Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo nominated for Bournemouth’s Player of The Month

Antoine Semenyo has been nominated for November’s Bournemouth Player of the Month.

Throughout the current Premier League season, the 22-year-old has been an important performer.

Semenyo has made ten appearances for the Cherries and scored twice so far this season.

With wins over Sheffield United and Newcastle United, Andoni Iraola’s team enjoyed a great November, with Semenyo playing a major part.

The winger’s direct and forceful style of play keeps him essential to Iraola’s squad.

Semenyo made a significant contribution to Dominic Solanke’s first goal against Newcastle and then set up Marcus Tavernier’s first goal at Sheffield United with an impressive performance.

Nonetheless, he is vying for the prize alongside Ryan Christie, Dominic Solanke, and Marcus Tavernier.


Semenyo is expected to be named in Black Stars squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) slated to be hosted in Ivory Coast next year.

Legendary football player Abedi Ayew Pele is optimistic that the Black Stars will win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast in 2023.

Ghana will compete in the forthcoming event, which runs from January 13, 2024, to February 11, 2024, with the goal of winning their fifth AFCON championship. They will play in Group B against Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde.

In an interview with Vision 1 FM, which Footballghana.com aired, the three-time African Footballer of the Year winner declared that Ghana might win the next African Football Championship.

“Well, we will win. There will be our chances. We’ve been to finals three times and I think our chance will be maybe this time or in the next four years we will be there” he said.

The Black Stars last won the competition in 1982, their fourth title and have since then lost three finals. They lost 10 years after their last triumph to Ivory Coast on penalties and also gave away the trophy to Egypt in 2010. Ivory Coast repeated their glory against Ghana in 2015.

Nico Williams signs contract extension at Athletic Club

Athletic Club forward Nico Williams, whose current contract was set to expire at the end of this season, has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal keeping him in Bilbao until 30 June 2027.

Despite being just 21 years old, the international footballer is only four appearances away from reaching 100 matches as a Lion. He is our top assist maker so far this campaign having set up five goals, while nine of his 13 senior strikes came last season.

Athletic have tied down a player who was linked with some of Europe’s biggest sides. However, Nico has chosen to continue making history as a Zurigorri alongside his brother Iñaki Williams and the rest of his teammates.

The pacy winger arrived to Lezama a decade ago at under-12 level and has since made steady progress on his way to becoming a crucial figure in the first team.

Nico, who competed in the last World Cup as a 20-year-old, is a footballer of enormous talent with the ability to impact the present and future. He signed his new deal at San Mames on Friday morning alongside Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte and our director of football, Mikel González.

In line with the Board’s policy, Nico’s new agreement has a fixed salary structure with a variable component based on objectives.

betpawa withdrew as headline sponsor for Ghana Premier League

Ghana Premier League headline sponsor, betPawa has terminated their contract with the Ghana Football Association.

The GFA on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, communicated the termination to all the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs.

This means that, betpawa is no more the headline sponsors of the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League, which is 12 weeks old.

However, the GFA on Thursday, November 30, 2023 noted in a statement that, the two parties have reviewed the partnership between them.

Per the revised partnership, betPawa will pay an increased Locker Room Bonuses to players of every team that wins a league match.

Again, they will complete the artificial pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

betPawa officially signed a deal to become the headline sponsor for the GPL at a ceremony held at the Headquarters of Ghana’s football on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

The gaming company penned a three-year deal worth $ 6 million.

For each season, an amount of $2 million was to be invested into the promotion of the Ghana Premier League.

Also, the GFA mandated to initiate the ‘Locker-room Bonuses’ which is a winning bonus package for each player and technical team of a winning club in the Ghana Premier League.

Part of the sponsorship was said to be invested in the construction of an Astro-turf at the Ghanaman Soccer Center in Prampram to be named the betPawa pitch. The construction was expected to start in October 2022.

Ghana FA and betpawa review partnership deal

The Ghana Football Association has held a successful meeting with the 18 Premier League clubs on various issues on the progress of the league including the revision of the partnership between betPawa and the Association on the Ghana Premier League.

At the meeting which was held at the Boardroom of the Association on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, the GFA and the Premier League clubs fully discussed the revised partnership between the GFA and betPawa. Per the revised partnership, betPawa will pay an increased Locker Room Bonuses to players of every team that wins a league match.

betPawa will complete the artificial pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

The clubs fully discussed and agreed the decision of the Association to provide a package to support clubs for the 2023/24 league season.

The meeting also reviewed the season so far and further discussed various strategies aimed at further improving the Ghana Premier League.

Hearts Of Oak in talks with Swedish gaffer Tom Strand – report

Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Swedish coach Tom Strand to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Martin Koopman.

Koopman, who joined the club at the start of the season with the mandate to rejuvenate the team’s performance, parted ways with Hearts of Oak after falling short of the club’s expectations.

Sources indicate that Hearts of Oak’s management is close to reaching an agreement with Strand, who previously managed the club’s city rivals, Great Olympics and had a great time at Medeama.

Currently based in Sweden, Strand is expected to make the move if the ongoing negotiations are successfully concluded.

The Phobians, who currently hold the sixth position in the league with 16 points, have been without a substantive coach since Koopman’s exit.

Interim coach Abdul Bashiru took charge during this transition period. Hearts of Oak is gearing up to face Aduana Stars at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in their upcoming fixture.

FA Cup Round of 64 Results: Kotoko progress; Hearts of Oak, Aduana & Samartex FC knocked out

Division One League side Nania FC have eliminated Accra Hearts of Oak SC in the Round of 64 of the MTN FA Cup competition.

Matches which were played on Tuesday, November 28 and Wednesday, November 29 produced some interesting results with topflight sides Aduana FC, FC Samartex, Nations FC Accra Lions FC all eliminated from the competition at this stage.

The matches produced some interesting results with some Division One League and Division Two teams advancing to the next stage of the competition.

The first phase of the 2023/24 Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools and Colleges boys’ soccer competition will commence on Thursday, December 14, 2023, across different centers.


A total of 128 schools are expected to compete in the qualifiers in 32 groups of 4 teams.


The winners in each group will cruise into the main competition, which is expected to come off at the Baba Yara Stadium early next year, from January 9, 2024, to January 16, 2024.
 
Defending champions Simms Senior High School have been placed in Group 17 alongside Bompata Presby SHS, Tweapease SHS, and Wesley High School,  Bekwai.

MTN FA Cup: Asante Kotoko defeat Nations FC in six-goal thriller to progress to Round of 32

Asante Kotoko delivered an impressive display as they defeated local rivals Nations FC 4-2 in their MTN FA Cup Round 64 matchup at the Baba Yara Stadium on Tuesday.

The Porcupine Warriors showcased exceptional teamwork and skill, leaving Nations FC struggling to keep up with their pace.

Kotoko took a 3-0 lead within the first 20 minutes, highlighting their strong start to the game. They maintained their momentum throughout, ultimately securing their spot in the Round of 32.

Richmond Lamptey was instrumental in Kotoko’s victory, netting a brace in the first half. His teammates Isaac Oppong and Steven Mukwala also contributed significantly, each grabbing a goal apiece.

Despite scoring two consolation goals, Nations FC couldn’t recover from their poor performance. Their coach Kassim Mingle’s pre-match comments seemed to fall flat, as his team failed to live up to expectations.

With this result, Nations FC must now shift their focus entirely to the Ghana Premier League, while Kotoko continues to compete in both the league and cup competitions.

Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku, is the most effective dribbler in the top five European leagues, according to CIES Football Observatory .

With a rate of 9.8, the Ghanaian winger who was born in Belgium leads the table, followed by Vinicius Jr. of Real Madrid (7.05).

Edon Zhegrova of Lille SC and third-place Kvicha Kvaratskhelia are also on the list.

Nico Williams, a Ghanaian, and PSG’s Ousmane Dembele are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively.

To round out the top ten are Rafael Leao, Lamine Yamal, Kingsley Coman, and Luca Koleosho, in that order.

Since moving from Stade Rennais to Manchester City during the summer transfer window, Doku has been playing incredible football.

The Belgium striker helped City smash Bournemouth with four assists throughout the match.

Meanwhile, Williams, Inaki Williams’ younger brother, is attracting interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
