Released Kotoko striker Samuel Boateng joins lower-tier side Mid City FC

Former Asante Kotoko striker, Samuel Boateng, has officially completed his move to the lower-tier team Mid City FC.

The 25-year-old forward saw his contract with the Porcupines mutually terminated just a few days ago following an unsuccessful spell. Boateng had spent the latter half of the 2022/23 season on loan at FC Samartex 1996, where he struggled to make an impact.

The decision to loan him out was made after Boateng found it challenging to secure a spot in Asante Kotoko’s starting lineup during the first half of the 2022/23 season, featuring in only seven matches.

During his stint at FC Samartex, Boateng participated in 11 Premier League matches for the Timber Giants but failed to find the back of the net. Following the conclusion of the season, he returned to Kotoko.

However, the reappointment of Dr. Prosper Nartey Ogum ushered in a wave of departures as the club readied itself for the upcoming season. Boateng was among those affected by this overhaul and has now signed a one-year contract with the Division Two club.

It has reported that Boateng may not end up playing for Mid City FC, as there are also offers from foreign clubs on the table.

CAF Champions League: Nigerian side Remo Stars arrive in Ghana ahead of Medeama showdown

Nigerian club, Remo Stars have arrived in Ghana ahead of their CAF Champions League preliminary stage clash against Ghanaian champions, Medeama SC. 

Remo Stars touched down on Saturday morning in Accra, arriving in a private jet with 20 players, the technical team and management members.

The team will travel to Cape Coast later on Saturday for their mandatory training at the Cape Coast stadium before tomorrow’s showdown.

Both Remo Stars and Medeama are hoping to make it to the next stage of the competition, with the winner on aggregate facing Guinean giants AC Horoya.

“It’s a crucial moment for the club, the players, inclusive of myself the coach, being our first time playing in the Champions League and we are most excited. Most importantly we are playing against a private-owned club in the same region of Africa,” coach Daniel Ogunmodede said.

Medeama are also playing in the tournament for the first time after winning the Ghana Premier League.

The Mauve and Yellow will travel to Nigeria for the second leg next week.

Bibiani GoldStars appoint Godwin Ablordey as assistant coach

Godwin Ablordey has been appointed as the assistant coach for Ghana Premier League team Bibiani GoldStars FC ahead of the new season. 

Ablordey joins the Miners, leaving relegated King Faisal.

He will assist coach Michael Osei when the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign starts in September. 

Ablordey has gained much experience after acting as head coach for King Faisal following the departure of Jimmy Corbblah early part of last season.

The former Kotoko captain also deputised coach Ignatius Osei Fosu, who led the Isha Allah boys to the relegation.

GoldStars are keen on improving on their impressive performance last season hence the decision to strengthen their technical team with the appointment of Ablordey.

The Miners will begin their 2023/24 Ghana Premier League campaign with s trip to Golden City Park to face Berekum Chelsea.

Kotoko close to signing PAC Academy youngster Peter Acquah – reports

PAC Academy attacker Peter Acquah is on the verge of sealing a deal to Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko, according to Kumasi-based Opemsuo Radio. 

According to the report, the talented forward has been training with the Porcupine Warriors at Beposo, where they are having their pre-season ahead of the 2023/24 football season.

Acquah led PAC Academy to secure promotion to the 2023/24 Division One League which is set to begin in October.

Kotoko, in a bid to improve upon last season’s display, has strengthened their squad with the acquisition of Henry Ansu, Kalo Ouattara, Nanabayin Amoah, Dawuni Yahaya, Andrews Manu and Samuel Asamoah.

However, the club has announced the departure of Mohammed Alhassan, Dickson Afoakwa, Samuel Boateng, Andrews Appau and Joseph Amoako.

We are not under pressure to beat Remo Stars on Sunday – Medeama coach Evans Adotey

Medeama SC trainer Augustine Evans Adotey has mentioned that his charges are not under pressure ahead of their first leg tie of the preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League match against Nigerian side Remo Stars FC on Sunday August, 20, 23.

The gaffer was answering a wide range of questions from the local media on Friday afternoon at the Cape Coast Stadium Conference Room.

He indicated that he had done the necessary preparations to see his side through to the next stage of the competition.

“No! There is no pressure on me or my team. Hearts is different from Medeama, Medeama is different from Kotoko. Set your objectives right, prepare your team well. Make sure you know your opponents. It’s a matter of making sure you qualify to the next round.


The experienced gaffer opined that playing away from home in Cape Coast will not affect his side in anyway. 


“Playing away from home or home from away is not important. What I need and want is to see my team qualify, and I am always prepared to see Medeama sailing through to the next stage of the competition. One at a time! We are looking at Sunday’s game and we’ll strategise for the return leg.”

The game is scheduled to at 3 pm local time.

The reverse fixture will be held on August 27.

FIFA approve Ghana FA’s $100,000 worth of footballs project for Colts clubs

FIFA has approved the Ghana Football Association’s FIFA Forward application for $100,000 worth of footballs for the development of Colts football in Ghana.

GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku announced at the 29th Session of the GFA Congress that an amount of $100,000 via FIFA Forward has been allocated to purchase footballs for Colts clubs as part of efforts to revamp the Colts Leagues across the country.

This intervention is one of the many policies that have been approved by the GFA Executive Council to support the Regional Football Associations in the organization of the grassroots Leagues across the country.

Part of the footballs will be Size 4 to be used by U13 and U15 Colts clubs with the rest being Size 5 for U17 Colts clubs.

At the Ordinary Congress which was held at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology on Monday, July 10, 2023, the GFA President also announced the introduction of the National Juvenile Awards to honor top performers.

2023 GFA Elections: Vetting date for applicants announced

The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that vetting of applicants for the GFA Elections 2023 will take place on Monday, August 21 and Tuesday, August 22,2023.

This vetting exercise will take place at the Swiss Spirits Alisa Hotel – North Ridge in Accra.

Applicants  are adviced to come along with all originals of the documents submitted to the Elections Committee.

They include ID, Tax Clearance Certificate, Police Clearance etc. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of Applicants.

I am 80% confident Kotoko will win the league – Kalo Ouattara

Asante Kotoko’s new striker, Kalo Ouattara is confident Kotoko will clinch the upcoming 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

The 22-year-old joined the Porcupine Warriors from Berekum Chelsea where he established himself as one of their key marksmen last season.
 
He scored five goals and contributed five assists in as many games in his maiden campaign in the Ghanaian top flight with Berekum Chelsea.

He is hopeful that his new side will win the league.

“Last season was my maiden season and I have learned a lot of things and I know I see improvement this season, ” he told the club’s Media.

“For the league, I am 80 per cent sure that we can win the league. The coach has been taking us through drills and we are preparing well.

“I have my qualities the other players have theirs too so when we put ourselves together we can we the league.

” I can’t say I’ll score 30 goals at the end of the season, but I would do my best to help the team win the league.”

Kotoko are currently having their pre-season activities at Beposo in the Ashanti Region.

They have augmented the side by the acquisition of Henry Ansu, Samuel Asamoah, Yahaya Dawuni and others.

2023 Homowo Cup cancelled

The much anticipated Homowo Cup clash between Heats of Oak and Great Olympics has been called off following the latter’s decision to be in this year’s edition.

The expected crucial battle between the two rivals had aroused enthusiasm, but it received a major blow by Great Olympics’ decision which forced organisers to suspend the planned event which was scheduled for Sunday, August 20.

A statement released on Friday afternoon read, “The Homowo Cup match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics scheduled for Sunday, August 20, 2023, has been called off.

“This development has been necessitated by a late withdrawal from the said match by Accra Great Olympics. We apologise unreservedly to Nii Dr Ayi Bonte- Gbese Mantse, the Ghana Football Association, Accra Hearts of Oak SC, the media, and all football enthusiasts for this unfortunate development,”

While Great Olympics’ reason for backing out remains unknown, Gbese Mantse Nii Dr Ayi Bonte has expressed his desire to convince them to agree on a new date to for the match.

Both clubs are based in Accra, and the occasion has special significance as a celebration of Ga heritage.

GFA not responsible for investing in pitches – Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh

Chairman of the Club Licensing Board, Dr Kwame Baah-Nuakoh has explained that the current state of pitches in Ghana cannot be blamed on the Gana Football Association (GFA).

This follows the recent outcry by football fans about the poor state of pitches used for various domestic competitions in Ghana.

However, in contrast to the complaints received by the GFA, Kwame Baah-Nuakoh says it is the sole responsibility of the clubs to improve pitches to reach the required standards.

According to him, the Club Licensing Board have worked diligently to ensure these clubs improve the pitches they adopt for their matches in their respective competitions.

“When it comes to pitches, it’s all about investment. The GFA is not responsible for the pitches, it’s the clubs,” he told Citi Sports in an interview.

“The clubs are responsible for deciding which pitch they want to move [to]. Over the years, the Club Licensing Board has been trying to encourage clubs to maintain and improve [pitches].

“You cannot tell me that there is a venue in the Premier League which has not seen any improvement since club licensing [started]. It might not be up to the standard that you see in Morocco but there is not a single venue in Ghana that has not seen any changes,” he added.

The Ghana Premier League is set to begin on September 155 at the various match centres.
