Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng has insisted that he is expecting other clubs to challenge Asante Kotoko for the Premier League title this season.
Kotoko were crowned champions in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League under Prosper Narteh Ogum.
With the 2022/23 betPawa Ghana Premier League scheduled to kick off this weekend at the various league centres, Boateng speaking in an interview said he is expecting the other team to give Kotoko a tough season.
“Asante Kotoko won it last year so, I’m expecting other teams to challenge Kotoko,” the former U-23 Aston Villa manager said.
“I think what will be very important this season as the President( Kurt Okraku) touched on is better officiating of the games.
“So better referees that will help the game, we can get better pitches that will also help a lot,” he added.
Asante Kotoko who are playing RC Kadiogo in the CAF Champions League preliminary round will open their Premier League account with a home game against Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Chelsea have appointed Graham Potter as their new manager following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel.
Potter has left fellow Premier League club Brighton to take up the role and has signed a five-year deal with the Blues.
The 47-year-old said he was “incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea”.
Potter’s first game in charge will be an away derby with fellow west London club Fulham on Saturday at 12:30 BST.
“We are thrilled to bring Graham to Chelsea,” said the Stamford Bridge club’s chairman Todd Boehly.
“Not only is he extremely talented on the pitch, he has skills and capabilities that extend beyond the pitch which will make Chelsea a more successful club.
“He has had a major impact at his previous clubs and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea.
“We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team and the squad in realising their full potential in the coming months and years.”

Accra Lions have completed the signing of Samba Bagayoko from Malian side Centre Demba Keita ahead of the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League which commences on Saturday.
The 18-year-old joins the club on a three-year deal and is expect be available for selection in their league opener Kotoku Royals.
The club announced the signing of the 2021 top goal scorer of the Malian 2nd tier via their twitter handle on Thursday.
“ALFC completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Samba Bagayoko. The 2021 top goal scorer of the Malian 2nd tier is a hard working, fast and aggressive forward with a good future potential,” Accra Lions posted.

Black Stars technical advisor, Chris Hughton has chosen former Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien as his all-time greatest Ghanaian footballer.
Essien, also known as ‘The Bison’ dazzled many with his impeccable displays from the middle of the pitch during his playing days.
The now 39-year-old once won the Ligue 1 Player of the Year award during his stint at Lyon. At Chelsea, he clinched two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy whilst forming a solid partnership with England legend Frank Lampard.
Hughton, who has met Essien on a few occasions, spoke highly of the former Black Stars player
“My all-time greatest Ghanaian footballer would be Michael Essien. One because he was in London so I saw a lot of him when he played. I had the pleasure to meet him on a few occasions and to speak with him but he was a very influential player in I think what was the turnaround in what we are seeing now at Chelsea,” he told TV3 in a Q and A session.
Essien has now delved into coaching. He started working with Danish side Nordsjaelland as an assistant.
Cameroonian forward Georges Mfegue has been given Asante Kotoko’s No.10 jersey ahead of the 2022/2023 football season.
Mfegue gets the famed number after Fabio Gama left the club following the expiration of his contract. He follows the likes of Songne Yacouba, Joe Debrah, Opoku Nti, Abdul Razak, Baba Amando, Prince Adu Poku etc to don the No.10 in the past.
Mfegue, 22, wore the jersey no.9 in his first season at Kotoko where he netted 8 goals and registered 5 assists in 26 games – helping the Porcupines clinch the 2021/22 league title.
His no.9 jersey will now be taken over by Ugandan international Steven Dese Mukwala who recently joined the Reds.
The Cameroonian has been named in Coach Seydu Zerbo’s squad for the Champions League game against RC Kadiogo in Benin on Friday.
The second leg will come off on the 18th of September, 2022 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Asante Kotoko coach, Seydou Zerbo has named a 22-man travelling squad for their Champions League preliminary round first leg tie against Burkina Faso outfit RC Kadiogo.
The game which was initially set to be played in Ivory Coast has now been shifted to the General Mathieu Kérékou Friendship Stadium in Cotonou, Benin.
It will now be played on Monday, September 12, 2022.
Kotoko departed on Friday morning with a contingent comprising of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, five midfielders and six forwards.
Players like Frank Mbella, Eric Zeze, Stephen Amankona, Augustine Agyapong and Rocky Dwamena are not part of the travelling squad to Benin to face RC Kadiogo.

Ghana playmaker Mohammed Kudus was named man of the match when Dutch champions Ajax thumped Rangers FC in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Kudus produced an intriguing performance to inspire Ajax to beat the Scottish giants 4-0 in their group stage opener at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
The 22-year-old who is making his first start of the season scored his very first goal in European competition and set up another to aid the Dutch side.
Mexico defender Edson Alvarez opened the score for Ajax in the 17th minute after heading home a corner-kick from Steven Berghuis.
Berghuis was assisted by Kudus for the second goal in the 32nd minute before the Ghana international got his name on the scoresheet with a superb finish moments later.
Substitute Steven Bergwijn rounded off the resounding victory for the Dutch champions having scored the final goal ten minutes from play.
Kudus was the eye-catcher of the night as he got the highest rating from the team from Amsterdam and was named the MVP by UEFA.
According to OptaJohan, Kudus was only the seventh player in the last 15 years to both score a goal, assist a goal and not misplace a single pass in a Champions League match, becoming the first to do it since Serge Gnabry in 2020.
The former Ghana youth star had 100% pass completion and also had 100% in dribbles attempts in the match.

After a difficult few weeks, Mohammed Kudus scored a stunning goal in his first start of the season.
The midfielder scored a stunning goal to help Ajax beat Rangers 4-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The goal is the Ghana international’s first in the European competition, and he will remember it fondly.
The 22-year-old received the ball on the left, shrugged off a couple of challenges, and unleashed a stunning drive into the net.
Kudus, who has been benched in all league games this season, attempted to leave Ajax during the summer transfer window.
He reached a personal agreement with Premier League club Everton, but Ajax blocked the transfer, claiming Kudus is still part of their plans despite being relegated to the bench.
Manager Alfred Schreuder gave Kudus his first start against the Scottish side, and the Ghanaian took full advantage, scoring for the second game in a row.
Kudus scored after coming on as a substitute in Ajax’s 4-0 thrashing of Cambuur last weekend.
