Brazilian striker Michael Vinícius Silva de Morais has arrived in Ghana to begin his new adventure at Asante Kotoko ahead of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season.

He touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Friday evening.

The Brazilian was met at the Kotoka International Airport by Kotoko’s CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah and Supporters chief Christopher Damenya.

Michael Vinícius penned down a two-and-half year deal with the Porcupine Warriors after reaching an agreement earlier this month.

Vinicius has had previous stints with Linkoping City and Vasalunds IF (Sweden).

He becomes the second Brazilian footballer to join the Kumasi-based club in the ongoing season after Fabio Gama dos Santos who was signed prior to the start of the season.

Vinicius likely partner Naby Keita or Sarfo Taylor.

Former Ghana midfielder, Yusif Alhassan Chibsah has sent a word of caution to Asante Kotoko players following the appointment of Portuguese coach Mariano Barreto as the club’s new coach.

According to Chibsah, the Kotoko players must follow the strict instructions of Barreto on and off the pitch or face being axed from the Reds’ side entirely.

Chibsah was a member of the Ghana U-23, the Black Meteors squad that Barreto last qualified to the Olympics Games in 2004 at Athens.

The former Black Stars trainer penned a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Porcupines Warriors on Friday, March 26, 2021.

However, the former Asante Kotoko midfielder who was one of the biggest beneficiaries of Barreto’s arrival in Ghana when he managed the Black Stars and the Black Meteors has advised that the players must stay discipline if they want to have a place in the Portuguese’s team.

“Mariano Barreto is a no-nonsense coach. He’s very strict,” Chibsah said in an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM.

“He selects his team on merits and his values are hard-work and discipline. He wants both disciplines on and off the pitch and will fine and punish all indiscipline players. He always wants his players to be fit. He doesn’t discriminate and has no favourites.”

The 64-year-old has also managed former Russian and Lithuanian topflight sides, Kuban Krasnodar and FC Stumbras respectively, and the Ethiopian national team.

Ghanaian heavyweight, Asante Kotoko have appointed Portuguese trainer Miguel Bruno as their new assistant coach and video analyst.

Miguel Bruno joins former Ghana coach Mariano Barretto on the technical team of the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the second round of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League.

Barrett has been confirmed as head coach of the side and is taking over from Abdulai Gazelle, who will act as assistant and youth team coach together with Johnson Smith.

Asante Kotoko finished the first round in fourth position and have a game in hand.

The topflight league is currently on break and will resume next month

Mariano Barretto and Miguel Bruno are the second set of coaches to join the club since the appointment of Nana Yaw Amponsah as CEO of the club.

The Porcupine Warriors have announced a new structure for the club’s Technical Team following the appointment of Portugues gaffer Mariano Barretto.

Barretto, a former Black Stars coach, will lead the technical department as he coach with Miguel Bruno as his deputy and also a video Analyst.

Former interim coach Johnson Smith will be an assistant coach in charge of the youth team same as Abdulai Gazale.-

Issah Najahu will be the club’s goalkeepers coach.

Portuguese trainer Pedro Manuel will work as the club’s new physical trainer/injury prevention coach.

Asante Kotoko SC have announced the appointment of Mariano Barreto as Head Coach on a renewable one-and-a-half contract.

Barreto is an experienced trainer, and is also familiar with Ghana, having handled the senior national team, the Black Stars in 2004.

Barreto is credited for starting the renaissance of the Black Stars in 2004 that led the country to her first World Cup in 2006.

The Portuguese former Youth Coach at Sporting CP, is also the last to have qualified the Ghana U23 team, Black Meteors, to the Olympics Games with the feat in the 2004 Athens Olympics.

He is renowned for his tactical prowess and has managed former Russian and Lithuanian topflight sides, Kuban Krasnodar and FC Stumbras respectively, and the Ethiopian national team.

The 64-year old gaffer is already in Ghana and is expected to touch down in Kumasi today.

Speaking on the impact Mariano Barreto is bringing, Acting Communications Manager, David Obeng said: “Coach Barreto is an experienced gaffer and we hope his stay with us will push Asante Kotoko to the next level.”
