Asante Kotoko have relieved former player Richard Manu from his duties as the club’s Youth Team coach.

The Ghanaian-born German was part of the coaches who screen talents to form the nucleus of the youth side in 2019 under the Dr Kwame Kyei’s administration.

However, after legal tussle with the club, Kotoko, led by Nana Yaw Amponsah have sacked Richard Manu from the club and have been asked to return the club’s assets in his possession.

Manu was appointed as Asante Kotoko youth team coach on a five-year deal in 2019 together with George Asare.

Manu played for Kotoko between 2007 and 2010 and was part of the team which won the Ghana Premier League in 2008.

Meanwhile, the club’s Youth Team will be kick started in few months time with documents already intact.

The team will be led by former first team assistant coach, Abdulai Gazale.

Ashantigold midfielder Appiah McCarthy made a return to action after being out for over a year with injury.

The bossy midfielder picked up an injury during an appearance in a game against Legon Cities FC at the Accra Sports Stadium in the 2020/2021 Ghana Premier League season.

Although he was expected to recover after six weeks, the midfielder did not make the expected progress in the treatment room and hence was out for a longer period.

Before his injury, Appiah McCarthy made 10 appearances for the Miners where he scored three goals to help the team.

McCarthy made the long awaited return in the club’s 1-0 win over Great Olympics today at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A counter attack saw the ball played to the feet of Yaw Annor, his first touch set him up and he hit a powerful shot into the bottom corner in the 68th minute.

That goal proved to be decisive as it turned out to be the winner.

The win takes Ashgold to 9th on the table with 35 points and Great Olympics lie 5th with 39 points

Asante kotoko coach has announced his 22- man squad ahead of their Premier League matchday 26 clash against Legon Cities in Kumasi.

The Porcupines at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon will host the 2016 Premier League winners as they aim to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat to RTU last weekend.

Christopher Nettey has returned to the team with Augustine Agyapong out due to his assisgnment with the Ghana U20 team.

The attack have Dickson Afoakwa back in the team after his injury recovery together with Clinton Opoku.

The team is still missing the services of Richmond Lamptey, captain Abdul Ganiyu who recently picked up injuries.

CEO of Accra Great Olympics, Oluboi Commodore is shocked the Ghana FA seems to be struggling to investigate alleged match-fixing in the Ghana Premier League and expose the criminals behind this canker.

Nine months after last season’s scandalous GPL match-day 34 fixture, between AshantiGold and Inter Allies, the GFA Disciplinary Committee is yet to announce the verdict on the case, despite inviting all the charged players and officials for questioning.

Hashmin Musah, a former defender of Inter Allies who was a second half substitute, intentionally scored two own goals as his side suffered a 0-7 defeat at AshantiGold on 17 July, 2021.

Allegations of match-fixing often characterise the final ten match-days of the domestic top flight, due to desperate attempts by some corrupt officials to aid their club’s survival from demotion or improve their chances of winning the title.

“I have been approached on several occasions by betting syndicates and have reported it to the GFA. It looks like betting and match fixing in the Ghana Premier League is too big for GFA to handle but it shouldn’t be so,” Oluboi told Accra based Starr FM.

The GFA is expected to treat allegations of match-fixing as a matter of urgency and crack the whip on implicated clubs to protect the integrity of the local game.

Earlier this week, retired referee Stephen Yaw Nsor revealed in an interview with Sunyani based Nimde3 FM that years ago he was forced by some unnamed officials at the GFA to ensure Hearts of Oak beat Elmina Sharks in an FA Cup match so they line up a meeting with Kotoko. Nsor also narrated how a Referees’ Appointment Committee member was offended and refused to assign him to officiate games following his decision not to help Dreams FC beat Instabul.

AshantiGold SC secured a slender 1-0 away win at Great Olympics in a Ghana Premier League match-day 26 fixture at the Accra Stadium on Saturday.

Winger Yaw Annor recorded the vital match winner in the 68th minute after blasting home a screamer from outside the penalty box following an incisive pass from team-mate Elijah Addai.

Annor’s second half wonder strike moved him up the GPL Top Scorers chart to 12 goals as he continues to contest Aduana Stars forward Bright Adjei (12) and Asante Kotoko striker Franck Mbella Etouga (17) for the award.

The victory pushes Coach Thomas Duah’s side two spots up to the 9th spot on the log sheet with 35 points after recording 10 wins, 6 draws and 11 losses.

The away triumph was AshantiGold’s 4th in 13 matches on the road this term.
