Ashgold boss Thomas Duah explains why Hearts, Kotoko players don’t get national team invitations

In an interview with Akoma FM, Thomas Duah, the head coach of Ashanti Gold Sporting Club, shared his perspective on why players from Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak are not being called up to the Black Stars.

According to Duah, the root cause is that these two teams no longer have quality players due to poor recruitment.

He noted that most of their new signings are free agents who are not exceptional, unlike in the past when the two clubs were known for attracting the best local talent.

Duah also agreed that the low quality of players in these teams has affected their national team call-ups.

“The poor recruitment by Kotoko and Hearts has accounted for their abysmal performance in the league.

“Most of their new signings are free agents who are not exceptional in any way unlike what they used to do in times past,” Coach Thomas Duah said.

The Ashanti Gold SC coach added, “I agree with the assertion that these two teams lack quality. Their low quality has affected their call-ups into the national teams.

“Gone were the days when Kotoko and Hearts became the destination for most of the known quality players in the local scene, now the situation is entirely different.”

With Ghana set to compete in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers next month, it is uncertain whether coach Chris Hughton will give opportunities to players from the local league.

VIDEO: Spiritualist claims he masterminded Kotoko’s Premier League win last season, behind club’s poor form this season

Atta Agyemang, a self-proclaimed numerologist, has come forward to take credit for Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s victory in the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League.

According to Agyemang, he was approached by several Kotoko officials after the team suffered consecutive defeats to King Faisal. Although he initially had doubts, he eventually agreed to assist the club in turning their fortunes around.

“As the season was nearing its end, there was a division among the officials who sought my help, and some of them discredited my work,” Agyemang stated. “I warned them about their actions and advised them to express their gratitude towards me, or else they would face difficulties in the following season.”

Agyemang further claimed that the challenges faced by Asante Kotoko this season were a result of the curses he placed on the officials due to their lack of gratitude.

While Kotoko emerged as champions of the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League, Agyemang asserts that the club’s officials owe him appreciation for his contribution to their success.

“Last season, five Kotoko officials approached me, including Commander Adusei, Chairman K5, and a chairman who is my godfather,” Agyemang revealed. “From that point onward, I took charge of the team. I won seven consecutive matches because I know how to harness the power of the sun.”

Agyemang also mentioned that he had warned the Kotoko officials about the potential struggles they would face in the following season if they failed to acknowledge his contributions.

INTERCO: Kumasi High School, four other Schools banned for two years

0

Five Senior High Schools in Ashanti Region have been barred for the next two years from participating in any sporting events organised by the Ashanti Regional Schools and Colleges Federation after fielding athletes who were ineligible for the ongoing zonal championship of the Schools and Colleges Athletics Competition, more commonly known as “INTERCO.”

The five schools that have been banned are Gyinyase-based Kumasi High School and Bantama-based Adventist Senior High, Kumasi.

The others are Bonwire Secondary Technical, St. Joseph Seminary, Mampong and Our Lady Of Grace (OLAG)

In the case of Our Lady of Grace (OLAG), their girls can compete in the upcoming Super Zonal championship after placing third in their zone because the suspension only affects their boys.

Bodwesango SHS who finished 7th in the zone will replace OLAG boys in the Super Zonal scheduled for 25th and 26th May, 2023.

Samuel Otoo, the Chief supervisor for the competition told footy.ghpush.com/ that all the five schools have been banned for the next two years.

“It is true that some schools have been banned from participating in athletics for fielding unqualified students.  Our investigation revealed that these schools used old students who completed in 2019. A school like Kumasi High School used nine unqualified boys, and they went as far as picking students from the Central region, ” Samuel Otoo popularly known as Blowman told footy.ghpush.com/.

He indicated that the Federation Disciplinary Committee has reported the issue to the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, noting that the heads and sports masters involved will be invited by the hierarchy by Monday for punishment.

Otoo revealed that some of the punishment will be demotions, transfers, and suspensions.

“The issue has been referred to the Ashanti regional directorate and the heads and masters involved will be invited on Monday. They will be punished to deter others from doing same in the future. They could be transferred, demoted, or suspended. “

The Super Zonal is slated for May 25th to May 26th, 2023 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Arsenal’s Premier League title ambition in tatters after Brighton defeat

Arsenal’s hopes of winning the Premier League title were dealt a severe blow on Sunday as Brighton’s stunning 3-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium all but ended their chances, paving the way for Manchester City to potentially secure the championship next week.

Following City’s comfortable win over Everton earlier in the day, they will claim their fifth title in six seasons if Arsenal loses to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Any other result in that match will give City an opportunity to seal the trophy in front of their home fans against Chelsea the following Sunday.

With the stakes high, Arsenal faced Brighton in a match that carried immense importance for their title aspirations. However, they failed to rise to the occasion as Brighton responded emphatically following their recent humiliation at the hands of Everton.

In a heated encounter that simmered throughout, Julio Enciso struck the first blow for Brighton by nodding in Pervis Estupinan’s cross from close range after Jakub Kiwior went down when Evan Ferguson accidentally stepped on his boot, causing it to come off.

Kiwior’s decision to go down divided the opinions of the Sky Sports pundits. “A big strong center-half, really?” remarked an unimpressed Roy Keane, while Micah Richards insisted it was a foul committed by Ferguson.

Brighton continued to dominate the game, frustrating Arsenal, who saw Mikel Arteta booked for dissent. The Seagulls eventually delivered the knockout blow when Deniz Undav punished a loose pass from former Brighton forward Leandro Trossard by cleverly lobbing the ball over Aaron Ramsdale.

Estupinan then added a third goal, capitalizing on Ramsdale’s weak save by poking home the rebound, triggering jubilant celebrations both on the south coast and in Manchester.

While Arsenal was left dejected by the result, Brighton and their fans can now eagerly anticipate the possibility of securing European football, with an outside chance of qualifying for the Champions League, when they face Newcastle on Thursday, a match that will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

Although Nsoatreman FC took an early lead, they couldn’t maintain their advantage until the end of the game. King Faisal displayed a spirited performance, rallying from behind to secure a thrilling 3-2 victory.

With this triumph, King Faisal will now go head-to-head with Dreams FC in the finals of the MTN FA Cup.

Dreams Football Club secured their spot in the finals by defeating Skyy FC 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
