Hearts of Oak have announced a 22-man squad list for the 2022 President Cup game against Asante Kotoko on Friday evening.

Patrick Razak has made a return to Coach Samuel Boadu’s matchday squad list alongside Yaw Amankwah Baafi and William Opoku Aseidu.

The club’s leading top scorer, Kofi Kordzi has been dropped from the squad while Frederick Ansah Botchway misses the game due to illness.

2022 President’s Cup: Check out Asante Kotoko’s squad list for Hearts of Oak clash on Friday

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum, has named a strong squad for their President Cup game against Hearts of Oak on Friday evening.

The Porcupines will be hoping to clinch the trophy at the expense of their rivals to keep their fine run of form in the Premier League.

The squad comprises of all the players of the Porcupines including the injured ones joined the team to Accra for the big game.

A total of 32 contingent made the trip to Accra on Wednesday evening.

Dr Ogum is in Accra with the following players for the Hearts encounter later today.

FA Cup Quarter-Final draw: Liverpool & Chelsea dodge Premier League opposition

Liverpool and Chelsea were both handed ties against Championship sides in Thursday’s FA Cup quarter-final draw.

Nottingham Forest or Huddersfield Town, who play each other on Monday night, will host Liverpool in round six.

Meanwhile, Chelsea must win at Middlesbrough if they are to progress to the semi-finals at Wembley.

England manager Gareth Southgate conducted Thursday’s draw.

Crystal Palace were the first team he drew out of the bowl of numbered balls as Southgate gave his former club a home clash with either Everton or Boreham Wood.

After Liverpool and Chelsea were given trips to lower-league teams, Manchester City were also handed an away quarter-final.

Pep Guardiola’s City will go to Southampton in the last eight.

The quarter-final matches are set to take place over the weekend of March 19 and 20.

Replays at this stage of the FA Cup are a thing of the past, so these quarter-finals will be settled by extra time and penalties if there is no winner after 90 minutes.

Middlesbrough have been the chief giant-killers in this season’s FA Cup. They beat Manchester United in a penalty shootout at Old Trafford in round four, before adding Tottenham to their list of victims earlier this week.

Chelsea are the most successful club left in the competition. The Blues are eight-time winners, with only Arsenal (14) and Man United (12) having won more FA Cups.

Afena-Gyan denies he’s been demoted to AS Roma U-19  

A source close to Ghanaian teenager Felix Afena-Gyan has debunked reports that he had been demoted to AS Roma Under-19, and that he may play in Roma’s next game.  

Reports emerged on Tuesday that the enterprising youngster had been demoted to AS Roma’s Primavera (U19 team) after being spotted at a nightclub on the night he missed the Serie A game against Spezia due to a hip injury.  

According to the report, Afena-Gyan’s decision to go out with friends, including Primavera’s mates, to the nightclub angered head coach Jose Mourinho and the rest of the technical team after the player returned to the Giallorossi camp after dawn.

But footy.ghpush.com/'s well-placed sources indicate that the Ghanaian striker has not been demoted as widely reported in the media. 

“It is true that the player went out and the technical team got infuriated. But I can confirm to you that it’s not true that Afena-Gyan has been demoted to the U19 team of AS Roma. It was a punishment. He was part of the senior team for a photoshoot today,” a source close to the player told footy.ghpush.com/  

footy.ghpush.com/ sources indicate that Afena-Gyan may be playing in AS Roma's next game, which is against Atalanta in Serie A on Saturday.  

Afena-Gyan has been referenced as Mourinho’s son after the Portuguese coach took the teenager under his wings. The former Inter Milan coach gave him the Balenciaga shoes he wanted so much after his brace at Genoa. Mourinho also spent New Year’s Eve with the striker.  

Afena Gyan, since being promoted from Roma’s Primavera, has made 14 senior appearances and scored two goals.

CAF announces final dates for 2022 World Cup Qualifying playoffs

The Confederation of African Football has announced the final dates of the 2022 World Cup qualifying playoff.

CAF confirmed on Thursday the first leg of the last round will be played on 25th March with the return leg set for 29th March.

“The first leg of the last round is scheduled for 25 March 2022, while the second leg matches will be held on 29 March 2022, four days later,” a statement from CAF read.

Chief Executive Officer of Databank Group, Kojo Addae-Mensah has cautioned Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to use his reserve team to play Hearts of Oak in Friday’s President Cup game.

The Premier League record holders, Kotoko on Friday evening take on defending champions, Hearts of Oak in an Independence Cup game at the Accra Sports Stadium to honour the sitting president, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Porcupines fortnights ago at the same venue held the Phobians to a goalless drawn game in a Premier League game in what was the first Super Clash of the season.

Ogum’s men currently lead the Premier League table with 40 points with Hearts of Oak languishing on the 7th position with 26 points.

Speaking to Ashh FM in an interview, Kojo Addae-Mensah who is a renowned football analyst and a die-hard Porcupines has shared that he would prefer Asante Kotoko does not use its first team for the game on Friday.

According to him, the Reds are in fine form in the Ghana Premier League and must prioritize the title.

“Kotoko should use their second-string side for the President’s Cup against Hearts,” Kojo Addae Mensah said.

He believes that the first team should be allowed to rest to be fresh for upcoming matches in the Premier League.

Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has promised Legon Cities youngster Osman Amadu football boots and money for scoring against Hearts of Oak.

The youngster came from the bench on Saturday to score in the final minutes of the game to earn Legon Cities a point against Hearts of Oak.

After the game, the youngster recorded a video expressing his delight for scoring against one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.

“My name is Osman Amadu and I’m very excited that a small and fine boy like me from Division Two has played and scored against a big club like Hearts of Oak. It’s big news for me, my family and my village Bonsu Nkwanta. I know you people are happy watching me,” the youngster said in the video.

The comments from Osman Amadu in the video has excited Agyemang Badu who has promised to gift him football boots and money. The former Black Stars midfielder promised him more should he score against Asante Kotoko.

“I will give Legon Cites player Osman Amadu boots and some money for scoring against Hearts of Oak,” Agyemang Badu said on Atinka FM.

“I’m excited for the comments in the video he shared about his home town Bonsu Nkwanta and I will support him.

“If he score against Asante Kotoko I will still give him money,” he added.

Osman Amadu will get the opportunity to play against Asante Kotoko in Gameweek 26 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in April.

Meet CK Akonnor’s first son Kadmiel Akonnor who is a musician

Kadmiel Akonnor who is a son of former Black Stars player and coach Charles Akonnor has turned out to be a musician.

Unlike his father, who discovered his football talent at a very young age, Kadmiel has found love in music and has stuck to it.

Performing under the stage name KadMiELLi, the son of the Ghanaian football legend believes his father made no mistake naming him after a biblical Levite singer.

Despite starting as a footballer, the 22-year-old afrobeats singer realized the football pitch was not his thing and told CK Akonnor about it.

“I played a couple of teams in Ghana and abroad but I realized that wasn’t my thing. Growing up I saw it that was not where my passion was so I informed him and he said cool,” Kadmielli said in an interview with Hitz FM.

The son of the former Ghana player disclosed that his father gave him his blessings after ditching football to switch to music.

Since becoming a musician, Kadmielli’s journey has not been rosy but slowly taking his path to greatness.

Kadmielli as he is also called in Showbiz released his first song in August 2021 titled ‘Like I Do’.

The musician doubled up and recently released his debut EP titled ‘Shuttle To Mars’

Kadmielli is the first son of the former Wolfsburg player who has 5 children. His other brother Charles Jesaja Herrmann who is a footballer plays for KV Kortrijk in the German Jupiler Pro League 21/22.

CK Akonnor was once captain of Ghana’s senior national team and was part of Ghana’s U-20 side that finished runner up at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 1993.

After quitting football, Akonnor became a coach and succeeded in leading Asante Kotoko to win the GFA Normalization Committee Special Competition and qualifying the Black Stars to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Center-forward Kofi Kordzi has not been included in Hearts of Oak’s final squad for the President Cup against bitterest rivals Asante Kotoko on Friday.

The Phobians will take on the Porcupine Warriors in the 12th edition of the cup played in honor of the sitting president on Friday, March 5 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ahead of the game, local portals report that Kordzi has not been included in the squad for the game. However, the reason behind his exclusion hasn’t been revealed.

Kofi Kordzi has struggled for playing minutes in recent weeks, failing to start any of the club’s last 5 games.

Despite the lack of playing minutes, Kordzi is Hearts of Oak’s top scorer in all competitions this season with 9 goals from 19 games.

Meanwhile, Patrick Razak has been included in the squad for the President Cup. The winger hasn’t been in the match-day since November 2021 against AshantiGold.

Ghana forward Emmanuel Gyasi extends his contract with Spezia Calcio

Ghana international, Emmanuel Gyasi has extended his stay at Spezia Calcio.

The 28-year-old forward’s last contract signed in December 2020 was due to expire in June 2023.

The new deal to the club will expire on June 30, 2025 according to the club’s statement.

The Ghanaian international has in total made 139 appearances and also recorded 17 assists and 22 goals for the club.

“I am very happy to have signed this renewal. Now maximum concentration to achieve salvation. I thank the club for the trust placed in me and as always I will do everything to repay it on the field,” Gyasi said after signing the contract renewal.

The President, Philip Platek is also satisfied: “Emmanuel Gyasi is a symbol of this team is an example to follow for all young people. Abnegation, commitment, seriousness, combined with undisputed athletic and technical skills, are just some of his qualities and we are proud to be able to announce today his renewal of him”.
