Former Black Stars captain, Dede Ayew says he is ready to deliver his best for his newly signed club, NAC Breda, to attain great heights.

Topmost on his agenda now is to do his utmost best to help NAC Breda stay in the top flight Dutch league.

Dede Ayew after putting pen on paper to seal contractual agreement said: “I am someone who loves challenges, both personally and as a team. I find that here at NAC”

” I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. We’re in a situation where staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters” he noted.

Dede Ayew, the son of Abedi Ayew Pele – three times Africa Best Player captained the national U-20 team, the Black Satellites to win the World Youth Championship for the first time in 2009 in Egypt.

Prior to that remarkable feat, he had earned his first Black Stars call up in 2008 under coach Cluade Le Roy for the AFCON 2008 where the Black Stars won bronze medals.

He was integral part of the Black Stars team that subsequently won silver medals in 2010 and 2015 AFCON.

He has featured prominently in three FIFA World Cup in 2010 in South Africa, 2014 in Brazil and 2022 in Qatar.

Dede will cease this opportunity given to him by NAC Breda to re-launch himself into the Black Stars team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

OFFICIAL: Kotoko completes the signing of Prince Badu

Asante Kotoko have announced the signing of defensive midfielder Prince Badu on a three-year contract following the successful completion of his medical.

The midfielder joins the Porcupine Warriors from Nations FC, where he has been a consistent presence over the last two-and-a-half seasons, making close to half a century of league appearances.

Known for his discipline, positional awareness, and ability to break up play, Badu adds much-needed depth and balance to Kotoko’s midfield.

Head Coach Abdul Karim Zito explained the thinking behind the signing, saying: “We felt it was very important to strengthen the defensive midfield area. At the moment, we have only one natural defensive midfielder, and we also have to carefully manage the minutes of Lawson Manu, who is still a young player. Prince gives us the balance we need. He understands the league, he’s tactically disciplined, and he will help us maintain intensity and stability in midfield over the remainder of the season and the next few years”

Speaking about his move, Prince Badu said: “Joining Kotoko is a big moment for me. This the biggest club in the country, and I’m grateful for the opportunity. I know the expectations are high here, but that’s what motivates me as a player. I’m ready to work hard, learn, and give my best whenever I’m called upon. I want to help the team in any way I can and grow with the club over the next few years.”

Prince Badu will wear the number 44 jersey as he begins his journey with the Porcupine Warriors.

Egypt Coach Hossam Hassan criticises CAF decisions to move AFCON to every four years

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

Former Egyptian forward and now coach of the Pharaoh’s of Egypt, Hossam Hassan is not happy at all with the new format from CAF which will see the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) being held every four years.

“I am completely against the four-year cycle, which is clearly designed to accommodate European clubs and professional players. Can CAF change the format of the European Championship? Of course not.

“I am not satisfied with this decision at all. As an African and Egyptian former player, I believe these tournaments are being tailored to suit European clubs. There must be a strong stance from African national teams against CAF” he told the press in Morocco where he is currently leading Egypt in the ongoing AFCON.

The Africa Cup of Nations has been a two-year tournament since its inception in 1957. After the 2012 edition, CAF changed the years from even to odd number in order not to coincide with the FIFA World Cup calender.

With just some few weeks to the commencement of the 2025 AFCON, CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced that the executives of CAF have revised their decision to play the continent’s flagship competition every two years.

This has not gone down well with most fans, past footballers, football administrators and coaches including legendary Hossam Hassan.

AFCON 2025: Can coach Kwasi Appiah make impact with Sudan?

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

The ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) in Morocco is really gathering momentum with beautiful display of football artistry and amazing goals as well.

To most connoisseur of the game, host Nations, Morocco, stands a good chance of winning their second AFCON having won it once in 1976 looking at their winning start and in-form players at their disposal.

On the contrary, some football pundits also believe it will be a herculean task for the Moroccans who made history as the first African side to reach the semi finals of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.

This is simply because teams like Nigeria, Algeria and Egypt who have have the AFCON unprecedented 7 times are also coming with full force.

West Africa side, Ivory Coast hosted and won the last AFCON. It was their third Africa success having won in 1992 and 2015 all against the Black Stars of Ghana.

Since the Pharaoh’s of Egypt won the AFCON three times in a roll in 2006, 2008, and 2010, no country has been able to defend the AFCON trophy in the last 15 years.

The entire continent are anxiously waiting to see whether Ivory Coast can break that long standing jinx.

At the moment, Coach Coach Kwasi and his Sudanese team are catching all attention in Morocco.

Sudan are on record to have won only a game since the inception of the AFCON in 1957. However, they defied all odds to beat Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in Morocco.

It was their second AFCON win mastermind by a Ghanaian coach Kwasi Appiah. The victory is a clear indication that coach Kwasi Appiah’s qualification from the group comprising Angola, Niger and four times champions Ghana Black Stars was not by fluke.

The world is waiting to see where the Sudanese will get to in the ongoing AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
