Ghana’s World Cup Group opponent, Uruguay, have named their final 26-man squad for the upcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Barcelona centre-back, Ronald Araujo, who was said to be a major doubt for the tournament due to an adductor longus avulsion injury in his right thigh, made the list, which was released on Thursday, November 10, 2022.

Some key names like Luis Suarez, Edison Cavani, Darwin Nunez, and in-form Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde were all named in the big squad.

Uruguay has now become the first team in Group H to release their final squad list for the tournament.

Ghana, Portugal, and South Korea are also expected to follow suit in the coming days.

Leicester midfielder James Maddison has been included in England’s 26-man squad for the Fifa World Cup in Qatar.

Manager Gareth Southgate has also picked Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker and Arsenal defender Ben White.

But AC Milan centre-back Fikayo Tomori, Brentford striker Ivan Toney and West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen miss out.

Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has named his final 2022 FIFA World Cup squad with Chelsea playmaker Hakim Ziyech included.

The 29-year-old ended his self-imposed exile from the national team after Regragui was appointed as Vahid Halilhodžić’s successor – with whom he had a major fallout last year.

Having been roped into the national team after winning the CAF Champions League and Botola Pro with Wydad Atheltic Club, Regragui has galvanised the spirit of the Atlas Lions who enter the competition as one of the real hopes of Africa alongside Senegal to progress past the group stages.

At the previous showpiece, Russia 2018, no African nation qualified for the knockout stages – but the likes of Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi. Sofyan Amrabat, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Ziyech forming the spine of the squad – there’s optimism that they could compete alongside a fearsome Group F that features Croatia, Belgium, and Canada.

However, there was a big talking after Munir El Haddadi of Getafe was not selected, despite fighting for years to switch his international allegiance from Spain to Morocco.

The North Africans open their campaign against the 2018 runners-up on Croatia Wednesday, 23 November at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, with Belgium and Canada the other teams in their Group F.

Romelu Lukaku has been included in Roberto Martinez’s 26-man World Cup squad, although question marks remain over his fitness for the tournament.

The striker, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan from Chelsea, has had an injury-hit start to the season. Lukaku has been suffering with a hamstring injury which, coupled with a thigh problem earlier this season, means he has played just twice since August for the Serie A side.

Eden Hazard has also been included, despite being mostly on the sidelines at Real Madrid this season and he has not played in La Liga since September having fallen out of favour with coach Carlo Ancelotti.

However, he is a talismanic figure for Belgium and Martinez has set aside concerns with his match fitness and form.

The participating teams for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will start arriving tomorrow, with the US National Team being the first team to arrive at its base camp in Marsa Malaz Kempinski at The Pearl.

Germany boss Hansi Flick has included Borussia Dortmund’s 17-year-old strike sensation Youssoufa Moukoko in their World Cup squad.

However, there is no place in the squad for veteran defender Mats Hummels, Dortmund captain Marco Reus nor fit-again Bayer Leverkusen starlet Florian Wirtz after his recovery from a serious knee injury.

Cameroon-born Moukoko is the surprise inclusion, the prodigious-talented teen – who doesn’t turn 18 for another two weeks – being called up by Die Mannschaft for the first time. He has scored six times in five Under-21 internationals, has six goals in 13 Bundesliga games thus far this term and no player in league history has reached 10 league goals at a younger age.

Moukoko is the direct beneficiary of Timo Werner’s injury, with the ex-Chelsea man having been ruled out of the competition. BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl praised the “improvement of his total package” following a two-goal haul in the weekend win over Bochum.

Hummels, part of the 2014 World Cup-winning squad, has been left out, while his centre-back teammate at Dortmund, Nico Schlotterbeck has been included. Southampton’s young defender Armel Bella-Kotchap also is in.

There is also a place for Mario Götze in the squad, following his return to form with Eintracht Frankfurt this term. Götze scored the winner in 2014, as Germany beat Argentina in the final in Brazil.

There are seven players from German champions Bayern Munich, including Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and former England youth prospect Jamal Musiala, while Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and Chelsea’s Kai Havertz have also been named.

Cameroon left out long-serving centre back Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui from their squad for the World Cup in a shock omission as coach Rigobert Song named his 26-man selection for Qatar on Wednesday.

The coach also surprisingly included two home-based players — Souaibou Marou and Jerome Ngom — who had won their first caps just hours before in a friendly against Jamaica.

The team will be captained by Vincent Aboubakar, who competed as a teenager at the 2010 World Cup and again in Brazil in 2014 when the Indomitable Lions last appeared at the finals.

It will also be a third World Cup for defender Nicolas Nkoulou, 32, and Bayern Munich attacker Eric-Maxime Choupo Moting, who is 33-years-old.

Nkoulou made a comeback to the team in September after a five-year absence, having retired from the side after they won the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ngadeu was also a member of that team but had remained a regular for Cameroon since. He was omitted for the last round of friendly matches two months ago and left out again for the trip to Qatar.

Song gave no explanation for the axing of the 31-year-old Belgian-based centre back at a hastily arranged news conference on Wednesday, where reporters were given short notice of the intention to name the squad.

Song also included teenage goalkeeper Simon Ngapandouetnbu, who is on the books of Olympique de Marseille but yet to play a senior match. He is the only uncapped player in the squad.

Cameroon will play in an eighth World Cup — a record number of appearances for an African nation — and take on Switzerland, Serbia and Brazil in Group G, with their first game on Nov. 24.
