Inter Milan dominate city rivals AC Milan to reach UEFA Champions League final

Inter Milan secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) final for the first time since 2010 after defeating AC Milan 1-0 in the second leg of their historic semi-final clash, completing a 3-0 aggregate victory. On the eve of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals between Manchester City and Real Madrid, Pep Guardiola reiterated that he wasn’t brought to the club to win Europe’s elite competition.

Guardiola has been at the helm at Manchester City for the past seven years winning five Premier League titles.

However, his Man City side which has broken a number of domestic records are yet to win a Champions League trophy.

The Citizens came closest in 2021 when they narrowly lost the final to fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

For many years, the biggest critique Guardiola has faced is his inability to replicate his domestic on the continent.

“I said when I signed the contract seven years ago, they didn’t tell me to win the Champions League. All the people said the reason why they brought me here with my staff was to do the best possible,” Guardiola said in the press conference before the game against Real Madrid.

“But of course, we cannot deny we have won all the titles except this one. Of course, we want it. It is another opportunity from two seasons ago when we lost the final against Chelsea, against Madrid the season before. Of course, we want it with all the desire.”

Manchester City are not only after the Champions League this season. They are just one win away from a sixth Premier League title in seven years and also in the FA Cup final.

Guardiola admits it is a dream come true to be competing in different competitions so deep into the season.

“People say we are close enough, I think we are far away.

“It’s a dream come true to be here. Nobody in the future can guarantee we will be here. Nobody can assure us. So once we are there, let’s go. With our people, I am pretty sure will do it.”

Manchester City welcomes Real Madrid at the Etihad on Wednesday for the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals with the game tied at 1-1.

OFFICIAL: Third edition of Baby Jet U-16 African Championship to begin in June

The annual Baby Jet U16 African football tournament is slated for June 6, 2023 at the Cape Coast Sports stadium.

The 2023 edition, expected to witness 32 selected U16 teams from the African continent has been finally confirmed by organizers of the event.

The rescheduled football talent discovery platform was slated for the first quarter of 2023 but had to be moved to June after some organizational decisions.

The programme will also provide an opportunity for the young footballers on mentorship and guidance led by Africa’s all time top scorer at the FIFA world cup , Asamoah Gyan.

The championship has produced some notable talents since it’s inception led by UK based Mathew Anim Cudjoe, Emmanuel Yeboah (FC Cluj), Raymond Anokye Asante (Udinese), Emmanuel Mensah (Cluj) amongst others.

All matches from the round of 8 will be televised with multiple agents scouting for young talents.

German based Ghanaian scout, Mr Ado Kojo, who is a key scout for Napoli, Dortmund, Bayern Leverkusen, Shalke 04, and FC Cologne is expected to grace the occasion after confirming his presence to the event organizers.

Berekum Chelsea bankroller Bernard Amofa Jantuah to contest for Ghana FA presidency

Bernard Nana Yaw Amofa Jantuah, the bankroller of Berekum Chelsea, a team in the Ghana Premier League, has announced his intention to run for the presidency of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The GFA is set to hold its next election to choose a new President for the football governing body in October 2023.

According to Ghanasportsonline, Jantuah, who is also the CEO of Benamof Group of Companies, is eagerly waiting to present his plans for the elections as the incumbent President, Kurt Okraku, reaches the end of his four-year term on Wednesday, October 23, 2023.

Aside from his involvement in football, Mr. Jantuah is well-known for his philanthropy and has a background in politics.

He acquired a majority of shares in the 2010/2011 league champions, Berekum Chelsea, and has since been actively involved in the club’s affairs.

Osei Kuffour calls on Hearts of Oak and Kotoko managements to restructure recruitment plans

In recent years, both clubs have faced challenges in attracting the best talent from the local football scene, a situation that differs from their past successes.

Samuel Opoku Nti, a former Ghanaian international, expressed his sense of fulfillment after his time playing for Asante Kotoko.

Opoku Nti, who is fondly remembered by the fans for his contributions and success at the club, reflected on his journey and the role his father played in fostering his love for Asante Kotoko.

“My dad was a devoted supporter of the club, despite being a Police Officer. I began developing my love for Asante Kotoko at the age of 6 when I started accompanying him to watch their matches. Although my mother initially opposed my involvement in football, I had the unwavering support of my dad,” the 62-year-old shared during an interview with Dan Kweku Yeboah TV.

Recalling his path from youth football to joining Kotoko, the former Ghanaian international revealed that he was first spotted by the Porcupine Warriors in 1978 during a friendly match between Kotoko and Highlanders at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

“In 1978, Kotoko discovered me in Kumasi during a friendly game against Highlanders. I received an invitation to participate in that match and performed exceptionally well. From that moment, I knew I would play for Kotoko due to the immense love I had for the club. That’s how my journey with Kotoko began,” he added.

Opoku Nti also had stints with Servette in Switzerland, as well as Aarau and Baden in Sweden, further expanding his footballing career beyond his time at Kotoko.

According to an interview with Onua Sport, former Ghanaian footballer Emmanuel Osei Kuffour has recommended that the technical handlers of the Black Stars remove captain Andre Ayew from the national team and introduce emerging talents such as Kudus Mohammed.

Kuffour concluded by stating that “Andre Ayew has served and must give way…His younger brother Jordan is there and still has something to deliver, unlike Dede, who has fulfilled his responsibilities with the senior national team. He needs to leave and make way for others too.”

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially granted approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Cape Coast Stadium to host Ghana’s crucial matchday five fixture in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Central African Republic.

Following a thorough evaluation process, both stadiums have successfully met the rigorous FIFA/CAF standards, ensuring that they meet all the necessary requirements to serve as suitable venues for the qualifying matches.

The upcoming match for the Ghanaian national team, known as the Black Stars, is scheduled against Madagascar on June 18. This will be followed by a significant home game against the Central African Republic on September 4.

In the previous qualifiers, Ghana displayed their strength by securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium and then playing to a 1-1 draw against Angola in Luanda. These results have positioned Ghana at the top of Group E in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
