Ghana international, Daniel Amartey has marked his official debut for his new club, Besiktas.

The defender signed for the Turkish Superlig outfit last week when he joined on a free transfer after ending his stay in England.

Today, he missed out on a starting role when Besiktas locked horns with Albanian outfit KF Tirana in the UEFA Europa Conference League playoffs.

At the break, Daniel Amartey was introduced into the game to solidify the defense of his team.

Ten minutes into his debut, the Black Stars centre-back scored with a fantastic effort to shoot Besiktas into the lead.

That goal inspired the Turkish side to score a second in the 76th minute thanks to a strike from veteran forward Vincent Aboubakar.

With the 2-0 win today, Besiktas have advanced to the next round of the playoff with a 5-1 aggregate win over KF Tirana.

Besiktas will now take on Neftçi PFK in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the UEFA Conference League.

She shared her thoughts in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports following the dissolution of the club’s board before the commencement of the 2023-2024 BetPawa Ghana Premier League season.

Since the board’s dissolution, an interim management committee has been appointed, with Emmanuel Newton Dasoberi taking on the role of Administrative Manager and former Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah appointed as the club’s Technical Director.

Reflecting on her time as a board member, Evelyn Nsiah Asare revealed, “It was an experience. It was good, it was not easy because…23 years experience in the women’s game, three years in the men’s game, there was a bit [of] difference but I think it was good.

“I have served, I am done and I thank Manhyia so much. I thank Opemsuor (Otumfuo Osei Tutu II) for giving me this opportunity. It was an honour done me and I believe I did it to the perfection of what they wanted from me and I wish them well.”

Prior to the conclusion of the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season, both the players and the technical staff had not received their salaries for four months.

Following the dissolution of the Dr Kwame Kyei-led 12-member board of directors and the Nana Yaw Amponsah-led management, it was confirmed that the wages for the players and technical team were in arrears.

The club’s life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, directed the IMC to clear the debt before considering any new player recruitment for the upcoming 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season. Additionally, the IMC received an amount of GhC600,000 to prepare the team for the new football season.
