Ex-Ghana striker Kwesi Appiah graduates from UK university
Former Black Stars striker Kwesi Appiah has graduated from Staffordshire University in the United Kingdom, where he studied Sports Journalism.
Appiah shared his success story on Twitter, and he was clearly overjoyed with his latest achievement.
Appiah, who is still active in football, successfully combined playing with education.
“A monumental day for my family and I,” Appiah wrote on Twitter.
The 32-year-old is currently on loan at Colchester United from Crawley Town. He previously played for Crystal Palace in the Premier League, as well as Peterborough United FC, Reading FC, AFC Wimbledon, and India’s NorthEast United.
Appiah, who was born in England, committed to Ghana and was a member of the squad that reached the Africa Cup of Nations final in Equatorial Guinea in 2015.
He made his debut in Ghana’s 2-1 win over South Africa on 27 January 2015 and scored his first goal in the quarter-final victory over Guinea. Appiah was adjudged Fair Player of the Tournament.

Pre-World Cup Friendly: Ghana vs Switzerland, preview, team news, predicted lineups & TV coverage
Ghana face Switzerland in final preparations game on Thursday morning ahead of Qatar 2022 World Cup- which begins this Sunday.
Ghana missed out on Russian 2018 and will be hoping to make a huge impact in Qatar but face the prospect of a tough group with South Korea, Uruguay and Portugal racing against Black Stars’ knockout chances.
Ahead of the World Cup, Ghana have engaged in some tricky friendlies with the notable one against one of Qatar’s World Cup favourites Brazil as the Black Stars were beaten 3-0, thanks to Marquinhos’ opener and Richarlison double before defeating Nicaragua 1-0 following Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s first half strike in September friendlies.
Ghana will be handed the best opportunity to test themselves ahead of World Cup opening game against Portugal when they host Switzerland on Thursday at Al-Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Ghana have been placed in Group H along with two former World Cup opponents Uruguay in South Africa 2010 and Portugal in Brazil 2014.
When Ghana were playing Brazil and Nicaragua in September, Switzerland handed double victories against Spain and Czech Republic, in a 2-1 score line each. Switzerland have lost their manager of seven years, Vladimir Petkovic, for new coach Murat Yakin, a former international player who has only been in charge for little over a year.
The Swiss are taking on Brazil, Cameroon and Serbia in Group G with tomorrow’s game against Ghana the one Switzerland hoping to draw on experience when they face African giants Cameroon in their first game of the group.
Switzerland finished World Cup qualification two points clear of Italy to book their spot in Qatar, reaching their 12th World Cup since their debut in 1934, four years after the tournament was founded.
Switzerland have reached the quarter-finals three times, but not since 1954 when a home crowd pulled them through.
The last four editions saw the team knocked out in the Round of 16 three times, and the group stage once.
The European side will be hoping to extend their 3-game winning streak against Ghana but that will not come easy. The African giants have been boosted with foreign nationals of Ghanaian descents with Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams who could have featured for England and Spain switching camp for the Black Stars of Ghana.
Ghana should also be prepared for the threats of Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka, former Liverpool man Xherdan Shaqiri, Manchester City’s Manuel Akanji and Chelsea’s Denis Zakaria in tomorrow’s crunchy encounter.
Ghana have featured 3 times in the World Cup dating back in 2006 when the Black Stars qualified for the global tournament the first time in their history and reached the round of 16 following defeat to Brazil.
Ghana’s best record so far was in South Africa 2010 after reaching quarter-finals before been crushed out by Uruguay. Ghana failed to qualify from the group phase in Brazil 2014 despite forcing eventual tournament winners Germany to a 2-2 draw while at a point Germany needed to come from behind to share the spoils.

Ghana boss Otto Addo named Black Stars 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup on Monday. The list consisted traditional names Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Thomas Partey, Baba Rahman, Daniel Amartey, Joseph Aidoo.
Ghana touched down in Qatar’s capital Abu Dhabi on Tuesday as they prepare to face Switzerland on Thursday. There was a major setback after first choice goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott missed out on the squad due to finger injury but the Charlton Athletic shot-stopper could join his teammates in Qatar when he complete a successful surgery.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka and former Liverpool attacker Xherdan Shaqiri have been included in Switzerland’s World Cup squad.
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji and Newcastle United centre back Fabian Schar have also made the cut.
On loan Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria and Nottingham Forest’s Remo Freuler are also among those chosen for the squad by manager Murat Takin.
Ex-West Ham midfielder Edimilson Fernandes and former AC Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez are also on the flight to Qatar.
However, ex-Rangers striker Cedric Itten has been left out, despite having six goals and five assists this season for BSC Young Boys. Fulham defender Kevin Mbabu and veteran Steven Zuber were left out.

Xherdan Shaqiri, 31, is still going strong for US side Chicago Fire and harbours a stacked CV which includes the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. He has 108 caps and will be playing in his fourth World Cup.
All eyes will be on captain Granit Xhaka to see whether he can bring his excellent form at Arsenal to the tournament, but goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who has been capped 76 times for his country, may be a doubt after sustaining an ankle injury playing for Borussia Monchengladbach just over a month before the start of the tournament.

Federico Santiago Valverde Dipetta, born 22 July 1998 is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for La Liga club Real Madrid and the Uruguay national team.
He is a versatile player known for his pace, stamina, and work rate, he can also be deployed as a defensive midfielder, a right winger, and occasionally a right-back.
In July 2016 he was transferred from Peñarol to Real Madrid, being assigned to the B team.

MTN FA Cup R/64 draw: Asante Kotoko clash with Bechem Utd, Hearts of Oak draw Uncle T Utd as Karela Utd meet Medeama
The draw for the Round of 64 of the MTN FA Cup took place earlier today.
The draw provided us with some tasty fixtures. Hearts of Oak will begin their title defense with a daunting test against Division One side Uncle T United.
Asante Kotoko will host last season’s first runners Bechem United. The two teams faced off few weeks ago at the Nana Gyeabor, with Bechem United winning the game 2-0.
For the third consecutive time, Karela United will play Medeama in the MTN FA Cup. Tamale City will play rivals Steadfast, Legon Cities will play fellow Premier League Accra Lions and so.

Match Report: Bright Adjei nets brace as Aduana stun Chelsea in Bono derby
A spirited performance from Aduana Stars on Wednesday afternoon saw the team beat Berekum Chelsea 2-1 in the Ghana Premier League.
The Dormaa-based club today hosted the team from Berekum at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in a matchday seven encounter of the 2022/23 league season.
While both teams will play very well in the first half, the first goal of the contest did not come until the 43rd minute.
Experienced forward Bright Adjei scored with a fantastic effort to shoot Aduana Stars into a deserved lead.
Two minutes later, Berekum Chelsea created a very good chance which was converted by star forward Mezack Afriyie.
With all to play for in the second half, it was the hosts that secured the victory after recess.
Bright Adjei made good use of a chance in the 56th minute as he scored to not only complete his brace but to also restore the lead for his team.
Eventually, Aduana Stars secured a 2-1 win to bag the maximum three points at full time.
Match Report: Legon Cities hold defending champions Asante Kotoko in Kumasi
Legon Cities held Asante Kotoko to a pulsating 1-1 draw in their matchday seven encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Kotoko’s Ugandan import, Steven Mukwala fetched the first goal of the match in the 15th minute but their lead was cancelled in the 51st minute by Sadat Mohammed.
The Porcupines who defeated Medeama in Tarkwa last Thursday started on a brighter note, pinning the visitors to their own half but failed to make their early dominance count before Mukwala was fouled in the 18-yard box for the penalty.
As the game progressed, Legon Cities warmed themselves into the game and made some dangerous incursions into Kotoko’s vital area.
The two teams created few decent chances throughout the first half but went into recess with the Porcupines leading by a lone goal.
The visitors came back into the game strongly in the second half and as nimble-footed Jonah Attuquaye tormented the defence of Kotoko with so much ease.
The visitors’ efforts would pay off in the 51st minute when Sadat Mohammed scored the equaliser.
The rest of the became an end to end action as both sides searched for the winning goal which never came until the referee ended the match.
Match Report: King Faisal pip Karela United at Anyinase
Joseph Adu Dwomoh second half goal handed King Faisal victory over Karela United in matchday 7 of the Ghana Premier League.
Karela United hosted the Isha Allah boys at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park on Wednesday afternoon but unfortunately lost the clash.
The first half of the much-anticipated game ended in a pulsating goalless draw despite both teams creating some scoring opportunities.
After the break, the visitors shot into the lead through Joseph Adu Dwomoh in the 60th minute mark.
Prior to the clash, Karela United had recorded a 100 percent record home record, having defeated Tamale City, Dreams FC and Bechem United.
But defeat against King Faisal means the unbeaten home run has come to an end.
King Faisal who had a poor start to the 2022/23 campaign is having a season turn around after a back to back wins in the league.
They defeated Kotoku Royals 2-1 in matchday 6 last weekend.
Cobbinah Amissah and his King Faisal side have moved out of the relegation zone following the win against Karela United.
They currently sit 15th position with 6 points after 7 matches into the campaign.
The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League will now go on breaks for the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar.
Seydou Zerbo names Asante Kotoko starting line-up to face Legon Cities
Asante Kotoko head coach, Seydou Zerbo has named his men to battle Legon Cities on matchday 7 of the Ghana Premier League this afternoon.
Frederick Asare replaces Danlad Ibrahim – who is in the Black Stars camp preparing for the world Cup.
Georges Mfegue has also picked ahead of Afoakwa who started for the Reds in their last game.
Kickoff is 3pm.

World Cup: Ex-Ghana goalkeeper William Amamoo describes Black Stars’ goalkeeping department weak without Wollacott, Richard Ofori
Former Black Stars goalkeeper, William Amamoo ,has bemoaned that the goalkeeping department of the Black Stars is the weakest link in the team going into the mundial.
Coach Otto Addo officially announced his squad for the tournament with Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Jojo Wollacot and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori were excluded from the squad due to injuries and have been replaced by Saint Gallen goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad of local based side Asante Kotoko.
Sharing his thoughts on the goalkeeping situation in the Black Stars with few days to the World Cup, Williams Amamoo said,
“To me, the goalkeepers department is the weakest link in the team at this moment going into the World Cup.
“Looking at the Squad back in 2006 and previous editions of the World Cup we have played, this current goalkeeping department is the weakest”. He told Ohene Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports.
“I was not happy when I learnt both our first and second choice goalkeepers are injured.
“I have to be very honest, if you have a very good squad and your goalkeeping department is shaky, then there is a call for worry”. He added.
As part of their last preparation for the tournament, Ghana will play Switzerland on Thursday in Abu Dhabi before traveling to Doha to take part in the competition.
Among the teams assigned to Group H, Ghana has been drawn along with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.
The Black Stars will Portugal on November 24, before taking on South Korea three days time and a titanic clash against Uruguay in the final group game on December 2, 2022.
