Legon Cities gave their relegation survival a major boost by posting an impressive 2-0 victory over Aduana Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on matchday 26 of the Ghana Premier League Sunday afternoon.

The hosts took an early lead through a fantastic finish by Jonah Attuquaye from a glorious pass from Ghana U-23 midfielder Matthew Anim Cudjoe.

Black Stars defender Joseph Adjei scored a 56th-minute goal from the penalty spot to hand Bashir Hayford’s side a 2-0 lead.

The win has lifted Cities to 11th position on 32 points – 5 points away from the relegation zone.

The Royals empathic victory ends Aduana’s 3-game winning streak.

Medeama SC breathed life into their title hopes by narrowly edging AshantiGold 1-0 at the Akoon Park in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Mauves needed a 98th minute penalty from Prince Opoku Agyemang to seal the maximum points and keep their title hunt in sight.

Thomas Duah and his charges have been widely inconsistent in their last 5 games their form told as they slipped to yet another defeat.

The win has lifted Medeama to fourth place just behind Great Olympics who also on 43 points but, only with a superior head to head advantage.

Medeama coach Yaw Preko dropped Burkina Faso striker Ahmed Toure for the game while AshantiGold stop-gap coach Thomas Duah threw his best arsenal out in search for a win.

But, the results didn’t go in their favour as the Mauves earned a last-minute penalty to register their 12th win of the season.

Dreams FC showed great resilience as they defeated Bechem United 2-1 at the Theatre of Dreams in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Young striker Huzaf Ali registered the first goal of the game for the Believers with a 32nd minute goal strike but the visitors pulled parity through Charles Mensah.

But, Dreams are who are a high scoring side, grabbed the match winner through Huzaf who registered his third goal of the campaign for Dreams.

Bechem fought to equalise but Dreams defended steadily till the end of the game.

Asante Kotoko coach Mariano Barreto criticized his players for conceding what he describes as a ‘nonsense’ goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with WAFA in Obuasi.

Kotoko took an early lead when defender Abdul Ganiyu nicely converted a spot-kick after youngster Andy Kumi was fouled inside the box by goalkeeper Kofi Bonsu.

The Portuguese trainer felt his players failed to keep a close eye on the ball as striker Justus Torsutsey headed home from a cross from the right to secure the equalizer just before the break.

The draw cost the Porcupine Warriors a return to the top of the table after being toppled by Hearts who won 1-0 at Eleven Wonders on Friday.

”We started leading the game and we played well but in the last minute we take (conceded) a nonsense goal,” the former Black Stars coach told StarTimes.

”After the throw-in, the player [Justus Torsutsey] headed in front of the defenders and we trained these things a lot of time- the second attack of the ball and when these things happen, it affects us.

”We have lost the advantage that we have. We are on the same points with Hearts. It will be a long journey.

”We have eight matches and we have to learn with what happens and try to prepare for the next match.”

Kotoko currently sit second on the league log with 46 points, same as Hearts Of Oak but the Phobians have superior goal difference.

WAFA coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum says Asante Kotoko were lucky to have escaped defeat after his side rallied to draw 1-1 on Saturday in Obuasi.

The draw denied Kotoko top spot on the table after being toppled on Friday by rivals Hearts of Oak who beat Eleven Wonders 1-0 on the road.

”In fact we came here to beat them. The plan was not to draw or to lose,” the University lecturer told StarTimes in his post-match speech.

”We knew we were going to beat Kotoko because we had watched them against Dwarfs on TV, we had watched them against Liberty in our yard so we knew how they were going to play.

”Therefore we gave our players positional information about each Kotoko player how they play with the ball and how they play without the ball.

”So when we were coming here, we were very confident we were going to beat Kotoko but that’s the nature of the game.”

Medeama SC have a date with AshantiGold at the Akoon Park in Tarkwa on Sunday.

The mauve and yellows have not won a match since their home win against Ebusua Dwarfs on Sunday, May 2, 2021.

They sit in fifth place with 40 points – six points behind leaders Accra Hearts of Oak. A win for Medeama will help push their title charge.

Coach Yaw Preko is beginning to feel the heat with the side’s Premier League tit, le aspirations slipping through their hands.

Striker Amed Toure could be available for selection after returning to training following a slight injury.

He missed the side’s defeat at Dorma Ahenkro but could get his chance against the miners at the Akoon Park.

AshantiGold have endured an inconsistent second round – dropping the ninth with 34 points.

They ended a poor run of form to beat Great Olympics 1-0 last weekend.

Prior to that the Miners has gone three matches without a win, losing two and drawing one.

Midfielder David Abagna Sandan has found the back of the net in the last two home games. He is expected to inspire his side again this Sunday.

After back-to-back defeats, Great Olympics returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Inter Allies Saturday night to get their Ghana Premier League title challenge back on track.

It was a match-day 26 fixture that had the Dade Boys playing second best for the long spells and with few chances.

But giant striker Abdul Manan Mudasiru came off the bench to score for the third straight game, ensuring Great Olympics complete a season double over the visitors at the Accra Sports Stadium. They won 2-0 when Allies hosted them at the same venue in January.

Inter Allies got created decent scoring chances including a free-kick which saw goalkeeper Benjamin Asare parrying away Mohammed Zakari’s effort in the first half.

Olympics captain Gladson Awako had Emmanuel Igwe marking him out almost all game but when the star midfielder managed to get himself free, he provided a pre-assist to Maxwell Abbey who laid a pass for Mudasiru to finish off at the far end in the 76th minute.

Allies felt they should have been awarded a free-kick when Awako body-checked his marker to win possession in the lead-up to the goal but centre referee Isaac Osei deemed it as a legitimate challenge.

Great Olympics held on to the 1-0 lead for a first victory in three games and move into third place with 43 points, two above Karela United who visit Berekum Chelsea on Sunday

Inter Allies remain rooted to the foot of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League standings with 23 points from 26 games.

Despite dropping Razak Abalora for Felix Annan, Coach Mariano Barreto could only manage a draw against WAFA in their 1-1 home draw. It was their Ghana Premier League match day 26 fixture played at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.

Ismail Ganiu scored in the first minute to commence their fight for the top spot as early as the first minute. It was a penalty converted by the Central defender to keep the matchday 26 rolling.

The much tactical clash highlighted skills from the Academy Boys despite being hit with a lone goal. Coach Prosper Nertey maintained his approach to poise threat to the homers.

After the 30th minute mark, Asante Kotoko SC made some dangerous left-wing attack led by Imoro Ibrahim but Fabio Gama who was almost dangling could not get the best of the ball which was dealt with by WAFA shot-stopper Osei Bonsu.

Habib Mohammed and Ismail Ganiu were always on guide to defend their goal post, however, difficult WAFA lads wouldn’t stop attacking from both flanks.
Justus Torsutsey brought WAFA on level pegging in the stoppage time of the first half after his side made series of incursions. The well-deserving header beat Goalkeeper Felix Annan.

It was the former Sekondi Hasaacas FC forward fourth goal of the season since joining WAFA in the second transfer window.

The balance game began with high tension in the second half.

Both teams affected changes for the winning goal, with Solomon Sarfo Taylor and Latif Anabila enhancing Asante Kotoko SC attacking front but still could not stand the defence line of the visitors.

WAFA curtailed Andy Kumi and Imoro Ibrahim from making dangerous passes that can lead to a goal. It was a stunner to see the centre referee whistle to end throttling with Asante Kotoko SC sharing spoils with the Sogakope based outfit.

The draw leaves Asante Kotoko SC second on the league table with 46 points.

Hearts of Oak leads the table with goal difference since they have the same number of accumulated points.
