Name: Benjamin Mireku
Date of Birth:11/11/2001
Position: Central midfield
Nationality: Ghanian
Club: Tema City FC
Games 23, Goals 11

Below is a brief report on midfield gem Benjamin Mireku by talent spotter Mamadu Bobó Djalo. Between 2008 and 2011, he scouted for English Premier League side Chelsea FC. According to Djalo, Mireku could soon be a back-up for Thomas Partey in next Ghana national team squad.

Bobo Djalo’s Report:

Sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward. This has certainly been the case for the Tema City FC schemer, who under the astute Yaala has been transformed from an attacking midfielder into a deep-lying playmaker.

The Tema City coach felt that the player lacked sufficient pace to play behind the front-two, but possessed a wide range of passing and shrewd reading of the game to exploit space from a withdrawn role.

Now 18, Mireku is certainly a composed customer on the ball and his ability to retain possession could see him back-up Thomas Partey in next Ghana national team squad.

Tall and physically imposing, he may not be a fearsome ball-winner but his duties are not confined to a holding role and once in possession he can drive forward incisively before delivering a decisive pass or unleashing a thunderous drive.

Head held high and an elegant mover, it was a innate desire to have the ball at his feet that propelled the Tema-born lad through the ranks of his local club to his debut at 14 years.

Ghanaian international, Kasim Nuhu Adams has said that recurrent injuries have hindered his progress since moving to the German Bundesliga.

Nuhu Adams, 24, joined Hoffenheim from Young Boys of Switzerland in the 2018/2019 season after making 16 appearances in all competitions during an injury-ravaged season.

He, however, failed to get much playing time due to injuries, and prior to the commencement of the 2019/20 season, he was loaned to newly promoted German Bundesliga side Fortuna Düsseldorf. Unortunately for him, he was sidelined by injury after joining Dusseldorf on a season-long loan, which he has recovered.

“It hasn’t been easy for me since I came from Switzerland to Hoffenheim. They bought me at a huge price, which I haven’t been able to repay them with a performance that I like,” he told Tv3’s Juliet Bawuah via Instagram conversation.

He continued: “I got injured during my first few games and was out for 2 months and after returning, I wasn’t getting enough playing time so I decided to go on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf in order to get more playing time but I got injured again.

He is hoping to rediscover his form to achieve his target of moving to the German top-flight.

“So, coming to Germany has been too hard for me in terms of injuries. It has not allowed me to play to the level I was in Switzerland but as time goes on, I know I will get my rhythm again and make it in the Bundesliga.”

Nuhu Adams made 12 appearances for Fortuna Düsseldorf before the season was suspended.

Football activities in Germany were put on hold in March due to the outbreak of the novel COVID-19 pandemic. A ban was placed on all public gatherings in a bid to curb the spread of the disease.

However, after two months, the German top-flight will resume on May 16, but will be played behind closed doors to prevent fresh cases.

Nuhu Adams however, laments the absence of fans in the stands when the season returns this weekend.

“It is very exciting to play again but one painful thing is that football is always better with fans. Playing behind closed doors will affect some of us because we have always played in front of our amazing fans,” he told Tv3’s Juliet Bawuah via Instagram conversation.

“We are also battling relegation and we need our fans to cheer us up but we also have to understand the circumstances.

The German Football Association have put in place measures to ensure players are safe from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The former Hoffenheim and Young Boys centre-back disclosed measures outlined by German football governing body and various clubs to ensure safety of the players.

“Measures have been put in place by the federation (DFB) and also the club, to ensure player safety because each player will be tested three times a week and also the jersey we train with, we bring it home to wash them ourselves. All this is to ensure safety.”

Fortuna Dusseldorf will mark the resumption of the season with a home game against Paderborn on Saturday.

The season is expected to come to a close in June.
