Kotoko’s Emmanuel Gyamfi gets Ghana FA ban

The Fabulous deputy skipper will miss one of their last two games of the season as he serves his ban

Ghana Football Association’s disciplinary committee has found Asante Kotoko deputy captain Emmanuel Gyamfi guilty and has been banned him for a match.

Gyamfi has also been fined GH1000.00 and has three days to make payments to the association’s secretariat.

The former Wa All Stars winger was charged for a breach of Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019. However, Gyamfi has the liberty to appeal to the ruling if he disagrees.

Gyamfi was summoned at the DC after he was caught on tape during the match between Inter Allies FC and Asante Kotoko at the Theatre of Dreams stamping player number 45 of Inter Allies (Andy Okpe) in an off-ball situation around the 65th minute of the game.

It is an action which in the opinion on the
association is improper and likely to bring the game into disrepute.

Emmanuel Gyamfi is found guilty of the Charges. A fine of GHc1,000 is hereby imposed on Emmanuel Gyamfi by Article 6.1(c) of the GFA Disciplinary Code That Emmanuel Gyamfi is hereby handed a one-match ban by Article 12(b) of the GFA Disciplinary Code. Emmanuel Gyamfi is warned that any future misconduct shall receive a more severe punishment.

MTN FA Cup R16: Asante Kotoko face Deportivo TODAY, Hearts of Oak battle Young Wise Wednesday

Holders Asante Kotoko will come face to face with Asokwa Deportivo in the Round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. The Porcupine Warriors last won the cup competition in 2017 after a 4-1 demolishing of Accra Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama stadium in Tamale.

Asante Kotoko have played in 13 finals and won the title 9 times.

Aduana FC will host AshantiGold SC in an all Premier League affair while Berekum Chelsea trek to neighboring Kintampo to face Division One League side Kintampo FC.

In the Southern Zone – record champions Accra Hearts of Oak have a date with Accra Young Wise at the theatre of Dreams, Dawu. Hearts of Oak are the highest scoring club in the competition thus far scoring seven and conceding one. The Phobians beat Liberty Professionals 3-0 in the Round of 64 before smashing Windy Professionals 4-1 in the Round of 32.

Two- time winners Medeama SC return home to play Accra Great Olympics in the battle of former champions.

WOMEN’S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TOURNAMENT: Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies pitched against River Angels & AS Police de Niamey

Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies have been drawn in group B along side Rivers Angels of Nigeria and AS Police de Niamey of Niger in the first WAFU-B Zonal qualifier of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The draw ceremony supervised by WAFU administrative secretary Boureima Balima in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.

Group A has Onze Soeurs de Gagnoa OF Cote d’Ivoire, Union Sportive des forces Armees of Burkina Faso and Amis du Monde Football Club of Togo also battling out for a spot.

The WAFU-B will be the only zone to produce two teams at the final tournament in Egypt, as the region has the urge as the home of the reigning champions of the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations, Nigeria.

2020/21 GPL: Match Report – Osei Baffour scores to hand Aduana Stars win over former club AshantiGold

Aduana FC recorded a gritty 1-0 victory over AshantiGold in their delayed Ghana Premier League match-day 32 fixture Monday morning.

The game, originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, had to be rescheduled after rains rendered the Nana Agyeman Badu (NAB) I Stadium field unplayable.

It was barren for greater spells of the game until coach Joseph Asare Bediako decided to throw in former AshantiGold player Emmanuel Osei Bafffour for Samuel Bioh in the 67th minute.

And 9 minutes later, the diminutive attacker scored the match decider for Aduana.

The Miners tried but failed to pull level and avoid their 11th defeat in 32 matches this campaign.

Aduana FC, by the win, climb three places into 5th position with 49 points. They share the same points with Great Olympics but edge the Accra-based club via the head-to-head rule.

DOL: Bibiani Gold Stars just a point away from historic Ghana Premier League qualification

We are almost at the end of the 2020/21 Division One League (DOL) season and with three matches left to the conclusion, Bibiani Gold Stars are a point away from securing promotion to Ghana’s top-flight.

Gold Stars lead Zone two with 61 points after 27 games played so far. With just three games to end the season, the Bibiani-based club have a great chance of making their first Premier League appearance.

Gold Stars have shown dexterity and character all season winning 18 – drawing 7 and recording two defeats in 27 matches. They remain the only side in the entire Ghanaian first and second-tier football to amass over 60 points with the season yet to end.

They have scored an impressive 39 goals and conceded 11 in the process with Prince Kwabena Owusu as their leading scorer in the Zone with 18 goals.

Gold Stars will have the opportunity to commemorate their first promotion into the Ghana Premier League next weekend in front of their supporters as they host Pacific Heroes at the Dun’s Park in Bibiani.

Gold Stars, 61, are 8 points ahead of second-placed Skyy FC who have 53 points with three matches remaining, a point or three in their next game against Pacific Heroes to walk into the ‘table of men’ where ‘kings and Queens dine’ with Division one league expert Coach Kobina Amissah who has raised the standards in Ghanaian Football coaching with a remarkable record of qualifying 5 different teams from a lower tier to the top tier.

Gold Stars will wrap up their season with an away game against Samartex before playing Wassaman in the final game at home in matchweek 30.

Gameweek 27 of the Division One league saw some exciting games played across the various match centers.

In Zone One, a solitary Welbeck Takyi strike handed Bofoakwa Tano a 1-0 victory against Crocodile Stars. The highly anticipated game between BA United and RTU ended abruptly after fans of BA United attacked the referee for awarding RTU a penalty.

The Tamale derby between Steadfast and Tamale City ended 1-1. Berekum Arsenal defeated Wa Suntaa 2-1 to continue their haunt for a return to the Premier league. Unity FC defeated Nkoranza Warriors 1-0, whiles Yendi Gbewaa and Young Apostles played out a 1-1 draw.

In Zone Two, Bibiani Goldstars were held to a scoreless draw by Venomous Vipers. Sekondi Hasaacas defeated Proud United 1-0. New Edubiase defeated Skyy Fc 3-2 to derail their hopes of qualifying to the elite league.

Swedru All Blacks came from a goal down to beat BYF Academy 3-1. Nzema Kotoko handed Samartex a 1-0 defeat at the Azulealanu park. At the Agogo Collins Park, Pacific Heroes and Wassaman played out a 0-0 draw. The game between Achiken and Unistar didn’t come on due to heavy rains.

In Zone Three, Accra Lions returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory against Okyeman Planners. In Agbozume, Tema Youth were surprisingly held to 1-1 draw by strugglers Agbozume Weavers. Dabort and Krystal Palace played out a 1-1 draw.

Kotoku Royals defeated Nania FC 2-1, Vision and Uncle T. played a scoreless stalemate, whiles Mighty Jets picked a 2-1 away victory against Accra City.

2020/21 GPL: Match Report – Hearts Of Oak hold Ebusua Dwarfs, set to win first league title in a decade with next win

Hearts of Oak can clinch their first league title in over a decade with their next win after drawing 1-1 away to Ebusua Dwarfs on match-day 32 of the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Sunday night.

The Phobians head into the final two games of the campaign three points and the head-to-head advantage in their favour over second-placed Asante Kotoko.

Relegation-threatened Dwarfs were determined to secure all three points at Cape Coast Sports Stadium and boost their survival chances.

Captain Denis Korsah appeared to deliver that when he broke the deadlock with a free-kick routine in the 83rd minute.

But Dwarfs were left stunned in the third minute of stoppage time by the unrelenting league leaders through striker Kwadwo Obeng Jnr. who equalized with his 10th goal of the campaign.

The 1-1 stalemate meant Hearts maintain their three-point gap with title rivals Kotoko who also recorded the same scoreline at home to King Faisal on Saturday.

Ebusua Dwarfs, meanwhile, are 14th in the league standings and just a point above the drop zone.

The Police should take the lion’s share of the blame in the increasing cases of insecurity in Ghana football. I understand why the top brass of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) don’t like criticism that they are in slumber as the Police on security issues.

Based on my insights on efforts of the GFA in ensuring security at match venues, there’s evidence to show that, the FA is committed to the safety and security of all at matches but that is just not enough. It’s not enough because nothing seems to be changing positively relative to security in spite of the GFA’s effort. Insecurity at some venues is threatening to destabilise the quest to reignite our passion for the game.

I have no intent to slam the GFA or the Police for nothing. My Facebook publication that, the GFA and the Police are asleep on security matters may not have gone too well for some people but it doesn’t negate the overriding point that, we risk losing precious lives once again if we do act decisively on violence in our game.

The GFA has sanctioning referees, fining and suspending club officials besides banning riotous venues. So, why the increasing incidents of violence? We aren’t confronting the problem head-on: Arresting, prosecuting and jailing hooligans have been missing entirely in addressing the canker of football violence.

Take the recent case of fans invading the pitch and chasing the referee in the B. A. United vs Real Tamale United (RTU) game at the Coronation Park, Sunyani on Sunday. Police, in video clips, were seen running after fans who beat the referee for a perceived wrong penalty call. Later, RTU would be escorted out of Sunyani amidst warning shots (fired from the bucket of police pickup vehicle) ostensibly to wade off fans outside the Park who were pelting the RTU bus with stones.

I don’t know if there were arrests but from past incidents we’ve had no arrests, prosecution or incarceration of culprits. Indeed, where arrests were made, either club officials pleaded with the Police for the release of suspects or they refused to corporate with police. The case of Mighty Royals comes to mind. Two club officials, the CEO and Assistant coach, both assaulted the referee with the CEO even threatening to kill the referee. This was in March this year. Months after the GFA fined and banned these individuals, no police action has been taken against them although they are known club officials in Wanamafo. There’s also video evidence of their assault on the referee.

Why won’t the Police arrest them for investigation? Why won’t others be emboldened for lawlessness at venues, when they know, after GFA sanctions, which is very minimal to that of the state, Police will take no action against them? Our police stand accused on football violence. We can’t completely eliminate hooliganism from the but where social misfits or rogues parading as fans or officials become lawless and the state show little or no interest in punishing them as required by law, lives are likely to be lost.

Further, our game risks losing growth or developmental opportunities. These should worry everyone in the game. For now, I neither envy the GFA President, Kurt Okraku nor do I really understand the police inaction on hooliganism. I only sympathize with all who have invested in Ghana football. There’s a lot to be lost if decisive actions aren’t taken on football violence.

2020/21 GPL: Match Report – Berekum Chelsea secure win over Dreams FC at Dawu

Berekum Chelsea secured a home and away Ghana Premier League (GPL) double over Dreams FC thanks to a 1-0 win at Dawu Sunday afternoon.

The Bibires, in the 2020/21 campaign, have proven a thorn in the flesh of their hosts after applying the breaks on their run of games without defeat for the second time.

Berekum Chelsea narrowly beat Dreams 1-0 when they first met this season at Golde City Park in a match-day 15 fixture last February, halting their overall run of 8 unbeaten games.

Meeting again on match-day 32 at Dwau Park, Dreams FC hoped to preserve their new run of 7 home games without defeat.

But midfielder Collins Ameyaw had other ideas as he stunned the Bibires with the only goal of the game in first-half stoppage time.

Dreams FC huffed and puffed in their bid to salvage the game but Berekum Chelsea reigned supreme to make it two wins from two against their hosts this season.

Berekum Chelsea are currently 10th in the standings with 40 points, 8 adrift 6th-placed Dreams FC.
