Coach Queiroz starts scouting as he watches Black Galaxies at training

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

Black Stars manager Carlos Queiroz has confirmed to Ghanaians that he really mean business in his four months stay in the country.

Just a day after his unveiling, the Portuguese international who has vast FIFA World Cup experience wasted no time in office but rather stepped outside to start his assessment of Ghanaian players.

He took to the Accra Sports Stadium to visit the Black Galaxies, currently in camp preparing for some friendly matches ahead.

Carlos Queiroz did the visitation together with some already existed technical team members including Desmond Offei and John Paintsil, assistant coaches of the Black Stars.

Goalkeeping trainer, Fatawu Dauda, who kept the post for the Black Stars during the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup also joined Queiroz to monitor proceedings of the home based players at training.

Also at the stadium was President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt E. S. Okraku among other GFA officials.

Some Ghanaians have expressed happiness about the seriousness of the new Black Stars gaffer and how quickly he has responded to the task ahead of him.

Ghana plays Mexico on Friday May 22, 2026 and it most likely the home based Stars will be paraded for the game.

Another friendly game in the offing for Black Stars

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

footy.ghpush.com/ can attest that the senior national team, the Black Stars of Ghana will add another international friendly match to their program before the 2026 FIFA World Cup commence on June 11, 2026.

The GFA and Management Committee of the Black Stars are leaving nothing to chance in their quest to build a formidable side that can withstand and opposition at the FIFA World Cup.

Already, the Black Stars have played two international friendly matches against Austria and Germany losing both.

Ghana shamefully lost 5-1 to Austria and subsequently conceded a 2-1 defeat against Germany. They conceded seven goals and scored two in just two games.

This appalling performance from the team led to the exit of Head Coach Otto Addo and his technical advisor Winfred Schafar.

Veteran coach Carlos Queiroz has taken over the mantle and the GFA are making moves to give him good matches to test his side.

The Black Stars are billed to play co-host nation Mexico on May 22, 2026 to be followed by Wales on June 2, 2026.

Aside these two games the GFA are gritty to arrange another trial match as a top up.

“We will sign a contract soon and make an announcement.” were the words of GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum.

Untapped Potential: Addressing Gender Gaps in UENR Sports Participation

0

Despite growing investment in sports at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), female participation across several disciplines remains low, raising concerns about untapped talent and structural barriers within the system.

Director of Sports, Dr. Ebenezer K. Amoh, describes the situation as “not encouraging,” noting that while many female students possess the talent and interest to compete, participation is often hindered by competing academic demands and limited institutional incentives. “Combining academic work with sports is not easy,” he explained. “Some students do not see the need to sacrifice time for training when their efforts are not recognised academically.”

According to Dr. Amoh, the challenge is not a lack of ability but a question of balance and motivation. Many student-athletes, particularly females, must manage demanding academic schedules alongside training and competitions, often without any form of academic concession or structured support.

This imbalance discourages participation, as students fear falling behind academically or delaying their graduation. In athletics, where some level of institutional support has been introduced through scholarships, there is a relatively better gender balance. The University currently has a small but growing number of female athletes competing in track and field events, demonstrating what can be achieved with targeted interventions.

However, the situation is different in team sports such as football, where female representation remains low. Dr. Amoh revealed that although some female students have the potential to compete at high levels, including opportunities at the national level, many are reluctant to fully commit due to the pressures associated with balancing sports and academics.

Beyond gender, the broader challenge of student-athlete motivation also persists. While some athletes are driven by personal passion, others require external incentives to sustain performance and commitment. “When it comes to sports, it goes with funding. We need to motivate these students,” Dr. Amoh stated, emphasising the need for structured incentives, improved facilities and extended training periods to enhance performance. He added that addressing these challenges holistically would not only improve participation rates but also position UENR as a competitive force in university sports.

As the University prepares for the 2026 Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games, the conversation around sports development is expanding beyond performance to include inclusivity, support systems and long-term investment in student-athletes. For UENR, the path to sporting excellence may depend not only on talent but on how effectively it nurtures and supports that talent, both on and off the field.

Latest Update: Mohammed Kudus ruled out for the rest of the season

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

It has become clear that Tottenham Hotspur will miss the service of Mohammed Kudus for the rest of the 2025/26 football season due to injury concerns.

The midfielder got injured at the beginning of the year after an impressive stint in White Hart Lane.

Hopes that he would return to help his side before the curtains on the 2025/26 English Premier League are brought down has hit a snag.

The midfielder has suffered another injury on his recovery and will not be able to feature in any of the remaining six EPL matches.

According to Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi, the offensive midfielder will have to watch his team from home.

”Kudus, for this season, has gone. I am sorry for him. He is a good guy. Should be very important for us, but we lose time if we speak about the past.”

Kudus heath situation also remains a big challenge to the Black Stars currently gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

JUST IN: Saudi Arabia sack Hervé Renard

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

footy.ghpush.com/ can authoritatively report that Coach Herve Renard has been relieved of his post as head coach of the Saudi Arabian national football team.

The French Tactician will therefore be missing from the biggest stage come June 11 to July 19 when all the 48 nations gathered in USA, Canada and Mexico to battle for glory.

Herve Renard remains a household name when it comes to coaching particularly on the African continent.

In 2012 he led an average Zambian side to conquer in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and repeated similar feat with the Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire in 2015.

He made global headlines during the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup when led underdogs, Saudi Arabia to beat eventual World Cup winners Argentina 1-0 in their opening group game.

He became the target of most Ghanaians when Otto Addo was sacked as headcoach of the Black Stars.

But now that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed and given Carlos Queiroz a four months contract, Ghanaians will have to wait until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup before they can approach Herve Renard for fresh negotiations.
