Former Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Herbert Kwabena Amponsah Mensah has schooled Ghanaian Football administrators with regards to the do’s and don’ts if they want to achieve their target.

Mensah, who is the leader of the Ghana Rugby Association, was appointed to lead the Porcupine Warriors in 1999, when the team was in a sorry state.

Through the introduction of a 5-year development plan, he together with the management restored the clubs glory days. His plan positioned the club well on the Africa continent.

He is often credited for making a major contribution towards changing the face of Ghanaian professional football.

In an interview with TV3 Sports, Herbert Mensah advised administrators from meddling themselves with on the pitch issues.

“Our job (as club administrators) is not to win matches. Our job is to manage football clubs and therefore as chairman of Asante Kotoko, my job was to win off the field.

“If you win off the field as a sports or football administrator, the winnings on the field will come” he noted.

Herbert Mensah also advised club administrators to not be short-term minded but focused on long-term projects which would put the clubs in a better position in terms of governance.

“The management of a football club is not telling people how rich you are. That ego maniacal way is not the way. It is by showing good governance so that when you leave, whoever that comes after you is in a position to say this is what I’ve got” he concluded.

Amos Frimpong was a weak leader – Samuel kyere

0

Former Asante Kotoko defender, Samuel Kyere Jnr. has labelled former captain of the club Amos Frimpong as a weak leader.

According to the outspoken versatile defender, Frimpong failed to fight for the players during his spell with the club.

The former Berekum Chelsea guardsman joined the Porcupine Warriors as a free agent in a two-year deal in October 2015 after an unsuccessful spell with Armenia side Shirak FC.

Kyere was always tagged as an indiscipline player by the hierarchy of the club and was later demoted to the Youth team, which he refused.

But he has disclosed that assertion is wrong, noting that coach Michael Osei sabotaged him at the club.

“I was not indiscipline in the team as was portrayed by coach Michael Osei. He always talked about whatever I did, using me as an example whenever he was giving a speech,” he told Ashh FM.

“We had nobody to explain our issues with and Amos Frimpong, who was the captain at Asante Kotoko was not able to fight for the players. For me, he was a weak leader.”

He has also played for Techiman Eleven Wonders.

Dong Bortey has pace but Taylor is a better dribbler than him – Ishmael Addo

0

Hearts of Oak legend Ishmael Addo is the latest to join the debate over who the best is between his former teammates Bernard Don Bortey and Charles Taylor.

According to three times Ghana Premier League goalking, Taylor is a better dribbler than Bortey, but the later has pace.

however, he indicated that each of them had unique qualities.

“A couple of days ago, a friend of mine was telling me about this [debate] and I don’t even understand why [they are being compared],” he told Tv3 sports.

“Looking at these two players, they have different styles of play altogether though they are both wingers. Taylor is a better dribbler than Bortey but Bortey also has some qualities that Taylor doesn’t have. Bortey has more pace,” he added.

“It is difficult to compare the two of them because they are both different but I enjoyed playing with both them. They both contributed a lot to Ghana football and Hearts of Oak.”

Pressed on about which of the two players he enjoyed playing with more, Addo refused to pick an outright favorite, preferring to extol the different qualities the two players brought on board.

“I enjoyed playing with Taylor who had the skills to make things happen, and I enjoyed playing with Bortey with his crosses and speed.

“They both added something to my game and I must say it a pleasure playing with them,” he concluded.

The 30-year-old show-stopper has been impressive but has found it difficult to earn an invitation to the senior national team since 2012.

“Well, Ghana has many talents when it comes to goalkeeping. Every player gives his 100% in order to become Ghana Black Stars No. 1,” he told footy.ghpush.com/.

“If my performance is to the expectation of the coaches and the technical team and they want me to be part of the team I wouldn’t turn their invitation down.”

Agyei was adjudged the 2018 Ethiopian Premier league best goalkeeper after a fantastic season with Jimma Abba Jiffar.

He was the second choice goalkeeper for Ghana at the 2010, 2012 and 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and the 2010 World Cup held in South Africa

Agyei has had stints with Liberty Professionals, Medeama, Simba SC and Free State State in his illustrious career.
