President of former Ghana Premier League side New Edubiase United FC, Abdul Salam Yakubu believes Ghanaian attacking midfielder Daniel Afriyie Barnieh should be given a place in the Black Stars as they gear towards Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Ghana, after snatching that needed bragging right from neighbors Nigeria in their last World Cup hurdle, made it to the Mundial later this year.

It marks their fourth FIFA World Cup tournament having missed out in the 2018 edition held in Russia.

Hearts of Oak talisman Daniel Afriyie Barnie is in the news, and it’s astute Ghanaian football Administrator calling for his inclusion into the senior national male team for the tournament.

The former Ghana U-20 forward has been very sensational and phenomenal for the Ghanaian giant’s.

He was the inspiration behind the Continental Club Masters winning the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup, getting on the record of clinching the treble.

In the ongoing Ghana Premier League, Barnie has eight goals to his credit, helping his side sit comfortably 3rd on the league log.

“They should give this young striker, Barnieh the chance to the World Cup. We have to give him the chance to learn. Afriyie Barnieh is very good, he is a fantastic player, very fast, he is having all the qualities”.

“We have to take him to the World Cup. He is capable of scoring in every game,” Abdul Salam told Original FM.

Barnieh was a member of the Black Satellites that won the 2020 WAFU Zone B U-20 Tournament and qualified for the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.

For the first time in black and white, a detailed account of how Castro the Destroyer disappeared has been told by Asamoah Gyan.

‘LeGyanDary’, the autobiography of the former Ghana captain, has hit the bookshelves this month after a star-studded launch led by the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo at the weekend.

Joy Sports, in collaboration with King-Dawie Publishers, has been serialising interesting portions of the book.

In one of the most captivating parts of the story, Gyan gives a blow-by-blow account of how his prolific musician friend mysteriously disappeared at a beach resort – and the frantic attempts to find him, including going to a nearby shrine.

We take the story from the moment it was realised that Castro had been away on a jet ski for a while and could not be accounted for…

As they left, I was confident of finding him somewhere doing his own thing. That was the only glimmer of hope I could give myself. Anim-Addo joined them and the other fellow mounted a jet ski. We continued our game though I was a bit distracted. Thirty minutes later, they all returned with the same news that they couldn’t find him.

During the wait, Baffour was fuming. He was pretty flabbergasted at how Castro had simply refused to listen and was waiting to lambast him. He kept pacing and murmuring. I knew my brother.

He felt disrespected by Castro’s actions and he was going to tell him in no uncertain terms to never repeat that. When the news reached us, my brother was outraged. His incessant outbursts were drawing attention and I had to calm him down. I explained to him that this wasn’t the best place to create such a scene and that when we finally find him, we will have a chat with him about it. I recall Sammy tearing up when they informed us he was nowhere to be found.

I had to calm Sammy down so he doesn’t draw too much attention. There were a lot of fans around and it would be disastrous to even let any of them suspect what we were all suspecting. We decided to go out and search again. This time, we had an expert join the team.

He was an expatriate who worked with the hotel. The wait was incredibly long. I am sure they were gone for just about thirty minutes but it felt like forever. We were all huddled in silence with a little chat occasionally.

In those moments, my imaginations would run wild and I will quickly dismiss any negative thoughts. The silence was deafening at a point and I whispered a silent prayer to God. When the search party returned, they came along with the key to his jet ski. My heart skipped a beat, maybe two or three more.

The looks on the faces of the search party got me worried. They all had this look of morbid fear in their eyes. That got me even more worried. I mean, if the experts looked this perturbed and helpless, then something must be very wrong somewhere.

I started asking questions and then he revealed to me that some seventeen years ago, a white man got missing in a similar fashion and was never seen or heard of again to date. He suspected whatever happened then may have happened to Castro. At this juncture, we all remembered he was on the ski with the lady. My brother broke down in tears and started talking about how he could have prevented all this if only Castro had listened to him. He said he felt something was going to happen and that was why he kept asking him to return to shore.

As we contemplated our next line of action, a man from the town showed up. He claimed there was an oracle in Ada which could help us find the missing persons. He added that the oracle was very powerful and such matters can be easily handled by it. Though I wasn’t very superstitious, I felt obliged to go along since we were in a fix.

What else could we do? I was a little scared of the ensuing encounter with a priest so I declined to join them to the shrine. I had a little money on me so I decided to return to the hotel and gather some money in case we had to make any payments later on. I was in a dilemma, lost in thought and wondering if perhaps this oracle could help. One returned with news that the consultation would cost Ghc 100 and a bottle of schnapps. I wondered silently if the schnapps was for the gods or for the priest.

Anyways, I went back inside and returned with some money. I joined them this time to go and see for myself. The fear of what lay ahead scared me a bit. I wondered how the shrine looked like and if it would have any future repercussions on me. But Castro was worth every bit of the sacrifice that was ahead.

When we got to the town proper, there were cheers all over. The children especially were awed and thrilled to see me. The chants and the shouts were very loud but I was completely lost in a world of chaos, sorrow and pain. If anyone had looked in my eyes, it would have been obvious I was in no way enjoying the attention and the cheers. Though I tried to smile at a few of the children who came close enough, I fidgeted in my head in ways only sorrow could dictate.

The journey to the shrine was a blend of different emotions. On arrival, we were made to take off our shoes and offered a seat. I wondered if the priest would recognize me. I chuckled to myself. Do the gods also watch football? At least I could steal a moment of joy in all this turmoil.

We sat down and the questions started. The Adas speak a native language called Dangme. The priest spoke the language and since we didn’t comprehend, we had someone interpret for us. He inquired if the lost person was someone of high repute.

That question remarkably gave me faith. Perhaps, sparked a glimmer of hope in all the darkness around us. I mean, how could he have guessed so wildly and still had it right? Unless of course, there was a supernatural presence telling things in the unknown. We answered in the affirmative and he gave us a wry smile.

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum as provided updates on his outfit’s reported pursuit for some Ghanaian players born abroad.

Following Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 World Cup, reports emerged that the Ghana FA has commenced the process of convincing some Ghanaian players born abroad who include Callum Hudson-Odoi, Tariq Lamptey and some few others to represent Ghana at the World Cup to be played in Qatar later this year.

“Well this issue is in two folds, the briefing I have had especially on the Inaki brothers is that we started the process even during the time of former President Nyantakyi. I was reliably informed from the handing over notes that he even met the father of the two players at that time,” said Henry Asante Twum.

“Then it was Inaki whose name was widely known but his junior brother was at the Bilbao academy team developing. The father said he will speak to his children but unfortunately things didn’t go well and we couldn’t make any progress as a country from that time.

“Since Kurt Okraku arrived, he has also made one or two moves, but the problem is that if you’re a Football Association and you’re pursuing Ghanaian players born abroad, you cannot do it alone, you’ll have to do it with the agreement or approval of whoever the coach of the team is.

“For instance, you go and change a player’s nationality and a coach comes and says he doesn’t want to work with him, you can’t insist or force the coach to work with the player. When we gave this job to Otto Addo? There were two things that he was clear about. The first one was to get Dennis Odoi to come and play for us and the second one was to get Elisha Owusu to come and play for us.

“We had already began the process to get Dennis Odoi three years ago, and we began the process for Elisha Owusu immediately Otto Addo said he needed him. We were able to complete the. long process within two weeks, permitting them to come and play for Ghana.

“Today, Dennis has become a household name and Elisha in the second half against Nigeria was one of our best performers, so it is not something only the Association decides, it must come from expert approval of the coach.

“So at the moment, all the names you’ve heard are good players and we will be glad if they join, because they’ll improve the team at the World Cup, but when we sort out the coach department and get proper direction for the technical team, they’ll tell us the players they like.

“It’s a long process switching nationality, the players must first write a letter declaring his desire to play for the team with a proof of his Ghanaian nationality. We then get consent of the players’ father, if the father agrees then he must also prove with his passport that he’s a Ghanaian.

“Then you take all these documents to the FIFA Player Status Committee. FIFA will then contact the player’s former Association for details. Before going back to the player’s father to ask him whether he gave his consent for his son to switch and what confirms he’s a Ghanaian. Then they get to the player before sitting on the documents to make a decision.

“So it’s a long process. Saying it is simple but on paper it is quite a difficult situation, so let’s be patient, whoever is willing to play for Ghana will not be denied that chance,” he ended.

Meanwhile, Otto Addo has confirmed that he will lead Ghana in the 2023 African Cup of Nation (AFCON) qualifiers and at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The FA is now focusing on finalizing talks with George Boateng, Didi Dramani and Chris Hughton.

GPL: Oly pip Berekum Chelsea 2-0 to go third

Great Olympics secured a well deserved 2-0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea in the Ghana Premier League match-day 28 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, to move four spots up on the log sheet.

The Dade lads unsettled the visitors with an early goal as right-back Amos Acheampong fired in a stunning curler past Berekum Chelsea goalie Melike Dzado in the 3rd minute after receiving a fine pass from team-mate Samuel Armah.

Great Olympics pushed further until the 73rd minute when left-back Samuel Abbey-Ashie Quaye doubled the lead for the two-times GPL champion.

Both defenders, Amos and Samuel have now increased their goals tally to 3 on the Top Scorer’s chart. The home win moves Great Olympics to the 3rd position, for at least one day, with 43 points from 28 games.

‘Everything rests on GFA’ – Salisu tells Kurt

England based Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has hinted at a possibility of playing for the Black Stars, yet insisted in a friendly chat with the Ghana FA Boss Kurt Okraku that all arrangements would rest on the Football Association.

The Southampton centre-back is yet to make a clear decision on when to make his Black Stars debut, despite being one of seven Ghanaian footballers in the diaspora being given a hot chase to feature for Ghana at the 2022 World Cup.

The 23-year-old backliner met with Kurt Okraku in London during the latter’s working visit to the Europe to visit and speak with Ghanaian players abroad. Mr. Okraku posted a short video of his talks with Salisu on Facebook.

In the conversation monitored by footy.ghpush.com/, Kurt Okraku jokingly quizzed in Hausa, "If you don't play, would I be the one to?"

A hearty Salisu responded by claiming, “The problem is, everything is done with you. Without you, things don’t work. Hope you understand? As for players, we have a lot but you people (the GFA)…”

From the discourse, Salisu seeks to convey the message that a big part of the arrangements to get him to feature for the Black Stars would rest on the GFA, despite the impression created in the media that the former Valladolid defender is uninterested in playing for Ghana.

In an attachment to the video posted by the GFA Boss on Facebook, he wrote, “Took time off official duties to speak and to visit some Ghanaian players in the last few days.. Salisu, I pray the almighty Allah continue to protect you ..You have a big career ahead of you..Stay blessed.”

Thomas Partey hints at injury return “soon”

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey suggested on his personal Twitter account that he may return “soon” from injury.

The 28-year-old has been out of action for Arsenal since limping off with a thigh injury in the Gunners’ 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace in early April.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta had previously indicated that the Ghanaian’s season was overdue to the injury, before indicating in recent days that the midfielder was making good progress in his recovery.

Following Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Sunday, the North London club’s official Twitter account shared a video of Gabriel’s goal scored at the London Stadium.

Partey reacted to the tweet on Monday with the phrase “Tom X Tom soon,” which might imply a reunion with Arsenal full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu in the coming weeks.

If Partey recovers more quickly than anticipated, he might make his Arsenal debut against Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with the Gunners currently leading Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the Premier League top four competition.

However, the former Atletico Madrid midfielder faces competition for a starting spot, with Mohamed Elneny impressing with Granit Xhaka in the midfield’s basis.
