Former Real Madrid coach Kiko Lopez close to joining Asante Kotoko

French-Spanish trainer Joaquin Lopez Martinez also known as Kiko Lopez is close to landing Asante Kotoko SC coaching job according to sources.

The 49-year-old is expected to be named new coach of the Porcupine Warriors in the coming days.

Lopez has worked as a youth development coach for ten years at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Lopez has also been in charge of the Bahrain U17 and U19 national teams and Olympique Beja in the Tunisian top-flight.

The France-born was appointed first team coach of Spanish side Club Deportivo Torrevieja in 2018.

Lopez will be taking over from Abdul Gazale and Johnson Smith who have in charge of Asante Kotoko since the sacking of Maxwell Konadu in December 2020.

We want Ghana Premier League to be at the level of the EPL – Dr. Tony Aubyn

Ghana Football Association Executive Council Member Dr. Tony Aubyn has indicated that the basic aim of the current administration is to ensure that the Ghana Premier League gets to the level of the English Premier League.

Many have criticised the standard of play of the Ghanaian top-flight. The nature of pitches used in the league is poor as matches are always postponed when there is a heavy downpour.

Player salaries are not the best and clubs normally play seasons without sponsorships.

Dr. Tony Aubyn

Speaking in an interview with Gye Nyame FM, Dr. Tony Aubyn stated that the Ghana FA is not satisfied with the standard of the league.

“We are not overly satisfied with the league so far. We will continue to push to the level of the EPL and the La Liga, that is where we want the level to be.

“We should be able to control the crowd, referees must be able to handle the matches without any perceptible bias and we have to make sure games are played on good pitches.

“We are working on making the league autonomous and improve the system of the league.

“We are not ready to rest, we are not content as a council the rate of our league, ” he concluded.

Asante Kotoko to announce partnership deal with Ashfoam

There is good news for Asante Kotoko as Nana Yaw Amponsah is set to announce new partnership deal with foam manufacturing company, Ashfoam in the coming days.

Nana Yaw Amponsah has been tasked among other things to make the club a global brand.

Aside from that, he has been implored to make the club self-sufficient as for a long time, the football club has been relying on the largess of affluent club chairmen which is unsustainable in this day and age.

The Porcupines have, however, agreed in principle a partnership agreement with Ashfoam Ghana.

Ashfoam will assist Asante Kotoko with the furnishings [furniture, fittings, and other decorative accessories such as curtains and carpets] for the Adako Jachie project.

Ashfoam comes on board as the 10th partner of the African Club of the Century.

Former Asante Kotoko defender Augustine Sefah joins Division One side Bekwai Youth Football Academy

Division One League side Bekwai Youth Football Academy have announced the capture of veteran defender Augustine Sefah in the ongoing transfer window.

He joined the club on a free transfer after ending spell with the Asante Kotoko in October 2020.

Sefah joined Asante Kotoko in May 2017 after leaving AshantiGold SC following the expiration of his contract.

The 29-year old is expected to use his enormous experience to help the second-tier side.

Andre Ayew’s last-minute goal secure victory for Swansea at Stoke City

Ghana’s captain, Andre Ayew scored a late winner for Swansea City AFC on Wednesday evening against Stoke City in the English Championship.

The Ghanaian international grabbed his eleventh goal of the season late in the game to propel the Jack Army’s to a hard earned narrow win.

Both teams kept pushing the winner but it was Swansea City who got the last laugh when Andre Ayew stepped up to convert a 95th minute spot kick after Kyle Naughton was fouled by Jack Clarke.

After Swansea City’s 2-1 win away from home, the Whites and Blacks now moves to fourth on the league table with 62 points and two games in hand.

Match winner, Ayew has scored eleven goals with two assists to his name in the English Championship this season for the Jack Army’s.

DOL Zone Three Week 10 results: Accra Lions, Tema Youth maintain unbeaten run, Royals shock Lions, Vision FC draw blank at home

Zone three leaders Accra Lions maintained their position at the top of the table after a 2-0 win against Krystal Palace on match day 10 of the National Division One League to end their three-game winless run.

This result brings them back to winning ways after a string of three draws on the spin. Accra Lions drew with Mighty Jets, Tema Youth and Heart of Lions after opening the season with a six-game winning run.

Krystal Palace looked hungrier in the opening stages of the game but failed to take their chances as the first half ended goalless.

The visitors improved in the second half and took a deserved lead in the 59th minute through Rauf Salifu. Kelvin Kyei and Alex Agyekum were later replaced inside 72 minutes by Rashid Abubakar and Fatawu Hamidu and the substitutes made an instant impact on the game.

With the game heading to the end, Joseph Addo Tetteh headed home from a corner kick to double the lead for Accra Lions to keep their unbeaten run intact.

Meanwhile, title chasers Tema Youth put up a stellar display on Wednesday afternoon to beat rivals Amidaus Professionals 2-1 at the Tema park to keep them in second place with 24 points.

Stephen Appiah got the opener for Tema Youth in the 37th minute but Adiwo Ernest cancelled the lead before the break.

Tema Youth went ahead again in the 76thminute through Daniel Asare to get the edge over their city rivals. The Harbour are still unbeaten after 10 games in the season.

DOL Zone Two Week 10 results: Skyy FC maintain winning run, Gold Stars beat Hasaacas, Samartex pip Vipers at home

Zone two leaders Skyy FC beat Asokwa Deportivo 1-0 on match day 10 of the National Division One League at St. Martins park.

The win keeps them at the top of the Zone two table with 22 points, one point ahead of second placed Gold Stars who are on 21 points. Isaac Mensah scored in the 78thminute of the game to give the Daboase side all the spoils.

In Bibiani, Gold Stars scored in either half of the game to beat Sekondi Hasaacas 3-0 at Dun’s park. Nuhu Sulley scored an audacious strike inside 16 minutes.

The home side increased the tally in the second half through a spot kick converted by Prince Owusu in the 48th minute.

Sekondi Hasaacas were very firm in the game yet lacked the needed cutting edge to punish the host. Nuhu Sulley scored his second goal in the 83rd minute to put the game beyond the reach of Sekondi Hasaacas.

Tamale City Football Club were big winners on Wednesday as they beat Tano Bofoakwa 2-1 to move to the top of the Zone one league table on match day 10 of the National Division One League.

Bofoakwa, went into the game as league leaders and needed to record a win to protect their lead. But City put up a great fight to win the tie at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale. Sam Otis scored in the second half to increase his season tally to six.

Prince Amakwaa opened the scoring for Tamale City in the first half before Francis Mawuu scored a consolation for Tano Bofoakwa.

In Sunyani, Abbas Mohammed, Samuel Norgbey and Emmanuel Yeboah scored three goals as Young Apostles defeated B.A United 3-0 at the Coronation park. The win takes Apostles to 7th place with 16 points.

Wamanafo Mighty Royals also registered a great away win against Paga Crocodiles beating them 3-0 at Paga town park.

Kotoko ordered to Gh¢ 204,600 within 7 days or face sanctions as GFA release decisions on Appeal cases of four former players of the club

The Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has released decisions on cases concerning Asante Kotoko SC and four of its former players, Abass Mohammed, Mathew Kelvin Andoh, Stephen Tetteh Ayiku and Evans Owusu.

Asante Kotoko SC being dissatisfied with the decision on the four players given by the Players’ Status Committee (PSC), appealed against the decisions at the Appeals Committee.

It will be recalled that the quartet petitioned the PSC on the Club’s unilateral termination of their contracts and won at the PSC level, which resulted in Asante Kotoko SC being asked to pay the outstanding salaries, signing on fee of the players as well as suffer a one window transfer ban.

In the instant decisions of the Appeals Committee, the transfer ban has been overturned but the payment of outstanding salaries and signing on fees for the four players were upheld.

OFFICIAL: Preko, Acheampong land Medeama coaching job

Medeama have appointed former Ghana International Yaw Preko as the new head Coach of the club until the end of the season.

Preko moves in to replace Samuel Boadu – who shockingly resigned from the club over the weekend.

Before this appointment, Preko had a short spell at fellow Ghana Premier League side Great Olympics.

The former Ghana Under-20 coach will reunite with his close friend Yaw Acheampong as his assistant one with Hamza Obeng being named as assistant two

“It’s feels amazing to be here and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the team,” Preko told medeamasc.com

“I cannot wait to meet my new team and compete in the Ghana Premier League.

“There is huge expectation on this fantastic club and we hope to work day and night to succeed.

“I have a fantastic group of friends including my buddy Yaw Acheampong – whom I will be working closely alongside young and dynamic Hamza Obeng.

Medeama Chief Executive James Essilfie added: We are happy to have Yaw Preko and Yaw Acheampong with us. It’s not easy to get a new coach in the middle of the season but we are know and understand the circumstances.

“We have absolute confidence in the pair who will work closely with Hamza Obeng  and the technical director.

“There is so much to play for and much to achieve this season and beyond. We welcome them to Tarkwa.

Preko and his backroom staff will take his first training session on Thursday and will be in the dugout for Sunday’s Premier League game against against Chelsea in Berekum.
