FIFA President Gianni Infantino has sent a letter to Ghana Football Association(GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, congratulating Asante Kotoko SC for emerging as Champions of the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League.

In his letter, the FIFA President hailed Asante Kotoko’s hardwork, passion and commitment towards the teams’ triumph.

“It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Asante Kotoko SC for having been crowned 2021/22 champions of Ghana

This title could not have been achieved without the entire team’s hard work, passion and dedication, and everyone at the club can be very proud. Please extend my congratulations to everybody involved in this great achievement.

On behalf of the entire football community, I also take this opportunity to thank you and your Association for your contribution to the development and prosperity of football in Ghana and in Africa” the statement stated.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated Elmina Sharks FC 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their final home game in style to be crowned GPL champions on June 12, 2022.

Hearts of Oak right-back Samuel Inkoom tight-lipped after he was asked whether he will leave the club in the future.

The 33-year-old, who joined the Phobians in April this year, played a key role for the club as they clinched their 12th MTN FA Cup title by beating Bechem United on Sunday at the Baba Yara stadium.

Inkoom has been linked with a move to several clubs following his impressive performances for Samuel Boadu’s side. He made nine appearances in the Ghana Premier League and scored two goals last season.

“For now, I am Hearts of Oak player and I will just focus on Hearts at the moment, I know you will all be here at the right time if something good will come but as am talking to you now my main focus is Hearts of Oak,” Inkoom told Ghanasportspage.com.

“Some clubs have contacted me but I don’t have to talk about it because of my contract terms with Hearts of Oak.

“Is not allowed to talk about it whiles you have the contract that’s why am telling you that my main focus is Hearts of Oak and am still Hearts of Oak player so I will leave that one and if something will come up, everybody will hear about it.”

Hearts of Oak deputy coach Mohammed Hamza Obeng has charged the club’s board and management to plan well ahead of their participation in Africa.

According to Obeng, the team didn’t get enough preparation for their CAF inter-club competitions as they failed to make it into the group stage with disappointing defeats against eventual African champions Wydad Athletic Club and Algerian side JS Saoura.

Samuel Boadu’s side also had a disappointing league campaign as they lost the GPL trophy to arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, who won their 24th title with three games left to play, however, the Phobians beat Bechem United to win their 12th MTN FA Cup title.

“Last season, we didn’t get enough preparation for Africa,” coach Obeng told Akoma FM.

“So going into the Confederation this time, with the experience we had last season the board and management of Hearts need to plan well , if possible travel outside and play some high profile matches for the playing body to get that exposure.”

“We know for sure that playing in Ghana, definitely we must win with a huge margin and make the second leg a mere formality.”

Asante Kotoko according to Kessben Sports have inquired about the availability of Bechem United goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu.

The 25-year-old impressed for the Hunters in the just ended season, with Kassim Mingle side going on to finish third in the league and runners up in the MTN FA Cup.

It is understood that Dreams FC showed interest in signing the Black Stars B goalie but have had their offer declined by Bechem United.

Sources reveal that Danlad Ibrahim has received numerous offers from abroad and it’s likely the Reds will cash in on him. Kwame Baah on the other hand might not renew his contract as he believes he needs a new challenge elsewhere.

However, Kessben sports report that, Kotoko have contacted Bechem United to discuss the custodian’s availability with official bid yet to be sent.

Iddrisu was a standout performer in Premier League last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in 31 games, conceding 18 goals and clinching one MVP award.

He averages 2.1 saves per games with 70.2% pass accuracy.

The well-built goalkeeper becomes the first shot stopper in the league to reach 18 clean sheets. He kept 7 consecutive clean sheets in the league.

Hearts of Oak forward, Gladson Awako has selected teammate Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and two players from Bechem United as his top three players for the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

The former Great Olympics poster boy signed for the Phobians in 2021 prior to the start of the recently ended campaign.

Courtesy of injury and other issues, Gladson Awako could not replicate his form from last season.

Reflecting on the 2021/22 football season, Gladson Awako said Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Augustine Okrah, and Clinton Duodu are his best players for the season.

“To me, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Clinton Duodu, and Augustine Okrah have been my top three players in the Ghana Premier League,” Gladson Awako told Akoma FM in an interview.

Thanks to the top performance of Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Gladson Awako in the finals of this season’s MTN FA Cup, Hearts of Oak managed to beat Bechem United 2-1 last Sunday to emerge as champions.

Asante Kotoko’s Franck Mbella has been selected by Hearts of Oak assistant coach Obeng Hamza Mohammed as the finest player of the 2021–2022 Ghana Premier League.

With 21 goals in 30 games, the Cameroonian striker helped the Porcupine Warriors win the Ghana Premier League in his debut season with the team.

Yaw Annor of Ashantigold, who scored two goals on the penultimate day of the season, beat him out for the Ghana Premier League top scorer award by one goal.

Hamza also picked Daniel Afriyie Barnieh as Hearts of Oak’s best player of the season in the league. 

The 21-year-old scored 8 goals in 26 GPL games for the Phobians: his best ever tally in a season. 

“Afriyie Barnie is the best player at Hearts this season but in the league, I will say Mbella is my best,” Hamza told Kumasi-based Akoma FM. 

“He really did well, a foreigner playing for a big team with much pressure and still managed to score those goals, definitely I will say he’s the best.”
