VIDEO: Inaki Williams scores 4th league goal of the season

0

Ghana striker, Inaki Williams netted his fourth league goal of the 2022/23 season in Spain, maintaining his impressive display ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Williams scored in Tuesday’s game for his side Athletic Bilbao against Getafe at the Alfonso Perez Coliseum.

The 28-year-old, who made his Ghana debut in a friendly against Brazil last month, scored two minutes into the La Liga match.

Ander Herrera’s precise lofted cross into the box found Williams. He latched on to it and finished with a quick shot into the middle of the goal, leaving Getafe’s goalkeeper with no chance.

Williams’ brother Nico Williams, who plays for Spain, assisted Athletic Bilbao’s second goal, after Getafe had equalised.

Watch the goal in the Tweet below:

Inaki is confident of making Ghana’s final squad for the Qatar, where Black Stars will play Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in the group stage.

Ghanaians have been criticising Ayew brothers unfairly – George Afriyie

0

Former GFA Vice-President, George Afriyie believes Ghanaians have been unnecessarily hard on the Ayew brothers.

The two sons of the legendary Abedi Pele have seemingly become easy targets for criticism whenever the senior national team plays.

Many have even called for their heads, demanding they are not called into the Black Stars again.

But Afriyie, a former leading member of the Black Stars Management Committee thinks Ghanaians have been unfair to the brothers.

“I think we’ve been unfair to them [Andre and Jordan Ayew],” he stated in an interview with Untold Stories TV GH.

“Yes, as footballers, they all have their flaws. But trust me if a player is playing in the English Premier League week-in-week-out, what will be the justification for not calling him? It is the same justification I will call for the inclusion of Jeffrey Schlupp. For me, if you call Jordan Ayew, you’ve invited a good player from a good league.

Afriyie continued: “People have the right to criticizs. Like we [normally] say, ‘we have 30 million coaches.’ All of us have our opinions as far as call-ups are concerned so that one you can’t blame people for what they say. But I’m saying that we are criticising them unfairly. I’ve had the opportunity to work with both players

“In key times, Jordan has delivered… He has scored crucial goals for us. And he is a player that if you have monitored him when he is determined to do it, he does it,” the one-time GFA Presidential candidate added.

The Ayew brothers are in line to make Ghana’s squad for the Qatar 2022 Fifa World Cup next month.

The board takes ‘serious exception’ to Boadu’s ‘distracting’ behaviour – Hearts board member Sowah Odotei

0

Board member of Hearts of Oak, Vincent Sowah Odotei, has lambasted at former coach Samuel Boadu for his behaviour at the Accra Sports Stadium, moments before kick-off of the game between the Phobians and Malian outfit AS Real Bamako in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Boadu, who was sacked in September 2022 after a successful 20 months in charge of the club, entered the inner perimeter and did a lap of honour rallying support and sand with the fans as the team prepared to overturn a 3-0 first leg defeat.

His actions have now been described as ‘distracting’ by Sowah Odotei, who claims the board takes ‘serious exception’ to Boadu’s behaviour.

“We take exception to what he did, by getting into the inner perimeter. We don’t know how he got there,” he told Joy Sports.

“He claims that he loves the club but what he did would have distracted the players. The board takes strong exception to what he did because it’s never done anywhere. I’ve never seen anything like this.

“I hope that he will not repeat that under any circumstances,” he concluded.

Boadu’s sacking came just 12 days before Hearts of Oak’s first game of the CAF Confederation Cup game against AS Bamako.

The decision proved unpopular among the fanbase, and the club subsequently lost the tie 3-1 on aggregate. They lost 3-0 in Mali and won 1-0 at home.

Real Madrid star Karim Benzema wins Ballon d’Or for first time

0

Real Madrid and France forward Karim Benzema has won the Ballon d’Or – awarded to the best footballer of the year – for the first time.

Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 games as he helped Real win the Champions League and La Liga in 2021-22.

Lionel Messi (seven) and Cristiano Ronaldo (five) had won the award on 12 of the previous 13 occasions.

Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas retained the Women’s Ballon d’Or, awarded to the best best female footballer of 2022.

England Euro 2022 winner and Arsenal forward Beth Mead was second.

Premier League champions Manchester City, who had six nominees at the ceremony, were awarded Club of the Year ahead of Liverpool.

The Ballon d’Or is awarded to the best footballer of the year, based on performance over the 2021-22 season.

First Frenchman since 1998 to win prize

Monday’s ceremony in Paris saw French F1 driver Esteban Ocon arrive at the Theatre du Chatelet with the Ballon d’Or trophy in a racing car.

Benzema is the first Frenchman to win the prestigious award since Zinedine Zidane in 1998. Zidane was at the event to present his countryman with the prize.

Benzema was the overwhelming favourite to win this year’s award.

His 44 goals included a hat-trick in 17 second-half minutes against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, and another away to Chelsea in the quarter-final first leg.

He also scored three more goals over two legs of the semi-final against Manchester City.

The 34-year-old, who has been at Real Madrid since 2009, is expected to play a key role for France at the World Cup in Qatar which starts on 20 November.

The Ballon d’Or is voted for by 100 journalists from around the world.

Hearts of Oak supporters chief Elvis Herman Hesse invited by Police following stadium clash with Sowah Odotei

0

Police have invited Hearts of Oak supporters chief Elvis Herman Hesse following his feud with board member Vincent Sowah Odotei on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians’ 1-0 CAF Confederation Cup victory over AS Real Bamako which wasn’t enough to move the Phobians on to the next stage of the competition
featured an altercation between Hesse and Odotei at the VIP.

After the game, incensed fans held Odotei and another board member, Alhaji Akanbi hostage, deflating their car tyres.

Odotei is said to believe Herman Hesse is responsible for the fans’ behaviour and reported him to the Ministry Police, who arrested the National Chapters Committee (NCC) chairman on Monday afternoon.

The NCC had planned a press conference at Accra Sports Stadium to air their grievances following the club’s failure to reach the group stage, popularly known as the money zone.

“NCC chairman has been taken by the police department and hence the press conference won’t come off. Odotei did this,” Phobian Bird on Twitter alleged.

Hearts of Oak have won only one match this season and sacked coach Samuel Boadu in late September after a poor start to season.

Portuguese side FC Felgueiras 1932 sign Ghanaian youngster Samuel Osei Kuffour

0

Ghanaian youngster Samuel Osei Kuffour has completed his transfer from Bechem United to FC Felgueiras 1932 of Portugal’s Ligue 3.

The 20-year-old was without a doubt one of the Hunters’ finest players in the 2021–2022 season after having a spectacular debut Ghana Premier League season with them.

His outstanding performance last season, which included 31 league matches and a goal, caught the attention of some of the nation’s finest clubs.

The steadfast defender will undoubtedly want to earn a spot on the first team upon his arrival at the Estadio Dr. Machado de Matos and thereafter establish himself as a mainstay in the group.

Osei Kuffour recently played for the Black Galaxies, who qualified for the 2023 African Nations Championship, which will take place in Algeria early the following year.

Samuel Boadu’s behaviour during the Real Bamako match was improper – Hearts legend Prince Tagoe

0

Former Hearts of Oak forward, Prince Tagoe, asserts that Samuel Boadu, an ex-coach, behaved improperly after being seen near the inner perimeter during the match against AS Real Bamako.

Boadu entered the inner perimeter prior to the game to support his former players and supporters after being fired last month following a dismal run of games.

However, Tagoe believes that if the former Medeama coach wanted to motivate the players before the game, he could have done it by phone.

“I think what Samuel Boadu did wasn’t right. Professionally, I don’t think it’s right to go into the inner perimeter. He should remember he is a coach and not a supporter. He could’ve called the boys on phone to motivate them if that was the intention,” he told Angel TV.

Hearts of Oak were knocked out of the tournament after a 3-1 aggregate defeat against the Malian outfit.

Boadu was carried aloft after the game by fans of the club in a show of appreciation of his time with Hearts, where he won five trophies in two years.
