we embark on this campaign to the World Cup. We are so proud of you legends for your commitment, dedication, hard work and sacrifice for our country in the past and you are still doing so by coming out in your numbers,” he said.

Head coach of Ghana’s U-23, Ibrahim Tanko says he will gladly recommend Hearts of Oak forward, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Kotoko goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim for the World Cup.

Tanko who guided the Black Meteors to the final round of the AFCON U-23 qualifiers over Mozambique says the two players have the qualities to be part of Otto Addo’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad.

“The coaches are watching, I’m sure they will have a tape for this game as well.

“I mean Afriyie, Danlad it’s obvious everyone is talking about them and they have the quality.

“In terms of on the pitch and on the pitch, they are our captains and when you see how they are handling the boys you will know that these are the leaders.

“Definitely Otto Addo is my friend, we spoke a lot and if he asks me for these two guys definitely I will say yes.” Ibrahim Tanko said after Ghana’s win over Mozambique.

Hearts of Oak exhibited a sumptuous fightback to grind first season victory of the season after humbling Bibiani Goldstars by 2-1 last Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium in week 4 of the Ghana Premier League.

Prince Owusu Kwabena’s early first half lead was subsequently wiped off by Isaac Mensah’s 76th minute equalizer before experience Gladson Awako scored a spectacular free kick in the dying embers to snatch all three points.

‘Hearts of Oak players are the highest-paid players in Ghana’ – Vincent Odotei

A Board Member of Accra Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has dismissed assertions that Hearts of Oak underpays players of the club.

He claims the Phobians are the best-paying club in Ghana.

Experts say Ghanaian footballers who ply their trade on the local scene are underpaid which contributes to the regular player exodus, a trend that affects the performance of Ghanaian clubs in Africa inter-club competitions.

The welfare of local-based players has been a concern to many football enthusiasts in Ghana, but according to Hearts of Oak Board Member, Vincent Sowah Odotei, players of the Club are the best paid in the country.

He believes the club now operates with modern structures of football administration and this will make them very competitive both in Ghana and Africa.

Speaking on LUV FM’s Sports Show dubbed Kick Off, the former Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon stressed, the facts available in Ghana confirm his claim that Hearts of Oak is the best paying top flight side.

He wants supporters who clamour for his exit to come to November’s AGM to witness the investment the Togbe Afede-led administration has made at Hearts of Oak.

“People who are clamouring, if they have shares, they should come to the AGM and then put their cash on the table.

“We have nothing to hide, they will see how much money is being pumped into the club every month.

“Hearts of Oak players are the highest-paid players in Ghana, I am telling you a fact. You can go back and cross-check the state of Hearts of Oak.

“If I tell you the amount of money that goes into salaries every month in Hearts of Oak, I’m sure people who are shouting will keep quiet but a time will come when those things will be made public,” he said.

2022/23 DOL Day 5 Results & Standings: Bofoakwa halts Young Apostles’ perfect start, Nations FC pick away win as Liberty drops points, Arsenal & Tema Youth still winless

The match-day five of the 2022/23 Access Division One League brought us enthralling results across the various zones and match centers.

In Zone One A and B, Baffuor Soccer Academy demolished Unity FC 5-1 on Matchday 5 in Zone One of the Access Bank Division One League to bounce back from their recent defeat to Young Apostles. Emmanuel Adomah Boateng and Prince Ntori both scored a brace in between Bernard Boateng’s 22nd minute strike as Emmanuel Yeboah fetched the consolation for the visitors inside 64 minutes.

Adomah scored the first goal in the 17th minute, Boateng increased the tally 5 minutes later to the set the tone for a demolition.

Back from recess Emmanuel Adomah got his second of the day in the 50th minute as Prince Ntori smashed home two quick goals in the closing stages (88th, 90th) to complete the rout.

Baffuor Soccer Academy have now recorded three wins in the competition while Unity FC languish at the bottom of the table without a point – with fourteen goals conceded in five games.

In the Sunyani derby – Young Apostles tasted their first defeat of the season after losing to Bofoakwa Tano at the Coronation Park.

Solomon Oblitey’s goal was all Bofoakwa needed to walk away with the points and to maintain their unbeaten run. Bofoakwa Tano have kept five consecutive clean sheets in Zone One.

Strugglers Berekum Arsenal continued their winless spree as they lost their fifth game of the season against B.A United at the Golden City Park. Aaron Yinpoya delivered a sublime shot from the edge of the box to hand B.A United a valuable win on the road.

In Zone Two, Nzema Kotoko recorded an impressive 2-0 win against WAFA SC on Matchday five of the Access Bank Division One League. David Cobbinah was the hero of the day for the home side as he scored two second half goals to hand Kotoko a sumptuous home win to end the winning run of WAFA.

Both sides displayed an exhilarating football in the first half with WAFA seeking to extend their unbeaten run following their sudden turn around in the Zone in the last couple of matches. As the first half failed to produce goals Nzema Kotoko opened the scoring 13 minutes after the break through David Cobbinah.

The attacker again found the back of the net in the 67th minute as Kotoko doubled their advantage. Chances were far and few then after, as Kotoko held on to win the encounter 2-0 at the Ampain AAK II Arena.

Nzema Kotoko have now won twice and drawn twice with one defeat in their last five games in the league. WAFA SC on the other hand have won twice and also lost twice with one draw in between as they sit in 8th place with 7 points.

Elsewhere – Elmina Sharks beat Asokwa Deportivo 2-0 at the Nduom stadium to increase their winning form to two wins on the spin having gone three games without a win prior to their triumph over Asokwa Deportivo. Deportivo on the other hand have now played five games and are yet to record a single win with four defeats and one draw registered this far in the Access Bank Division One League.

Asekem FC moved to the top of the Zone two table following a 2-0 win over Swedru All Blacks at home to maintain their unbeaten record after week five round of matches – even though they have drawn three out of the five games. Asekem FC now occupies the top spot with 9 points while Swedru All Blacks find themselves in the middle of the table after amassing 7 points from a possible 15. The Swedru side have yet to win on the road in the ongoing campaign.

In Zone Three, Volta Rangers have dropped five points in their last two games after they were held 0-0 by Attram De Visser on Matchday five of the Access Bank Division One League. Rangers were stopped in their tracks by leaders Heart of Lions on Matchday four after having a blistering start to the season.

Attram de Visser are unbeaten in their last five games scoring five goals and conceding two in the League as they have moved to the second spot in the log with 9 points – one adrift of leaders Heart of Lions who play on Monday.
In another news – Tudu Mighty Jets were held 1-1 by Liberty Professionals at the Tema Park to continue their winless run in the Division One League.

Liberty on the other hand have drawn their last four games with their last win dating back to Matchday one when they beat Golden Kicks 2-1 in an away duel.
Newbies, Na God FC shocked their city rivals Golden Kick SC at the Tema Park to record a second consecutive win in the League.

Golden Kicks took the lead in the 4th minute through Dacosta Owusu but Brefo Owusu pulled parity for Na God FC in the 41st minute as the first half ended 1-1.

Emmanuel Tackie scored the winning goal three minutes from time to hand Na God FC a vital away win.
The pick of the pack is the match between Leaders Heart of Lions and Koforidua Samper FI who were in second place before the weekend games. This fixture will take place at the El wak Sports stadium on Monday.

Ghana forward Inaki Williams has scored his fifth goal of the season for his side Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish La Liga.

Williams netted against Villarreal on Sunday evening from close range.

His strike gave Bilbao a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute.

He is likely to beat his personal record of 13 goals in a complete season.

2022/23 GPL: Bechem United beat Kotoku Royals to claim first win of the season

Bechem United secured their very first win of the 2022-23 season after narrowly beating newly-promoted Kotoku Royals FC 1-0 in the Ghana Premier League.

Having lost their previous two league matches to Great Olympics and to Bibiani Goldstars, Bechem needed a positive reaction against Royals.

The Hunters earned the 1-0 victory over the Akyem Royals at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park on Sunday afternoon.

Kassim Mingle Ocansey named a very solid starting lineup despite the absence of Samuel Osei Kuffour and Aaron Essel and Clinton Duodu who are with the Ghana U23 team.

Ocansey handed a full debut to Cephas Kofi Mantey who had an impressive pre-season with the team when he scored four goals in the GHALCA G6 tournament.

Cameroonian midfielder Gabriel Yapy Tenlep was brought on to make his first bow for Bechem when he replaced Abdul Latif Anabila.

The first half was dominated by Bechem as they got majority of the ball possession and also had a very decent scoring opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net.

The Hunters were more transformed in the second half and had their dominance pay off in the 52nd minute when Mantey netted his first goal of the campaign.

Mantey’s second half goal was the difference of the matchday four fixture as the Hunters earned their first points of the season.
