Ismaily SC striker Yaw Annor sets sight on winning Egyptian Premier League goal king award

Ghanaian striker Yaw Annor has set his sights on winning the 2023/24 Egyptian Premier League goal King Award.

Annor, who plays for Ismaily SC believes he has gained the requisite experience ahead of his second season in Egypt to win the most cherished individual award in the Egyptian Premier League.

He scored seven goals, winning a few man-of-the-match awards in his maiden season, assisting Ismaily to place 11th with 40 points. 

“We have started our preseason and will join my colleagues soon. But my target for the upcoming season is to win the Egyptian goal king,” he told Otec FM in Kumasi. 

“I am not the first Ghanaian to play there and I can say John Antwi did tremendous work winning the goal king. So, it will serve as a big motivation.” 

The 25-year-old scored 22 goals in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season to win the goal king award with a stiff opposition from Asante Kotoko forward Frank Etouga Mbella.

Several reports confirmed Annor was sold to the Egyptian top flight for $200,000.

Annor previously had stints in Spain for CF Fuenlabrada and Burgos CF and also won his first silverware with Bechem United in the 2016 MTN FA Cup.

Ghana prodigy Ernest Nuamah to sign for Lyon in a €30m deal

Ghanaian prodigy, Ernest Nuamah, is about to break Danish transfer record in a ground-breaking transfer to French side Lyon.

The teenage talent would cost the French club Lyon a stunning €30 million, according to reports.

The previous Danish record for a transfer cost was €17 million, which Rennes spent for Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana. This historic fee is almost twice as much.

However, Nuamah’s relocation crosses international boundaries because it is anticipated to be the most expensive in Scandinavian history.

Nuamah, who is only 19 years old, has garnered a lot of notice for his exceptional on-field abilities.

Notably, a number of illustrious teams, notably PSG, displayed interest in signing him.

Manchester City reportedly agree €60m deal to sign Jeremy Doku

Manchester City has reached an agreement to finalize the acquisition of Jeremy Doku, the winger from Stade Rennais, as confirmed by the reputable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, personally engaged in discussions with the 21-year-old player regarding his impending transfer. Doku has already come to terms on personal conditions for a long-term contract with the triple-winning team.

A series of medical examinations are set to take place later this week, according to the report.

The intention behind recruiting Doku is to fill the void left by Riyad Mahrez, who made a significant move to the Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal earlier in the current transfer window.

Doku’s contractual commitment extends until June 2025, having initially joined from Anderlecht in 2020.

Ghana to face Liberia in friendly match ahead of Central African Republic clash

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reportedly scheduled an additional friendly match for the Black Stars as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The friendly will see the Black Stars facing off against Liberia on September 12th at the Accra Sports Stadium. This match comes just five days after Ghana’s AFCON encounter with the Central African Republic (CAR).

The Black Stars are in a crucial position as they require a draw against CAR to secure their spot in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

In addition to the friendly against Liberia, the Black Stars are also set to play two other friendly games against the USA and Mexico. These friendly matches are intended to help the team gear up for the tough competition of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, which are set to kick off in November.

The team’s performance in these friendly matches could have an impact on their momentum heading into the qualifiers.

Ghana attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus has been named in the Dutch Eredivisie Team-Of-The-Week for the second week of the competition.

The 23-year-old after scoring in the team’s first game contributed massively in the second game over the weekend as Ajax drew 2-2 with Excelsior. The midfielder fought hard to help his team come from a goal down to settle for a draw in the crucial encounter.

Jeremie Frimpong scores and assists in Bayer Leverkusen’s win against Leipzig

Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Jeremie Agyekum Frimpong scored and assisted in Bayer Leverkusen’s 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga’s opening matches on Saturday.

Jonathan Tah added a second goal for the home team ten minutes after Frimpong’s spectacular right-footed strike that gave Leverkusen the lead in the 24th minute.

Before the interval, Leipzig’s in-form Dani Olmo cut the lead to 2-1 to conclude the first half.

However, in the 64th minute of the game, Frimpong set up Florian Wirtz to give Bayer Leverkusen their two-goal advantage back.

Leverkusen won 3-2 despite a goal by Lois Openda in the 71st minute.

After playing for 78 minutes, the 22-year-old was substituted by Arthur Augusto De Matos Soares.
