Louis Saha advises Arsenal target Thomas Partey to join Manchester United

0

Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has urged Ghanaian international Thomas Teye Partey to choose the Old Trafford side ahead of any other club.

Partey ,27, has been heavily linked with a move to English Premier League side Arsenal. Other sources revealed that the Red Devils are also interested in securing the signature of the combative midfielder.

He has been impressive in the La Liga with Atletico Madrid this season. Partey’s release clause is reported to be around €50million (£43.5m).

“He’s a top player. He’s a defensive presence and a tremendous prospect. Whether he can make an impact right away remains to be seen, as we have McTominay, Fred, and Matic,” Saha told Compare Bet.

“However, we have seen the impact that someone like Fabinho has had on Liverpool. He has mastered that position. Fabinho has improved the players around him.

“This guy is a rock, he defends in such a way that allows the Liverpool frontline to play their game knowing he’s protecting the defence. Perhaps a Fabinho-like player is already at United, but if not, then we need to find someone, whether that’s Thomas Partey or anyone else.”

Partey has three years left on his contract.

Atlético Madrid, meanwhile, are working on a new deal to tie down the player until 2026 (his current contract runs until 2023) and want to increase his clause to a more prohibitive €100m (£87m), according to reports in Spain.

Ghana not an easy place for strikers – Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku

0

Kwame Opoku has high hopes for his Ghana Premier League campaign but is being modest with his expectations as he relishes a tough opposition from defenders.

The striker tells Kotoko Express App he believes in his scoring prowess but is also aware of the opposition he stands to face due to the competitiveness of the league and quality of the defenders around.

The striker earned a three-year deal after a successful trial with the club, but could not make his debut as the league was suspended on the eve of what would have been his first game.

Though yet to taste the Premier League, his immediate record of four goals in five games for former club Nkoranza Warriors, makes him one of the most promising young forwards in the country.

“My dream is to win laurels with Kotoko, but on the personal score, I also want to win the Premier League Goal King title too,” discloses Kwame Opoku. “I do not have a target as to the number of goals I want to score per season because competitive football in Ghana is not an easy one for strikers.”

Emmanuel Baffour and Mahatma Otoo are the only players to have won the Premier League Goal King title with over 20 goals or more within the last ten years, with Emmanuel Baffour recording 21 goals in 2011/12 season and Mahatma Otoo getting 20 goals in the 2012/13 season.

“The reason is not that the strikers are not good,” stresses Opoku. “But, Ghana is blessed with good defenders. Ghanaian clubs are very good defensively. This is a challenge and not an obstacle, and overcoming it is what I hope to do.”

Many have expressed disappointment since the announcement although reports indicate they could be added to increase the number to 11.

Ben Nti – who worked under the Dr. K.K Sarpong administration from 2010 to 2013 – believes it is right to kick out the supporters rep from the board since the practice is not professional.

“Kotoko is a corporate entity. The supporters are customers of the club and should not be on the board of the club,” he told Ashh FM.

“We need to grow and desist from the old practice of naming supporters on the board. They can be part without necessarily being on the board.

“Look at the AKOPA – theirs is even technical. A former director of sports at KNUST and I know he will provide any ideas that could have come from them. Do they want to tell us that, the AKOPA members have much knowledge than him? This man can even teach them.

“We don’t joke with corporate governance. In selecting members onto a board, you need somebody with financial, technical , human resource and legal background.

“Those days where selections were done anyhow should be a thing of the past. AKOPA and supporters could be placed on maybe sub-committee that, they will form.
