Samuel Boadu not satisfied with Hearts of Oak display despite FA Cup win over Skyy FC

Hearts of Oak coach Samuel Boadu expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance against Skyy FC despite securing a 1-0 win at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday.

With the narrow victory, the Phobians advanced to the MTN FA Cup semi-finals.

“My team’s performance wasn’t good at all though we managed to get one goal. It is always difficult playing against Division One League teams,” Boadu said in an interview with StarTimes.

Boadu also praised Patrick Razak, who scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute after coming on as a substitute.

Razak scored the decisive goal after receiving an intelligent pass from Gladson Awako.

As a result, the Phobians are still on track to successfully defend the trophy they won last season and end the current campaign with a trophy.

Razak, the hero in the President’s Cup victory over Asante Kotoko, finished brilliantly 24 minutes from time.

It was a fantastic team move that resulted in the goal, which the Phobians deserved having dominated the game from the start.

Skyy FC’s home ground in Daboase has been closed due to hooliganism, so the match was played at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The second-tier team struggled in a new environment.

Hearts of Oak join other top-flight clubs Bechem United, Aduana Stars and Dreams FC in the semi-finals.

The Phobians will face Dreams FC while Bechem take on Aduana in the other clash.

The FA Cup final will be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

Former Black Stars winger Yaw Preko does not think Portugal Captain Cristiano Ronaldo will be a threat to Ghana at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana has been pitted in Group H of the mundial, scheduled for November, with rivals Uruguay, Portugal and South Korea.

Ronaldo and Suarez are widely viewed as the two big names for Portugal and Uruguay, who could hurt the Black Stars chances of qualifying to the knockout stage.

But, based on his current dip in form at Manchester United, Preko doesn’t expect Ronaldo to be danger-man but was quick to add that he could make an impact only if the players around him are dangerous.

“I don’t see Ronaldo as a threat but the players around him. Since he came to Manchester United, you can see that physically and psychologically, he is not the same but the players around him are dangerous,” Preko told Graphic Sports.

Asante Kotoko midfielder Salifu Mudasiru is set to leave the club when his current contract expires in June, according Sportsworldghana’s report.

Mudasiru joined Kotoko on a three-year contract in June 2019, and there have been no talks about an extension as the contract nears its end.

Since the start of last season, Salifu has established himself as one of the truly best players in the Ghana Premier League.

This season, he has been instrumental in Kotoko’s impressive run in the top flight. The Porcupines have a good chance of winning the league.

They have an eight-point lead at the top with ten games remaining, having faced the majority of the difficult teams.

The 25-year-old has one goal and one assist in 21 league games for Kotoko.

Mudasiru is worth €125,000, which is more than one million Ghana cedis, according to transfermarkt.

GFA Boss in Europe to meet Dortmund over Otto Addo appointment

Ghana FA Boss Kurt Okraku is in Europe to hold talks with Borussia Dortmund, Aston Villa and Nordsjaelland over the possible appointment of Otto Addo, George Boateng and Didi Dramani on a contract, at least until the 2022 World Cup.

This was disclosed by GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, who explained that the recruitment process begins with a negotiation with the trio over their willingness to be re-engaged on contracts to serve in the Black Stars.

The GFA secured a short-term arrangement with the three European clubs to have Otto, Boateng and Didi released to Coach the Black Stars for the Qatar 2022 qualifying play-off against Nigeria.

After supervising the Black Stars qualification to the mundial at the expense of the Super Eagles, most Ghanaian fans and the President Nana Akufo-Addo have called on the GFA to maintain the technical team, including Technical Advisor Chris Hughton for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the 2022 World Cup.

“The first move is to discuss with Otto Addo, George Boateng and Didi Dramani before discussing with their employers, and we are doing that. The GFA President (Kurt Okraku) is still in Europe and I’m sure he will come back with good news,” Asante Twum told GTV Sports.

However, reports say Otto Addo has reached an agreement with the GFA to sign a new deal as Black Stars Coach until the end of 2022.

Eintracht Frankfurt held on to beat Barcelona 3-2, 4-3 on aggregate to advance to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Frankfurt had a good start at Nou Camp and were pinning Barcelona in their own half. Eric Garcia wrestled down Jesper Lindstrom in the penalty area. Garcia got a yellow card for his troubles, and deservedly so, as his right arm was wrapped around Lindstrom’s shoulder and neck. Garcia is suspended for yellow card accumulation should Barcelona eventually advance.

Flip Kostic stepped up to take it and made no mistake as he delivered with a low-slotted effort past ter Stegen to set the significant German contingent amongst the crown into delirium.

Barcelona had responded well after the early opener, but it had all fallen apart! It’s Rafael Borre who did it all, cutting in from the left and letting loose from a good distance outside the top of the box. Nobody closed him down, and ter Stegen should be saving from that distance out, it was a mystery why he was so far from the effort.

It went from bad to worse for Barcelona as Frankfurt netted the third goal through Filip Kostić who received a beautiful pass from Kamada on the left side of the box before unleashing a shot past Barca’s keeper.

Inside the last five minutes, Barcelona pulled one back through Sergio Busquets, who flicked in the ball past Frankfurt’s keeper. However, after a quick VAR check, the goal was disallowed for an offside.

In the 92nd minute, Busquests scored another goal, a screamer from outside the box and that stood.

N’Dicka was sent off for a tackle on De Jong with Barcelona being awarded a penalty. Memphis Depay stepped up and converted from the spot but it was a little to late for the Catalans.

Olympique Lyonnais 0-3 West Ham United

West Ham United advanced to the semi-finals of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 3-0 victory, 4-1 on aggregate against Lyonnais at Groupama Stadium.

West Ham United meant business in the return leg with Craig Dawson giving the visitors the lead in the 38th minute. With a minute to halftime, Declan Rice doubled the lead for the north London side, putting David Moyes’ men in complete control of the second leg.

The Hammers picked from where they left as they grabbed their third immediately at the start of the second half thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s strike.

Frankfurt will now face West Ham in the last four of the tournament.

The group was led by Dickson. Kwaku Amponsah made the donation to the club on Thursday after the club defeated Skyy FC 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2021/22 MTN FA Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The items presented to the club included two cartons of Milo, two cartons of milk, and three cartons of Vitamilk.

Hearts of Oak have progressed to the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup with a slender 1-0 win over lower division side Skyy FC at the Accra Sports Stadium, to keep alive their ambition of defending the title.

It took substitute Patrick Razak just 16 minutes on the pitch to give the Phobians the match-winner after coming off the bench to replace Kofi Kordzi in the 50th minute.

Razak struck the ball into the back of the net after receiving a clever pass from Gladson Awako, moments after the speedster saw an initial scoring chance saved by Skyy FC goalkeeper Solomon Nimo.

The victory means the Rainbow club will face Dreams FC in the last four of the knockout competition, while Aduana Stars do battle with Bechem United for a place in the FA Cup final scheduled for the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi later this year.

Salisu named Nigeria Assistant Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation has named Salisu Yusuf as the first Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles, as efforts are being made to conclude processes for the appointment and contract-signing of the in-coming Head Coach.

Salisu was named alongside other Assistant Coaches Finidi George and Usman Abdallah. Ike Shorounmo will be the Goalkeeper’s Trainer.

The Nigeria Head Coach role has been vacant since March 31 following a decision by the NFF to dissolve the Augustine Eguavoen led technical team, that failed to secure qualification to the Qatar 2022 World Cup at the expense of Ghana’s Black Stars.

Jose Peseiro, Ernesto Valverde, Anthony Conceicao and Laurent Blanc have been shortlisted as prospective contenders for the Super Eagles job, with the new Head Coach expected to be announced next week.

Hearts penalty protest case set for Tuesday

The Ghana FA Match Review Panel will convene on Tuesday, April 19 to re-examine the penalty decision awarded to Asante Kotoko in the recent Ghana Premier League Super Clash, in line with Hearts of Oak’s protest.

This was confirmed by Ghana FA Referees Manager Alex Kotei, who claims he has had little sleep following the controversial decision by Referee Joseph Kenney Padi in the GPL match-day 24 fixture in Kumasi.

“I didn’t sleep after the Kotoko vs Hearts game, the calls were many, I’ve decided not to comment on the game, especially after Hearts complained to the GFA reviews committee. They will sit on the case on Tuesday so let’s see,” Alex Kotei told Accra based Angel FM.

Hearts of Oak filed a protest to the Ghana FA on Tuesday, April 12 asking that the GFA Review Committee takes a second look at the penalty decision and take immediate action against Referee Padi to deter other match officials from exercising poor discretion in decision making during games. Hearts of Oak firmly believe Abdul Aziz Nurudeen’s tackle on Fabio Gama in the penalty box did not warrant a penalty.

The reigning Ghana Premier League champions fell 16 points behind 52 points rich Kotoko following Sunday’s slender 0-1 defeat at the Baba Yara Stadium. Hearts of Oak currently occupy the 6th spot on the GPL log sheet with 36 points.
