King Faisal suffered yet another defeat in the betPawa Premier League on Monday as they lost 3-2 to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports stadium.

Faisal were hoping to bounce back from their opening day defeat to Berekum Chelsea but their hopes were dashed as they succumbed to another defeat – this time in front of their fans at the Baba Yara stadium.

Bright Adjei drew the first blood in the 16^th minute for Aduana FC but Haruna Mohammed replied 11 minutes later to draw King Faisal level.

Adom Frimpong scored in the 33^rd minute to restore the lead for the Ogya lads as the two-time League Champions went into the break with a 2-1 cushioning.

Back from recess, Solomon Aboagye added another goal for Aduana FC in the 53^rd minute. With the game heading to a 3-1 victory, King Faisal pulled one back through Elia Elias in the 89^th minute.

The result leaves King Faisal at the bottom of the betPawa Premier League table with no point after two matches following an opening say 2-0 loss to Berekum Chelsea.

Elsewhere – Mezack Afriyie scored for the second time on the spin as Berekum Chelsea threw away an early lead to draw 1-1 with Samartex 1996 at the Akoon Park at Tarkwa.  

The forward took his goal tally to two goals in two matches after netting in the 4^th minute but his goal lasted for only 8 minutes as Samartex 1996 drew level in the 12^th minute mark.

Both teams pushed for the winning goal but that was not meant to happen as the game ended 1-1 in Tarkwa.

Matchday 2 of the new Ghana Premier League did not disappoint with drama and goals witnessed by all.

The biggest game of the weekend was between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics, the Mantse Derby which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Yussif Razak capitalised on a horrendous error by the Hearts of Oak defence to draw first blood for the Oly Dade boys but a late header from recent signing Konadu Yiadom forced a draw.

Hearts of Oak are currently winless against Olympics in their last five meetings.

Elsewhere, Medeama mounted a comeback to secure all three points against RTU.

The Mauve and Yellows scored the opener but two quick second-half goals from Issah Kuka turned the tide in favour of RTU.

Kofi Asmah and Kwasi Donsu, who finished the game with a brace, came to the rescue of the hosts, ensuring a 3-2 result.

Legon Cities bounced back from a disappointing opening match to clinch a 1-0 win over Tamale City away from home.

Dreams FC continued their fine start to the season with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted side Kotoku Royals.

Accra Lions beat Karela United 2-1 at home while Nsoatreman secured their first ever top-flight win against Bibiani Gold Stars on Friday.

Coach Seydou Zerbo has insisted that he has equally good players to make up for the void Franck Mbella’s absence will create in the Asante Kotoko team ahead of their Caf Champions League preliminary round second leg tie against RC Kadiogo.

Etouga was the Porcupine Warrriors’ top scorer last season, scoring 21 goals in his debut season and winning the Ghana Premier League with Kotoko.

However, he was not part of the club’s pre-season tour of Sudan. The Cameroonian import was not part of the team that travelled to Benin to beat RC Kadiogo 1-0 in the first leg of their Caf Champions League preliminary round tie on Monday.

According to reports, he wants out and has refused to train in a bid to force his way out of the club.

Reacting to how his team would cope without him in Sunday’s clash, the Burkinabe coach threw his weight behind his players to fill Mbella’s void.

“Asante Kotoko is a big club and if Mbella isn’t around,that doesn’t mean the club won’t be there. I heard he’s an important player but I didn’t work with him, but I believe those who won in Benin can equally step up for the club, ” Zerbo said at a presser on Friday morning.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kotoko will host Kadiogo for the second leg tie of the Caf Champions League preliminary round.

Newly promoted Nsoatreman won their first game of the season on Friday, defeating Bibiani Gold Stars in Nsuatre.

Midfielder Samuel Ofori scored the game’s lone goal from the penalty spot, giving Nsoatreman their first win in Ghana’s top flight.

Because their first opponent, Asante Kotoko, was on a continental assignment, Nsoatreman had plenty of rest and time to prepare for this game.

The home team played some good football and dominated the first half, but they couldn’t find the net.

However, Nsoatreman FC’s efforts paid off after the break. Ofori, their leading scorer last season, converted a penalty kick in the 71st minute to put them ahead.

After scoring, they set out to defend the goal, thwarting Gold Stars’ efforts to steal a point.

Nsoatreman will travel to face Kotoku Royals in their next game, while Gold Stars will hope for their first win when they host Bechem United.

The 2022/23 betPawa Premier League continues this weekend across the country.
