Ghana Premier League duo makes ‘The Guardian’ list of best 60 young footballers in the world

Ghana Premier League side, Bechem United have had two of their youngsters, Aaron Essel and enterprising Clinton Duodu listed among the Guardian’s just-released best 60 young footballers in the world.

Dubbed as the ‘The Next Generation 2022’, the UK-based tabloid does it annually where they dig deep to fetch exciting young footballers worldwide whom they deem to takeover the game under their shades very soon.

Both players were really outstanding last season for the Hunters, having helped them make a 3rd-place finish in the 2021/22 GPL campaign and also made it to the final of the league cup but unfortunately missed out narrowly.

Aaron Essel was really amazing on the right side of defence and really established himself as one of the best laterals in the league last season.

Also, Clinton Duodu only 17, has been a revelation in the Ghanaian topflight for sometime now and last season was of no exception where he emerged as the best young player in the FA Cup.

Their stellar and consistent display has earned them a place in the Guardian’s 2022 edition of the ‘The Next Generation’ list.

Still with Bechem United, both have featured in Bechem United’s opening two matches of the 2022/23 football season and are yet to record a win- somehow a jittery start unlike the previous campaign.

Duodo have already set his sight on playing in the European football after stating back in March that he wants to play with world football icon Cristiano Ronaldo before the former Real Madrid super star retires from the game.

Ex-Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak talisman Charles Taylor has questioned the tactical knowledge and structure of Ghana’s head Coach Otto Addo after Black Stars international friendly matches.

Coach Otto Addo after booking Ghana to the Mundial after eliminating Nigeria was appointed Gaffer to lead the West African Country to the 2022 FIFA World Cup

However, his performance seems not convincing to Black Stars fans and the populace.

The Black Stars lost 3-0 to the five-times World Cup champions Brazil and managed a 1-0 victory over Central America country Nicaragua.

Former Ghana forward Charles Taylor believes Otto Addo should relinquish his position as Black Stars head coach and concentrate on scouting.

“He is a scouting coach, he is not capable of managing the Black Stars, we need to have a standard for everything, Addo is a scout his job is to watch players and nurture players”, he told Adom FM.

“People won’t understand why Kudus is not performing in the Black Stars but keeps flourishing with Ajax”, he concluded.

Black Queens striker, Vivian Adjei Konadu is making the goals rain in the Kerala Women’s Premier League in India.

Konadu is gaining prominence with her ridiculous numbers after just 7 games into the 2022/2023 season. She has scored a whopping 33 goals so far.

She has been a standout performer for her club, Gokulam Kerala FC, who are leading the second-tier domestic competition.

The Black Queens striker scored 10 goals in her side’s 15-0 win over Kadathanad Raja FA on Thursday, 2022.

Age

Konadu is a Ghanaian native. She is from Techiman in the Bono Region.

Vivian Konadu, born on January 14, 2000, is 22 years old.

Former Clubs

The striker began his career in Ghana with Kumasi Sports Academy Ladies before joining Thunder Queens at the age of 20.

She was the Thunder Queens’ top scorer in her first and only season, finishing the 2021/2022 season with seven goals.

Konadu secured a transfer to Gokulam Kerala FC in 2022.

National Team

Vivian Konadu has represented Ghana at both the youth and senior levels. She was one of Evan Addotey’s 21 invited players for the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in Jordan in 2016.

She appeared in three games during the tournament, which Ghana exited in the quarterfinals after a 2-1 loss to North Korea.

Konadu received her first senior Black Queens call-up in 2021. She was a member of the squad that lost to Nigeria and failed to qualify for the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations.

Dan Quaye, a former player for the Accra Hearts of Oak, has offered his opinion on the club’s choice to fire coach Samuel Boadu.

Dan Quaye, is one of the best and most talented coaches Ghana has ever produced. He never agrees with the management’s choice to fire the coach.

The club’s administration fired Samuel Boadu after he had a terrible start to the current betpawa premier league with one loss and two draws after three games played. Boadu had earned the club their first premier league title in ten years.

Speaking to Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, Dan Quaye was emphatic that he will recommend coach Annor Walker to his former club, and compared him to Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid with his experience on the touchline.

He went on to say that it is always good in the African continent to appoint coaches from your hometown because they can help the club succeed, citing the case of Jones Attuquafio who helped the club some years ago.

He stated that going in for an expatriate will not help because they only come in to help the clubs sell their players.

Hearts of Oak are in the news once again after cutting ties with their eleventh manager under the regime of bankroller, Togbe Afede XIV.

The Phobians are winless in three league games this season, a defeat to Aduana Stars and two stalemates with rivals Great Olympics and Asante Kotoko forcing the Togbe Afede-led board to send Boadu packing.

The 36-year-old is the most successful gaffer in the Togbe era, having won five trophies – Premier League, FA Cup 2x, Super Cup and the President Cup but even his achievements could not convince Togbe to pull the trigger.

Sebastian Barnes, who is a former midfielder of Ghana has stated that it is time the Ayew brothers are dropped from the senior national team and start building the team with young players.

In recent days, Andrew Ayew and his brother, Jordan have come under the slaughter board due to their recent performance for the Black Stars, with the former claiming that senior players would be untouchable ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Ayew brothers were handed starts against Brazil but rarely impressed though Andre Ayew struck the woodwork in the second half.

The two were part of the wholesale players dropped from the starting lineup in Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Nicaragua last Tuesday in Spain.

Ghana will start their World Cup campaign on November 24, but Barnes believes the West African giants need fresh blood and some youthful exuberance in the team.

“I’m not against the Ayew brothers but it’s time for Ghana to build a formidable side with new young players,” he told Accra-based Happy FM.

Black Stars will play Switzerland in an international friendly on November 17 before starting their World Cup campaign on November 24, with the pair expected to make the final squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar which begins from November 20 to December 18.

Hearts of Oak have responded to allegations levelled against them and some club officials by their former welfare and fitness manager, W.O. Tandoh.

In a recent radio interview, Tandoh, who is currently an assistant coach at Aduana Stars, descended heavily on the club with curses and also used unpalatable words towards some of the leaders of the club.

According to the former military man, the Ghanaian giants owe him six months’ salary, blaming Alhaji Akambi and Vincent Odotei Sowah for his resignation and describing them as liars.

Hearts of Oak indicated that Tandoh’s comments about the club were unfortunate, unacceptable, and very unprofessional.

A club statement said, “It came as shocking news to all true meaning Phobians when our former welfare and fitness trainer W. O 1 Paul Tandoh, now an assistant coach at Aduana Stars took to radio to descend on the club with his curses and used unpalatable words at some of our leaders. 

“As a club, we find his comments as rather unfortunate and unacceptable and very unprofessional because we believe at this point in his professional career he should know better and be as discipline as a real soldier will always be. 

“For W. O Tandoh to have the guts to describe some of our club officials with all manner of adjectives, we see this as unacceptable and therefore urge all of our followers to disregard him and fully throw your support behind the team as we continue to move into a positive direction to bring the needed changes to the club as we yearn to attain preeminence. 

“Our destiny can NEVER be in the hands of W. O Tandoh for him to say Hearts will lose our next five matches. If indeed he has any such authority to decide the fortunes of men, we urge him to deploy that to help his team win every game in every competition. At Hearts, what we believe in is that we strive to win our games since we believe matches are won based on good preparation and good performance and not through any others means. 

“At Hearts of Oak we respect our leaders and we expect he, W. O Tandoh to do same because these same leaders gave him the platform to enhance his career and therefore do not deserve those unwarranted comments from a man with a military background where discipline is core in all of their activities. 

“We urge him to needfully retract his comments.”

An audio recording of an interview granted by Mwine that was shared to CITI Sports by Ugandan journalist, contained portions that had Mwine lamenting his frustration over Mukwala’s failure to recognize his role in the move to Kotoko.

“Mukwala, I respect you a lot as my brother but I can assure you, you will not succeed in Ghana,” a bitter Santos asserts to Mukwala. God is not stupid, I played a very big role in keeping this deal alive by lying to the Kotoko official that you had deals in Mamelodi Sundowns and TP Mazembe which improved your value.”

“I am not worried about Black Stars form” – Otto Addo

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has mentioned that he is not worried about the team’s current form going into the 2022 World Cup.

Addo has won only two of his eight games in charge of the national team, leading them to the 2022 World Cup against Nigeria in his first two games.

Both games were drawn, ensuring Ghana’s qualification for the tournament in Qatar on away goals.

Since then, Ghana have only beaten Madagascar once, a 3-0 victory in Cape Coast in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, and Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Nicaragua.

The run has included defeats to Japan (4-1) and Brazil (3-0), as well as draws with the Central African Republic (1-1) and Chile (0-0).

“We are using these matches to try a lot of things, not only on the players but also for my side on systems, so we have to find that together. This is very important for us as a team.

“We have new players in each position we need to integrate and a whole a lot of things and we also want to use these games for everyone to show themselves at the training and also in the games and I am not worried.

“We have to take the right conclusions out of every match and prepare ourselves for the World Cup.”

Black Stars will play another friendly against Switzerland on November 17 before beginning their World Cup campaign on November 24 against Portugal.

They will then play South Korea and Uruguay to complete the group stage.
