Wollacot meets the requirements of today’s goalie – Fatau Dauda

Ghana International Fatau Dauda has endorsed Joseph Wollacot as the frontrunner among Ghana’s current goalkeeping pool due to his technical qualities.

The 25 year old made his Black Stars debut in 2021 under Serbian manager Milovan Rajevac in a world cup qualifier against Zimbabwe on the back of a lot of controversy.

He has since entrenched himself as the number one and has gone on to churn out some impressive performances.

Then a goalkeeper for Swindon Town in the English fourth tier, he has recently moved to Charlton Athletic in the third tier but has been consistently knocked for not meriting his spot due to the quality of the league he plays in.

According to Dauda, Wollacot’s diverse skill set makes him a hit with the technical handlers of the team.

“I know folks will say that he conceded a lot of goals at the Afcon but if you look closely a lot of the goals scored were not his fault.

“He is a goalkeeper who has good technique and his tactical play is also very good.

“He can play with his feet and his positioning is good as well.

“This is why he is the preferred choice of the coaches,” he told Citi Sports in an interview.

Wollacot currently competes for the number one spot in the national team with Lawrence Ati – Zigi of Saint Gallen and Manaf Nurudeen of Eupen.

Black Galaxies coach has verbally accepted the offer to replace coach Henry Wellington as the head coach of newly Promoted Ghana Premier League side Samartex FC.

Walker has been handed a three-year deal and will also be on $1,000-$1,500 USD(Ghc 8,000) per month as salary, sources close to negotiators have said.

We understand a contract has been agreed between Samartex 1996 and Annor Walker and will be completed immediately after Ghana Black Galaxies CHAN qualifiers match against Benin.

He will earn twice the winning bonus of players per match based on the latest agreement.

Samartex secured qualification to the Ghana Premier League for the first time after winning the Division One League Zone two league.

Mohammed Polo to join Black Stars for Qatar 2022 World Cup

GFA President Kurt Okraku has said that Mohammed Polo will be part of the Black Stars entourage for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Polo, who is a Ghana football legend was part of the team that won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with the Black Stars.

The former Hearts of Oak gaffer and legend has also contributed massively to the growth of football in the country.

According to Mr. Okraku, the association’s way of showing appreciation to the legendary footballer for his immense contribution to the development of Ghana football.

“Mohammed Polo has come and done his bit, it is left with me and you to also do our part in our mission to make our dear nation great and strong,” Kurt Okraku made this promise to the legend during the Launch of Polo’s autobiography titled “Polo The Magnificent: The story of the Dribbling Magician.”

“Our beloved Black Stars are in the Mundial (2022 World Cup) and we will go there and make our nation great and strong and proudly defend our colors and we will go there with the one and only professor Mohammed Ahmed ‘Polo’.

“Mohammed polo will be with us on the flight to Qatar which will be our token of appreciation. When you do your bit and sacrifice for our dear country, we will say thank you.

“His memories will continue to stay with countless generations of our dear nation and Africa at large,’’ he added.

Mohammed Polo made 54 appearances for the Black Stars from 1973 to 1985 and scored 20 goals for the Ghana national team.

REVEALED: Why ex-Hearts of Oak midfielder Benjamin Afutu terminated Eastern Company SC contract

Agent of Benjamin Afutu, Daniel Tackie has disclosed that his player terminated his contract with Egyptian club Eastern Company SC due to unprofessionalism on the part of the club.

Afutu signed a four-year deal with the North African club after leaving Hearts of Oak as a free agent last season.

The midfield kingpin terminated his contract just after six months and is currently in Ghana.

According to his agent, the club has disappointed the player as they have failed to fulfill the agreement between the two parties.

“Afutu was Eastern company’s best player but the club is unprofessional, they weren’t paying Afutu that’s why the player is back to Ghana,” he told Accra-based Happy FM.

“We have reported the issue to FIFA. Afutu is currently a free agent,” he added.

Afutu also stated that there haven’t been any talks with both Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko for Benjamin Afutu.

Asante Kotoko midfielder Mudasiru Salifu has completed his switch to Moldovan giants FC Sheriff Tiraspol in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old caught the eye of the Moldovan side’s scouts after scoring two goals and making four assists in Ghana Premier League as Kotoko won the title.

He was then handed a two-week trial which he impressed the club’s technical team.
 

Mudasiru has become the fifth Ghanaian player to play for Tiraspol after Razak Abalora, Patrick Kpozo, Basit Kalid and Edmund Addo who could depart the club.

Augustine Okrah scores on his debut for Simba SC against Ismaily in pre-season friendly

The Red and White new forward proved his mettle as he saved their blushes in the first pre-season game in Egypt

Ghana forward Augustine Okrah was on target when Simba SC drew 1-1 with Ismaily in pre-season friendly in Egypt on Sunday.

The 28-year-old who joined Simba from Bechem United in a two-year deal last week was handed a place in the squad and proved his importance.

Okrah brought Simba level after Jaoa Morel had given Ismaily the lead in the game.

After the game, Okrah expressed his joy and thanked the coach for the opportunity to play. He also admitted that he needs to work extra harder in order to score more goals for the fans.

Okrah is now now of the highest earning Ghanaian players plying their trade in Africa after he was paid almost one hundred times of the salary he was receiving at Bechem United.

GFA release decision on replacement for Inter Allies in the DOL Zone 3

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association has resolved that a play-off shall be played between the three second placed clubs in the three Regional Second Division Leagues in Zone 3 with the winner replacing demoted Inter Allies FC in next season’s Zone 3 League.

The three 2nd placed clubs, Na God FC, Agbogba FC and Port City FC/Abuakwa Susubribi FC will play in a three way League to determine the replacement for Inter Allies FC in the DOL Zone 3 League.

This follows the decision of the Appeals Committee to uphold the decision of the Disciplinary Committee that found Inter Allies FC guilty of match manipulation against AshantiGold SC.

Na God FC, Agbodga FC and Port City FC/Abuakwa Susubribi FC finished second in their respective Division Two Leagues in Greater Accra, Volta and Eastern Region respectively.

The three teams will engage in an all play all League format after which the winner makes it to the Division One League.

The fixtures will be as follows:

Team A vrs Team B Team B vrs Team C Team C vrs Team A

A draw would be held for the teams to pick A, B or C to ensure fair parings.

President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has eulogized Mohammed Ahmed ‘Polo’ for contributing his bit to Ghana football and selling the brand beyond the borders of Africa.

According to him the memory of Mohammed ‘Polo’ will stay with countless generations of Ghana and Africa.

President Simeon-Okraku said this during the Launch of Polo’s autobiography titled ‘’Polo The Magnificent: The story of the Dribbling Magician’’.

‘’Mohammed Polo has come and done his bit, it is left with me and you to also do our part in our mission to make our dear nation great and strong’’ he said.

Polo was a household name in Ghana football in the 1970s and 1980s while playing for Accra Hearts of Oak. He was also an integral member of the Black Stars team that won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1978.

The 65-year-old’s impressive performances earned him a nomination for the African Footballer of the Year award in 1977.

Polo is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever to emerge from Ghana and was dubbed 

the ‘Dribbling Magician’ during his playing days.

He won over 50 International caps and scored 20 goals for Ghana in a career that spanned two decades.  Mohammed ‘Polo’ previously worked as a Coach for Malian side Stade Malien, Accra Great Olympics and Accra Hearts of Oak.

Chelsea sign Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli

Chelsea have signed centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly on a four-year deal from Serie A side Napoli.

The Senegal international, 31, joined Napoli from Genk in 2014 and made 317 appearances for the Italian side.

His arrival at Stamford Bridge follows the departures of defenders Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and Andreas Christensen to Barcelona, both on free transfers.

“I’m very happy to be here with this team at Chelsea,” said Koulibaly.

“It’s a big team in the world and my dream was always to play in the Premier League. Chelsea came first to get me in 2016 but we didn’t make it. Now when they came to me I accepted it because they really wanted me to come to the Premier League to play for them.

“When I spoke to my good friends Edou [Mendy] and Jorginho they made my choice easier.”

Koulibaly made his senior debut for Senegal in September 2015 and has since earned 62 caps, captaining the team to victory at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He becomes Chelsea’s second signing since the Todd Boehly-led takeover after Raheem Sterling joined the club in a £50m deal.

Boehly said: “Kalidou Koulibaly is one of the world’s elite defenders and we are delighted to be welcoming him to Chelsea.

“A great leader and an exemplary team player, Kalidou brings a wealth of experience and attributes that will benefit our squad and the club as a whole.”

Barcelona agree deal to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich

Barcelona have agreed a deal with Bayern Munich for the signing of striker Robert Lewandowski for £42.5m (€50m).

Lewandowski is still in Munich and will fly to Miami on Sunday, where Barcelona will begin their pre-season tour, for a medical before signing his three-year contract, which contains an option for a further 12 months.

The Poland international had just one year remaining on his Bayern contract and had told the club he would not renew his deal.

“I didn’t have much time to prepare for it. It all went very quickly to say goodbye to everyone!” Lewandowski told Sky Germany after agreeing his move.

“These eight years were special and you don’t forget that. I had a great time in Munich.

“I will fly soon but after the training camp I will come back and say goodbye properly and organise a few things. I said goodbye to the boys on the field today, I wasn’t worried about an injury in training. Something can happen to me at home. I wanted to keep fit and trained with the boys again.”

Up until now the German champions had insisted Lewandowski was not for sale and turned down a €40m (£33.8m) offer from Barcelona last month.

However, Lewandowski’s departure would help Bayern to finance the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus, who have priced the centre-back at around €80m (£67.7m) plus bonuses, according to Sky in Italy.

Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern’s sporting director, was in Turin on Monday to open negotiations for De Ligt with Juventus. The Dutchman has two years remaining on his Juve contract and is reported to have told the Italian club he is keen to move to Munich.
