“No law stops Kotoko from using Otumfou’s image on their jersey, but…” -Nana Oduro Sarfo gives his take on controversy over Kotoko’s 2022/23 kits  

Nana Oduro Sarfo, a member of the GFA Executive Council, has openly said that Asante Kotoko is free to use Otumfou’s image on their jerseys without violating any laws anywhere in the country.

The Ghanaian champions recently unveiled their new uniforms for the 2022–2023 season, which prompted a lot of debate throughout the nation, particularly in the local media.

The image of His Royal Majesty, Otumfour Osei Tutu II – who is the owner of the Reds – is printed on both the club’s home and away jerseys, which has caused a lot of controversy in the nation.

According to sources, CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has been asked to appear at the Manhyia Palace to explain why this is the case.

However, Oduro Sarfo has stated Kotoko is free to use the jerseys in all local competitions in Ghana, but revealed that they will not be allowed to use them in the CAF inter-club championships as that will require negotiations with the continent’s top football governing body, CAF.

“There’s no law in Ghana that prohibits Kotoko from using Asanteman’s image on their jersey to play the Ghana Premier League, ” he told Abusua FM.

” However CAF have exclusive marketing and commercial rights on all their competitions. Therefore, Kotoko mist negotiate with them before they can use same jersey to play in the Champions League.”

Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the Caf Champions League after winning the Ghana Premier League last season.

Ghanaian midfielder Mudasiru Salifu makes debut for FC Sheriff

Ghanaian midfielder Mudasiru Salifu made his debut for FC Sheriff against Zimbru in Moldova’s top flight on Saturday.

The former Asante Kotoko star was handed a starting role and played the entire throttle at the Zimbru Stadium.

The tie which ended 1-1 saw the 25-year-old put up a splendid performance. Salifu came close to scoring before Sheriff took the lead in the 63rd minute through defender Keston Julien scored.

However, five minutes later Eugen Sidorenco levelled for the home team.

Mudasiru joined Sheriff on loan from Asante Kotoko recently and has already earned the trust of manager Stjepan Tomas to start the club’s first competitive match of the season.

He is expected to get more playing time in the coming games after impressing on his debut.
 
He played an extraordinary role, helping Kotoko to win the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League.

He scored two goals in 28 appearances for the Porcupine Warriors in the title success last season.

He is one of the highly-rated midfielders in Ghana and is tipped to have a successful time in Moldova.

Former Ghana U17 attacker Rudolf Blagogee is set to sign for MTN FA Cup winners Accra Hearts of Oak according to Phobianews.com

Blagogee has previously played for Densu Rovers, Osijek U19 in Croatia, Sporting CP U19 in Portugal, MFK Karvina in the Czech Republic, and Ingulets in Ukraine.

Blagogee was left out of Ghana’s U17 final squad, which advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup in India.

He is a dynamic offensive player who can play both wings and behind the striker and up front.

Rudolf Blagogee will feature in Hearts of Oak’s first team during the 2022/23 football season after the departure of offensive players like Kofi Kordzi.

A number of clubs were interested in the former Sporting Lisbon youngster before Hearts of Oak secured his signature.

2022 CHAN qualifiers: Afriyie Barnieh scores as Ghana complete double over Benin to set up Nigeria clash

Ghana will face Nigeria in the final round of qualification for the 2022 African Nations Championship after winning against Benin.

The Black Galaxies subdued Benin 1-0 on Saturday at Cotonou’s Stade de l’Amitié to complete the double over their West African opponents and advance to the next round.

Annor Walker’s team qualified with a 4-0 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 3-0 in Cape Coast last week.

Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who scored the first goal in the first leg, produced the winner in Cotonou, scoring in the 82nd minute.

Black Galaxies now have to find a way past Nigeria in the final round to book their place in Algeria for the tournament.

Ghana have failed to qualify for the tournament in the last three editions.

Daniel Obeng Nyarko, Asante Kotoko’s director of communications, has downplayed claims of coach Dr. Prosper Ogum’s departure.

Despite rumours that the coach has resigned, there hasn’t been any official contact from him, according to Obeng Nyarko.

The Porcupine Warriors are set to travel to Turkey for pre-season on August 15, 2022, ahead of the new season.

And it is likely the ex-WAFA coach will not be travelling with the club.

“There’s no official communication from the club. Recently Barcelona travelled to pre-season of which Xavi couldn’t make it but still had the pre season,” he said at the launch of their pre-season programme.

“Until the club officially comes out, it is important that we take it as it is,” he added.

The Porcupine Warriors led by Dr Prosper Ogum reclaimed the Ghana Premier League title from rivals Hearts of Oak last season.

Dr Prosper Ogum is currently with the Black Galaxies team in Cotonou for the CHAN qualifiers.

South Africa legend Benni McCarthy joins Manchester United’s first-team coaching staff

Former South Africa forward, Benni McCarthy, is the newest addition to Manchester United’s coaching staff. 

The legendary forward joins Erik Ten Hag’s coaching staff as striker’s coach ahead of the 2022/23 English Premier League season.

Ten Hag had wanted to to work with Robin Van Persie as striker’s coach, but after the ex-Man United forward turned down the offer.

The Dutch trainer switched to the South African, who had a spell in the Netherlands with Ajax Amsterdam in the past.

Benni McCarthy is unattached after leaving Cape Town City FC and has already travelled to Manchester to begin works with the English giants.

The South African played in England for Blackburn Rovers and West Ham, and was in the past linked with Manchester United and Chelsea.

Benni McCarthy is fondly remembered for playing a key role in Jose Mourinho’s UEFA Champions League winning squad of 2004.

Manchester United will begin their season at home against Brighton and Hove Albion next month.

FA Cup champions, Hearts of Oak have released Isaac Agyenim Boateng and Enoch Addo ahead of the 2022/23 Ghana football season.

The Phobian Club within the week released six senior players ahead of the new season.

Kofi Kordzi, Frederick Ansah Botchway, Patrick Razak, Manaf Umar, Larry Sumaila, and William Dankyi were the players who have been shown the exit.

Auroras FC graduate, Enoch Addo, who has been struggling for playing time despite his loan spell at Berekum Chelsea and Elmina Sharks has been offloaded following the expiration of his contract.

Addo was told by the management of the club that his contract which will be expiring next month won’t be renewed for sporting reasons.

Former Medeama SC attacker Isaac Agyenim Boateng who signed a multi-year contract with Hearts of Oak on a free transfer before the commencement of the 2021/22 season has been released after eight months.

His poor output at the club resulted in the technical team’s decision to declare him as surplus to requirements ahead of the new season.

Hearts of Oak have acquired the services of Cameroonian striker Junior Kaaba to beef up their upfront in the next season’s Ghana Premier League and African Campaign.

Also, it has been reported that Hearts of Oak have signed Konadu Yiadom from WAFA, goalkeeper Eric Ofori Antwi, Francis Twene of Bechem United, and Swedru All Blacks centre-back Zakaria Yakubu.

Samuel Boadu will be hoping for an impressive season after an uninspiring performance in their last season’s campaign which saw them finish the sixth position on the Ghana Premier League log.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak will represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup in the 2022/23 season.

Transfer News: Asante Kotoko close to signing RTU captain David Abagna

Asante Kotoko have reportedly reached personal terms with Real Tamale United midfielder David Abagna Sandan.

The Porcupines were crowned champions of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League following a decent campaign that saw them win their 25th league title.

Kotoko are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season and have pencilled down Abagna.

Abagna, who turns 24 in September, has been targeted as a replacement for Richmond Lamptey who might not be able to play part in the club’s campaign due to the ban imposed on him by the Ghana FA for his involvement in the match-fixing scandal involving AshantiGold and Inter Allies.

Myfabulousonline.com has learnt that contact has been established between the three parties involved in the possible transfer with the player already agreeing personal terms with the Reds.

However, the two clubs are yet to agree on a fee for the transfer of the industrious midfielder.

The former Legon Cities and AshantiGold midfielder was part of the Ghana squad that played at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon and netted nine times in the 2021-22 Ghana Premier League season.

The Black Galaxies trained at the Stade de l’Amitié Général Mathieu Kérékou Friday afternoon ahead of the 2nd leg of the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) preliminary round qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin.

The team arrived in Cotonou in the morning and moved straight to action in preparation for the clash on Saturday.

 Annor Walker led the training session with support from his Assistants Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and Bismark Kobby Mensah at the Stade de l’Amitié Général Mathieu Kérékou.

The Black Galaxies hold a 3-0 advantage from the 1st leg played at the Cape Coast stadium on Sunday, July 23, 2022.

The winner of this round will face Nigeria for one of the slots from West Africa Zone B for the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament in Algeria in 2023.

The Black Galaxies are chasing a record fourth appearance in the competition having finished 2nd twice in 2009 and 2014 and crashing out at the Group stage in Sudan 2011.

U-20 Women’s World Cup: Ghana suffer heavy defeat to France in friendly

Ghana’s Black Princesses struggled in a friendly match against France on Friday, falling 4-0.

The crushing defeat serves as a wake-up call for the team ahead of the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica next month.

It took just 15 minutes for France to go ahead, with forward Vicki Becho scoring. Seven minutes later, Becho doubled the lead with her second.

Forward Esther Mbakem-Niaro made it three for France three minutes after the halftime break, and in the 75th minute, Laurina Fazer scored a penalty.

For France, this is a morale-boosting win heading into the tournament in which they will face Nigeria, Canada, and South Korea.

The Black Princesses must improve before their first match against the USA. They will also play Japan and the Netherlands in the group stage.

Ghana will begin her campaign against the United States on Thursday, August 11, 2022, before facing Japan on Sunday, August 14, and the Netherlands on Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

Ben Fokuo’s side aim is to make it out of the group stage for the first time after failing in all five previous attempts.
