Medeama release statement on home venue for Caf Champions League campaign

Medeama Sporting Club have announced that the hierarchy has not selected the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as its home venue for the group stage of the 2023-24 CAF Champions League.

According to the club, they have chosen the T and A Stadium in Tarkwa as its first option, awaiting inspection and clearance from the continent’s governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Currently, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium remain the only TWO approved venues for the group phase of the CAF inter-club competition.

The two venues are under consideration together with the newly built T and A Stadium in Tarkwa.

The Cape Coast Stadium served as the home venue of the team during the preliminary round with a decision on the permanent venue for the group stage to be made soon.

“We want to use this opportunity to thank Ghanaians for their massive show of support to the club in the Africa elite inter-club competition.

“Regardless of the venue chosen for our home matches, we are confident that Ghanaians will turn up in their numbers to support the team to thrive.”

Five shortlisted for Player of the Month for September

Five players have been shortlisted for the NASCO player of the month for September, 2023.

Bofoakwa Tano FC’s Saaka Dauda and Elijah Addai have both been nominated alongside Stephen Amankoma of Berekum Chelsea, Baba Hamadu Musah of FC Samartex and Evans Wiredu of Karela FC.

The five players were impressive for their respective Clubs throughout the month.

The winner will receive a 43-inches NASCO Television set from Electroland Ghana Limited.

After guiding their respective teams to some impressive performances last month, three Technical heads are in the race for the NASCO Coach of the Month for September, 2023.

Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin of Legon Cities FC, Samuel Frimpong Manso of Bofoakwa Tano FC and Nurudeen Amadu of FC Samartex 1996 are all gunning for the top award.

The winner will be announced before the Matchday five games.

The winner will receive a 43-inch NASCO Television set from Electroland Ghana Limited.

Mark Addo has been elected as Vice President of the Ghana Football Association for another term after receiving a unanimous approval from the Executive Council.

The Koforidua Semper FI Director was nominated by Dr. Ransford Abbey and seconded by Frederick Acheampong while the other Members of the Council unanimously voted for him to retain his position as Vice President.

This is in conformity with Article 37(3) of the GFA Statutes 2019 which provides that ”The Vice President of the Executive Council shall be elected from amongst the Members of the Executive Council at its maiden sitting. He shall act in the absence of the President”.

Vice President Mark Addo thanked the Membership of the Council for the appointment and called for support to continue with the good work.

‘’I am humbled by the gesture from my brother Dr. Randy Abbey and my colleagues that I have worked with for the past four years. I have learnt a lot from you and I know you have also learnt a bit from me in our first term’’ Vice President Mark Addo said.

‘’It’s not been easy but with the guidance of the President, we have been able to go through it. On the fact that we have started something special in the football ecosystem and the overwhelming support and affirmation from the football family speaks volumes of our work in the last four years’’.

‘’The reality is that we have made a positive impact in Ghana Football. I will seek your support to back the President so that our football will be among the best if not the best in Africa’’ he added.

Sudan unveils Kwesi Appiah as new head coach

Former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has been officially introduced as the new head coach of the Sudan national football team.

The 64-year-old coach signed his contract in Saudi Arabia, as the Sudanese Football Association currently operates from there due to the instability in Sudan.

Appiah has committed to a three-year contract with the primary goal of revitalizing football in the Northeast African nation. Assisting him in this mission will be Ignatius Osei Fosu, the former coach of Techiman Eleven Wonders and Dreams FC, along with ex-Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda, who will serve as the goalkeeper’s trainer.

One of Appiah’s initial responsibilities is to prepare the Sudanese team for their upcoming international matches against Togo and DR Congo in the World Cup qualifiers.

Despite his new role with Sudan, Appiah will continue overseeing operations at Asante Kotoko, where he holds the position of Technical Director and Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC).

As part of his appointment as head coach of the Sudan national team, Kwesi Appiah is set to receive a monthly salary of $50,000.

In addition to his new coaching role, Appiah recently secured a seat on the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Committee, following his successful election during the Elective Congress held last week.

Kwesi Appiah is widely recognized for his remarkable achievement of leading Ghana to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil during his tenure as the national team coach.

CAF Women’s Champions League: Ampem Darkoa Ladies drawn in Group B alongside AS FAR and two others

Ghanaian Champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have been paired with AS FAR Club of Morocco, AS Mande of Mali and Huracanes FC of Equatorial Guinea in Group B of the upcoming CAF TotalEnergies Africa Women’s Champions League.

The Techiman-based club entered into the competition as winners of WAFU Zone B following a 1:0 win against Nigerian club Delta Queens in the final to win the Zone.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies will begin their campaign against defending Champions, AS FAR of Morocco before taking on AS Mande and Huracanes FC.

In Group A, host Atheletico FC from Ivory Coast will face Sporting Casablanca from Egypt, previous winner, Mamelodi Sundown ladies from South Africa and JKT Queens from Tanzania.

CAF Women’s Champions League Final is scheduled to be played in Cote d’Ivoire between 05-19 November 2023.

Asante Kotoko stun Accra Lions with stoppage-time goal

Asante Kotoko scored late to pip Accra Lions 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday afternoon in match week four of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

Summer signing Kalo Ouattara scored the winner deep in the 8th minute of added time to secure Asante their first win of the new season.

Returning head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum had endured a run of two draws and a defeat in their first three matches prior to today’s match.

Also, before this match Accra Lions were also an unbeaten streak with a win against Legon Cities and draws against Berekum Chelsea and champions Medeama SC, all away from home.

But today’s task proved difficult for Lions as they held on for the whole 90 minutes until poor goalkeeping saw them get punished.

New signing from Berekum Chelsea, Kalo Ouattara pounced on the poor goalkeeping to score deep into the last minute of stoppage time to give Asante Kotoko a 1-0 win over the hosts.

The win means Kotoko are now 10th with 5 points while Lions are 8th with 5 points.

Asante Kotoko will next face Aduana FC on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi in match week five of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League.

For Accra Lions, they will play as guests to Great Olympics the same day.

Asante Kotoko will be hoping to claim their first win of the season when they play Accra Lions in Accra on Monday.

Prosper Narteh Ogum has named a 20-man squad to face Accra Lions in a matchday 4 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors are without a win after two games and will be seeking to move out from the relegation zone after Monday’s crucial encounter with the Accra-based side, who are yet to lose a game this season.


Augustine Agyapong, Richmond Opoku, Justice Blay and Nicholas Osei Bonsu have bounced back to boost the team.

Other squad members, such as Sheriff Mohammed, Steven Mukwala, George Mfegue and Baba Yahaya, who rescued the team last weekend are also available for selection.

The game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

“We have no striker, I tell you again we have no striker,” says Hearts coach Martin Koopman after Dreams FC draw

Hearts of Oak head coach Martin Koopman has shockingly stated that his side just doesn’t have prolific goal scorers to compete in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.


This was the sentiment of the Dutch trainer after the Phobians were held in a scoreless stalemate by Dreams FC on match day 4 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.


According to the coach, he substituted the club’s number one attacker, Ramos Kashala, because he was playing poorly.

“We have no striker. I tell you again, we’ve got no striker. Issah [Kuka] has gone abroad, so we have no striker. I tell them every time.

“Do you think Kashala was good when playing? No, he was not good. Hamza Issah is young; he is a fighter, and that was the next option.”

Hearts have a paltry four points after four games in the top flight, recording one victory, two defeats, and a draw.

The club’s only goal of the season was scored by Congolese forward Kashala when Hearts defeated Nsoatreman FC 1-0 in Accra.

Hearts have not been impressive upfront since the start of the season, despite the high hopes following their impressive preseason activities.

Heart of Lions continue the search for their first win of the season after being held to a goalless draw by Bofoakwa Tano at the WAFA Arena on Sunday, October 8 2023.

The game was balanced one with chances falling to both sides. Lions dominated the game in the first half but a top-notch save by Kobi in post for Bofoakwa denied the hosts the opener.

With both teams failing to take the chances that fell to them, both halves ended in a barren score line.

In the end they had to share the spoils but Bofoakwa will be the happier to win a valuable away from home and preserve their top spot on the league standings.

Heart of Lions host Hearts of Oak for their next match while Bofoakwa Tano will welcome Bibiani Gold Stars to the Sunyani Coronation Park.
