Hearts Of Oak confirm Hamza Obeng as assistant coach

Ghana Premier League powerhouse, Hearts of Oak have confirmed the appointment of Hamza Mohammed Obeng as the new assistant coach of the club.

The emterprising talent spotter joined the Rainbow Club on a long-term deal which will see him in the club until mid 2024.

The 28-year-old will reunite with his former boss Samuel Boadu , whom he has been working with for the past year at Medeama SC.

Hamza joined Medeama as first team assistant coach in December 2018.

The CAF License B holder is known by most football fans in the country having served as former head coach for Sagomens FC and assistant at King Faisal Babies.

Hamza Obeng also made a good name for himselfafter guiding Adu Gyamfi Senior High School to win the Ashanti Regional Inter-Schools soccer competition (Milo Games) on three consecutive occasions, winning the best coach in all those three years.

He hold Bsc in Business Administration from the University of Education, Kumasi campus.

Bechem United confirm Mingle Ocansey as new head coach 

The Hunters lads will be led by the former Great Olympics trainer in the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

Ghana Premier League side Bechem United have announced the appointment of Kassim Mingle Ocansey as the club’s new head coach.

Ocansey has joined the Bechem based club after reaching an agreement with the management of the club earlier this week.

He has been appointed as replacement for Kwaku Danso who left his position last month due to unpaid salaries.

He will be assisted by long-standing coach Osei Wire for their 2020/21 season’s campaign.

Asante Kotoko thrash Gold Coast Academy in friendly encounter

Ahead of the commencement of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League second round, Asante Kotoko sold out an outstanding performance by beating Gold Coast Football Academy in the club’s second mid-season encounter in Kumasi on Wednesday morning.

The game was balanced in the early minute of the game as both sides tried to find their rhythm. Kotoko had more possession of the ball but few chances were created with their dominance.

Naby Keita who was on target last weekend against Ebony FC fetched the opening goal in the game on the 9th-minute before Evans Adomako added the second and his first goal for the club in 2021 after returning from his injury to end the first half.

Asante Kotoko new team dominated the entire second half with some scintillating football in the morning.

Brazilian import, Fabio Gama, on the 76th-minutes gave the Reds a comfortable lead after a brilliant individual effort to score his first unofficial goal for the Porcupines before new signing Francis Andy Kumi who was making his debut for the club scored the fourth in the 87th-minute.

An amazing team effort resulted in a goal for new signing Sarfo Taylor who netted his second goal in his second game for the club in the 90th-minute to give the Reds 5-1 victory.

Black Stars to train at FNB stadium Wednesday evening

Ghana will train at FNB stadium Wednesday evening ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations encounter against South Africa.

The Black Stars arrived at the OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg in the early hours of Wednesday. Players, technical staff and management members will undergo the mandatory COVID-19 test before heading to Soweto for training.

Ghana lead Group C of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, level on points with South Africa but with a superior goal difference.

The two teams are in search of a ticket to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Cameroon next year.

Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, King Faisal, 5 other Ghanaian Clubs ranked among IFFHS’ Top 150 Clubs In Africa

Ghana Premier League giants, Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have been named amongst the best 150 clubs in Africa according to the latest ranking provided by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) for the first decade (2001-2010) of the 21st century.

In addition to the two most glamourous clubs in the West African country, King Faisal, Ashantigold SC, and Liberty Professionals also make the list.

Meanwhile, other lower-tier clubs such as Berekum Arsenal, Kpando Heart of Lions and Real Tamale United (RTU) also made the list.

The ranking by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics has been done based on the performances of the clubs in their respective leagues and African competitions (CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup) within the years under review.

Coming in first as Ghana’s top-ranked club, Asante Kotoko is ranked 11th with 7365 points.

Hearts of Oak is followed as the second top Ghanaian club with 5785 points, leaving the side to occupy the 21st position.

The Black Stars have arrived in Johannesburg for their fifth round Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa. 

The contingent, led by GFA Vice President Mark Addo arrived at the OR Tambo Airport at 2am on Wednesday, March 23, 2021.

Other officials included Black Stars Management Committee chairman George Amoako, Deputy General Secretary, Alex Asante, Fred Pappoe, Black Stars management committee member, Ralph Gyambrah, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association and Samuel Osei Kuffuor, Management Committee Member. 

Ghana will take on South Africa on Thursday, March 2021 with a ticket to Cameroon 2022 being the ultimate target.

Both Ghana and South Africa have 9 points in Group C but Ghana have a superior goal advantage.

The game is scheduled for 6pm kick (4pm Gh Time) on Thursday, March 24, at the FNB stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg.

Asante Kotoko announce new sponsorship deal with Goil

Asante Kotoko have announced a partnership/sponsorship deal with a reputable energy giant, Goil.

The partnership/sponsorship will see Goil returning as the official energy partner for the one calendar year subject to renewal.

A statement signed by Diaspora and International Relations Manager, Dentaa Amoateng MBE, this mutually beneficial deal is a 66.5% improvement of the previous sponsorship deal.

Goil is the tenth sponsorship deal secured by Nana Yaw Amponsah since taking the Kotoko CEO job.

Joseph Esso wins Ghana Premier League Player of the Month for February

Joseph Esso has been named as NASCO Player of the Month for February.

The Dreams FC forward won the award after edging out Legon Cities’ Hans Kwoffie and Great Olympics midfielder Michael Yeboah.

Esso shone brightest in February after scoring six (6) goals with two Player of the match awards.

The forward took his total goal tally to ten (10) with his impressive scoring process in the month of February.

On the other hand, Hans Kwoffie also scored four goals with two MVP Awards while Michael Yeboah scored two goals with three MVP awards.

For his prize, Joseph Esso will receive a NASCO television and a personalised trophy from award sponsor Nasco.

Vladislav Viric wins Ghana Premier League Coach of the Month for February

Dreams FC Coach Vladislav Viric has been announced as the NASCO Coach of the Month for February.

Viric led the “Still Believe” lads to three home wins and one away with one defeat same as Samuel Boadu during his time at Medeama in February.

Viric however pipped the former Medeama coach to the award with his side scoring a total of thirteen (13) goals while Medeama scored seven (7) goals last month.

Berekum Chelsea’s Abu Abdul-Hanan also got a nomination after his team recorded three wins and a draw in February.

The Dreams FC coach now joins Joseph Asare Bediako, Henrik Lehm and Karela’s Augustine Evans Adotey as previous winners of the monthly award this season.

Black Stars depart Accra today for Afcon qualifier against South Africa [+ Full list]

The Black Stars will depart Accra for Johannesburg on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 for the match day five Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Twenty players are currently in camp in Accra with six others expected to arrive from Europe this evening.

Baba Abdul Rahman, Mohammed Kudus, Osman Bukari, Nicholas Opoku, Emmanuel Lomotey and Kwasi Okyere Wriedt will team up with the rest of the squad Monday tonight. Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori will also join his colleagues in Johannesburg Tuesday night.

Captain Andre Ayew, forward Jordan Ayew and midfielder Thomas Teye Partey who will not be part of the contingent to South Africa will join the squad later for the final game against Sao Tome and Principe.

Ghana will play South Africa on Thursday, March 25 in Johannesburg, before hosting Sao Tome and Principe in Accra.

The Black Stars sit at the top of Group C with 9 points after four games are in search of a ticket to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
