Prosper Narteh names Asante Kotoko starting lineup to face RTU

Asante Kotoko head coach, Prosper Narteh Ogum has named his men for the Premier League clash against Real Tamale United this afternoon.

The Reds visit the Premier League returnees at the Aliu Mahama with Ogum making two changes to his squad that played against Hearts of Oak last weekend for the week 24 clash.

Sheriff Mohammed maintains his place in midfield and will partner Richard Boadu and Fabio Gama in a three-man midfield.

The attack will see Georges Mfegue operating from the right side with Samuel Boateng starting on the left with Mbella Etouga leading the lines.

Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has offered an emotional tribute to Michael Osekre, praising the outstanding Chief of Staff’s “amazing” role in the country’s qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Ghanaian FA president has heaped admiration on his ‘right-hand man’ and his significant behind-the-scenes contribution to the country’s fourth World Cup appearance in the Gulf.

Osekre, the President of second-tier team Vision FC and a successful businessman, is widely regarded as the FA capo’s conjoined twin.

Mr Okraku’s election as FA president in October 2019 was aided by the savvy freight forwarder and foreign player-manager.

Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku, the Ghana FA’s president, has lavished praise on his team.

“We’ve had amazing people praying for us on this journey to stardom. We’ve had people (in reference to Michael Osekre) going out of their way to do extraordinary things,” Okraku told GVT Sports Plus.

“For the first time, I want to say thank you to my Chief of Staff for all the support. Thank you Michael Osekre.”

There is a lot to pick out as ties that bind Vision FC President Michael Osekre and Ghana FA chief President Kurt Okraku in what is a strong union between two men who share an unbridled love for football.

How Asante Kotoko could lineup against RTU in Tamale

There will be obviously new faces in Kotoko’s starting line up against the relegation threatened side

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Ogum Narteh is expected to make at least two changes in his starting line up against Real Tamale United this afternoon at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

Following Kotoko’s slim victory over Hearts of Oak last weekend, the Porcupine Warriors are hoping to stretch the lead at the top especially since Bechem United are sit in second place are also traveling to the dreadful Ohene Ameyaw Park in Techiman to face Eleven Wonders.

However, with Christopher Nettey suspended due to accumulated yellow cards, Augustine Agyapong is expected to start to fill the void while goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim may be benched for Kwame Baah.

Apart from Agyapong coming in, it is not likely to have any change in defence and attack but there may be some changes in midfield especially with roles assigned to some players.

Imoro Ibrahim and Mudasiru will be the captains for the day since Ganiu is still out injured and would need more time to recover.

Patrick Asmah and Stephen Amankona are expected to have some game time against RTU.

Asante Kotoko will seek to extend their lead at the top of the Ghana Premier League table when they visit Real Tamale United on Sunday.

The Porcupines have enjoyed a stellar campaign so far under coach Prosper Narteh Ogum as they sit top of the table with 52 points, 8 above second-place Bechem United.

For the host, Sunday’s game could be crucial for maintaining their premier league status.

RTU sit 16th on the league table with 25 points and could drop further if they lose to Asante Kotoko.

However, the host is unbeaten at home in their last 8 matches, 3 wins and 5 draws and will hope to take a point at least from their matchday 25 clash.

The last time Kotoko travelled to play RTU away was in 2013 when they won 1-2.

Kotoko’s away form in recent times could offer a glimmer of hope for the host as Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum’s have managed just one win in their last six, their only victory coming against King Faisal on Matchday 24.

While both teams can use maximum points from the clash to enhance their respective positions in the league, it is Real Tamale United that needs it more but do they have the men to deliver?

The match is scheduled for 3 PM at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.

The Porcupines at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Sunday afternoon will visit the Premier League returnees.

The team is already in Tamale and trained on Saturday afternoon.

Andrews Appau has returned to the team with Christopher Nettey out with card accumulations.

The attack have Dickson Afoakwa back in the team after his injury recovery together with Clinton Opoku.

FIFA U-17 WWCQ: Black Maidens secure big win over Guinea in Conakry

On Saturday afternoon at the Stade Général Lansana Conté de Nongo in Conakry, the Black Maidens of Ghana defeated Guinea 3-1 in the first leg of the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2022 qualifier.

In the 13th minute, captain Georgina Ayisha Aoyem put the visitors ahead, while Rassheeda Shahadu scored the second goal for the maidens in the 31st minute with her strong left foot.

The Guineans cut the score in half after the break in the 53rd minute, but the visitors maintained their two-goal advantage with Mariama Maltiti’s goal in the 59th minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his second hat-trick in three Premier League games to boost Manchester United’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League at the expense of relegation-threatened Norwich at Old Trafford.

Knowing victory would take them within three points of the top four, Ronaldo appeared to have put United in control when he scored twice in the opening 32 minutes.

However, appalling defending from the hosts either side of the interval allowed Norwich to equalise through Kieran Dowell and Teemu Pukki and for a while Dean Smith’s side looked the more likely winners.

But after Ralf Rangnick had abandoned his bold tactic of playing without a recognised ball-winner in midfield and replaced Paul Pogba with Juan Mata, Ronaldo drove a free-kick home off the inside of a post 14 minutes from time to secure victory.

The 37-year-old is now on 15 Premier League goals for the season, trailing only Mo Salah and Son Hueng-min in the standings. He has also moved on to 99 career Premier League goals.

United can move level on points with fourth-placed Spurs if they win at Liverpool on Tuesday.

For Norwich the outcome was a major blow to their faint hopes of avoiding the drop. The Canaries are now seven points behind fourth-bottom Everton, having played two games more and with only six matches to do something about it.

Ronaldo the hero again

It’s a question without an answer, but it keeps being posed nevertheless: is Ronaldo the cause of United’s problems or the solution?

On this occasion, he was certainly the latter.

Not that he had to do much for his first goal. Ben Gibson was dispossessed in his own penalty area as Norwich tried to move the ball forward from a goal-kick, allowing Anthony Elanga to find Ronaldo who applied the first-time finish.

Ronaldo’s second was one of the towering headers he has produced so often down the years, climbing highest to reach Alex Telles’ corner and power past Tim Krul.

The winner was typical of the man. With the pressure on and all eyes trained on him, Ronaldo puffed his chest out after Elanga had been fouled on the edge of the area, ran up and belted his shot into the net off the inside of a post.

It was a quite sensational effort and brought a crowd simmering with discontent to their feet.

‘Princesses need adequate preparation for World Cup’ – Rosalind Amoh

Vice Chairperson of the Ghana Women’s Premier League Committee, Rosalind Amoh expects the Ghana FA to invest in the adequate preparations of the Black Princesses, to ensure the team breaks the jinx of consistent failure to advance past the group stage of the of FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Coach Ben Fokuo’s side booked a sixth qualification to the World Cup after edging out Ethiopia 5-1 on aggregate over two legs. But, the Princesses have just 3 months and 24 days to fine-tune their readiness for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica, which kicks off on August 10.

Ghana has enjoyed five World Cup appearances between 2010 and 2018, with the Princesses unable to progress to the knockout stage of the global soccer event.

“The preparation for the competition has always been our bane. We’ve never gone past the group stage and it’s all because of our preparations and the kind of teams we got,” Rosalind Amoh, a Veteran Journalist, said on TV3’s Sports Show – Warm Up+ on Saturday.

“As for the qualification, we will always qualify. The only teams that may pose a threat to us will be the East Africans and now South Africans. What we need to give the team is the recognition, motivation and preparation,” She concluded.

Though it may seem unrealistic, GFA Boss Kurt Okraku has disclosed in a recent interview with GTV Sports+ that the vision of the nation’s football governing body is for the Black Princesses to win the trophy in Costa Rica.

Following widespread rumours that he would be playing for Ghana at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Ghanaian teenager Tariq Lamptey admits he is undecided about his future with the Black Stars.

According to the right back, who currently plays for Brighton and Hove Albion in the English Premier League, he is unsure and prefers to concentrate on club football.

He claims that he needs to take things one game at a time and then see what the future holds.

“I’m not sure yet. I’ve to just keep focusing on my club football”, the English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion youngster stated.

“I’ve to take it game by game and then we’ll see,” Tariq Lamptey told Ghanasoccernet.

The Ghanaian has been impressive for the English Premier League side this season.

President of the Ghana Football Association [GFA] Kurt Okraku has revealed what can be done to prevent players from leaving Ghana to for greener pastures in foreign lands.

According to him, the Ghanaian league is weakened as a result of players exodus, which is also a reason for Ghanaian clubs poor performances in inter-club African competitions.

Kurt Okraku addressing the nation on GTV Sports Plus, says it is difficult to prevent players from leaving the shores of the land but the situation must be handled carefully to ensure it’s a win-win situation.

“Once there is freedom of movement. It becomes difficult to keep players in the local league. But it’s necessary for us to find creative ways to invest in the youth to keep players here”.

“What we must not forget is when these players travel outside Ghana, they add value to themselves and come back to serve the country. All we need to do is to ensure a win-win situation so we all benefit.” He added.
