Sports as an avenue to position the youth in Asante Akyem North – Ohene Kwame Frimpong’s perspective

0

By: Bernard Nyankomago Kwasi

As a young man with great vision, independent candidate Ohene Kwame Frimpong, aspirant for the Asante Akyem North Constituency Member of Parliament seat, is leaving no stone unturned for the betterment of his people.

Throughout his campaign, he has demonstrated his willingness to raise Asante Akyem North to great heights if voted into power on Dec 7, 2024.

Hence, Ohene Kwame Frimpong has laid down proper and strategic structures that serve in the interest of his constituency and sports is not exempted.

He believes sports is an avenue to assist the youth who are endowed with various talents in football, athletes, etc.

Noted for his immense assistance to farmers, businessmen and women, students and unemployed youth in the area, his deep interest in sports, particularly football cannot be overlooked.

In the last couple of years, he has organised football gala competitions in some communities in Asante Akyem North with the aim of uniting and also unearthing football talents.

Currently, he is undertaking an astro turf project in Ananekrom, a village of Agogo Asante Akyem, to boost training facilities in the vicinity.

Agogo can boast of two artificial pitches at the moment but Honourable Ohene Kwame Frimpong believes there is the need to develop more standard training grounds across Asante Akyem North to facilitate football and athletes development.

Through that talents will be produced for the various national teams and football clubs in Ghana. It will also serve as a profession for the youth.

“There are a lot of talents when it comes to football in Asante Akyem North. You remember Frank Osei was produced from Agogo in the early 2000. He became a national asset apart from the great impact he made for King Faisal and Kotoko.

“We still have many talents here, and we cannot allow them to go waste. Already we are helping some of them.

“If I am voted into power on December 7, I will continue to support them because helping people to live well has always been my portion” said Ohene Kwame Frimpong.

2025 AfconQ: Otto Addo drops Partey, calls up three home-based players as he names 25-man squad for Angola and Niger games

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has unveiled a 25-man squad for Ghana’s upcoming crucial AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, with notable selections including three home-based players, while star midfielder Thomas Partey has been dropped.

Addo has called up Asante Kotoko’s Emmanuel Antwi and Nations defender Razak Simpson, who will join Samartex defender Isaac Afful as the three local players to make the roster.

In contrast, Partey, who missed the double-header against Sudan in October, has again been excluded. Addo explained that he had a private conversation with the Arsenal midfielder, noting, “I had a confidential talk with Thomas. I am the coach who always wants to protect the players,”

“The whole point for me was getting the understanding. I am not going to tell you the internal issues, but I made it quite clear to him; he wanted to come, but I made it quite clear why he’s not coming.”

Addo’s squad is strengthened by the return of Premier League stars Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Fatawu Issahaku, and Antoine Semenyo, with Joseph Paintsil and Ibrahim Osman rejoining after injuries.

Ghana will need to secure victories in both games and hope Sudan falter to qualify for the tournament in Morocco. Black Stars will play Angola on November 15 in Luanda and three days later take on Niger in Accra.

Mohammed Kudus gets additional two-game ban; fined £60,000 after ‘slap’ incident

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has been handed an additional two-game ban for his conduct in West Ham United’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

Kudus kicked and slapped Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven before putting his hands in the face of Pape Matar Sarr in a breakdown towards the end of his side’s 4-1 loss.

Andrew Madley initially showed Kudus a yellow card, but the VAR urged a review, and the midfielder was handed a straight red.

The 24-year-old, who opened the scoring for West Ham in the London derby, will now serve an additional two-game suspension and pay a £60,000 fine on top of his initial three-game ban after the Football Association’s review.

His three-game suspension was supposed to expire after the Hammers’ encounter against Everton this weekend, but he will now also miss games against Newcastle and Arsenal following the international break. West Ham were also fined £30,000 for failing to control their players.

A statement from the FA read: “West Ham United and Mohammed Kudus have been sanctioned in relation to incidents during their Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 19 October.

“It was alleged that the club failed to ensure their players didn’t behave in an improper and/or provocative and/or violent way around the 82nd minute. West Ham United admitted to this charge, and an independent Regulatory Commission subsequently fined the club £30,000.

“It was also alleged that Mohammed Kudus acted in an improper manner and/or used violent conduct after the offence that he was sent off for. The forward admitted to this charge, and he has been given a two-match suspension and £60,000 fine by the Regulatory Commission.”

Kudus is expected to return to the West Ham team for their away game against Leicester City on December 3.

Manchester United appoint Ruben Amorim as head coach

0

Manchester United have appointed Ruben Amorim as their new head coach.

The 39-year-old Portuguese, who will move to Old Trafford from Lisbon club Sporting on 11 November, has signed a contract until June 2027.

Former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took charge on an interim basis after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday, will stay on for the club’s next three fixtures.

Amorim is the sixth permanent manager United have appointed since Sir Alex Ferguson’s 26-year reign ended with his retirement in 2013.

In a statement, the club said Amorim “is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football”.

Sporting confirmed in a statement that United have agreed to pay 11m euros (£9.25m) to trigger a release clause in Amorim’s contract.

Amorim’s first fixture in charge of the Red Devils is set be on 24 November, after the international break, in the Premier League against newly promoted Ipswich.

His first home game will be against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League on 28 November, with a league game against Everton the following weekend.

United will announce who will be on Amorim’s coaching staff at a later date.

Amorim could bring as many as five coaches with him. Carlos Fernandes, 29, and Adelio Candido, 28, have been with Amorim since he started out as a manager with Casa Pia.

Emanuel Ferro, goalkeeping coach and sports scientist Paulo Barreira are others who might also move to Old Trafford.

After losing against rivals Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup on 3 August, Amorim has guided the side he led to last season’s Primeira Liga title through a 14-game unbeaten run.

Amorim is due to be in the dugout on Friday when Sporting host Estrela in a league game (20:15 GMT).

Sporting are also at home in the Champions League on Tuesday when they play Manchester City. Amorim’s last game in charge is set to be against former club Braga in the league on 10 November, before European top-flight football pauses for Nations League games.

Man United sack Manager Erik Ten Hag

0

Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club’s poor start to the season.

Ten Hag’s final game was Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham that left the club 14th in the Premier League with just three wins from their opening nine matches.

United are also 21st of 36 teams in the Europa League table, having drawn their three opening fixtures.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.

The club said Van Nistelrooy would be in charge “while a permanent head coach is recruited”.

Ten Hag was informed of the decision by chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth during a face-to-face meeting at the club’s Carrington training ground on Monday morning.

Club sources have stressed this was a difficult decision but a unanimous one.

“Thanks for everything, boss,” United captain Bruno Fernandes wrote on Instagram.

“I appreciate the trust and the moments we share together, I wish you all the best in the future.”

The club triggered a one-year extension in Ten Hag’s contract following May’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City but just over three months later he has been dismissed.

United have their second-lowest Premier League points tally after nine games, with 11 points (they had 10 at this stage in the 2019-20 campaign).

The club are now seeking their sixth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

VIDEO: “I swear by my life, if any of you decide you won’t play for Ghana, we will still get XI players” – GFA President Kurt Okraku blasts Black Stars ahead of Sudan clash on Thursday

Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has voiced his dissatisfaction with the Black Stars’ underwhelming start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Speaking ahead of their crucial doubleheader against Sudan, Okraku criticised the team’s lack of passion and urgency following a disappointing performance in their first two matches.

Ghana opened their campaign with a defeat to Angola in Kumasi, blaming the poor state of the pitch for the result. However, even on a better surface in Morocco, the team could only manage a lacklustre draw against Niger.

With just one point from two games, the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for AFCON now hang in the balance. Okraku’s message reflected the growing pressure on the team to perform.

“The minimum I expect, the minimum Ghana expects, is a team that will show passion and desire to play for our country,” Okraku stated. “It’s either you decide to die for Ghana, or you will not, and then you’ll never be selected.”

The GFA President went on to remind the players of the honour of representing Ghana.

“Once you put on the national jersey, that should give you the pride to fight, to show passion, aggression, and the desire to win.”

The Black Stars face Sudan in two vital fixtures, with the first match set for Thursday, October 10, and the return leg four days later in Libya.

Ghana currently trails group leaders Angola, who have six points, and Sudan, who have three.

Failure to secure maximum points from these games could see Ghana miss out on AFCON qualification for the first time since 2004.

As the pressure mounts, Okraku’s words serve as both a rallying cry and a warning to the team.

Kotoko provides update on Capital City Africa Cup preparations amid visa challenges

Asante Kotoko SC wishes to update our valued supporters, stakeholders, and the general public on the club’s preparations for the upcoming Capital City Africa Cup, set to take place in Washington, D.C. on October 12, 2024.

We are very aware of the concerns raised by our fans regarding the current visa situation, which has affected the timely departure of the full team. These concerns are legitimate, and the Club understands the unease surrounding our participation under these circumstances. We want to assure our fans that we are carefully monitoring the situation to ensure the best possible outcome for Asante Kotoko SC.

The event organizers have provided strong assurances that they are working diligently to resolve the visa issues for the remaining members of our team. According to their commitments, the outstanding visas will be secured by Thursday night, October 10, 2024, ahead of the scheduled match on Saturday.

At this time, the first group of players, consisting of Mohammed Camara, Abdulhamid Esmat, Justice Blay, Samba O’Neil, Emmanuel Antwi, Elvis Kyei Baffour, and Abdulrahman Yoouef Yagoub, along with assistant coach David Ocloo, goalkeeper’s coach Najahu Issah, and team manager Henry Ohene Brenya, will depart Ghana today. This contingent will be led by head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, ensuring that initial preparations for the tournament can proceed. We are anticipating that the next group of players and officials will join them by Friday if the organizers fulfil their commitments.

While we remain hopeful that all matters will be resolved promptly, it is important to note that our continued participation depends on the successful fulfillment of the organizers’ assurances, and a total boycott from the match, should we be unsuccessful in securing visas for the rest of the contingent. The management will act in the best interests of Asante Kotoko SC, and any decisions made will reflect our commitment to upholding the values and integrity of the club.

We deeply appreciate the loyalty and understanding of our fans during this time and will continue to provide timely updates as the situation develops.

Signed,

IMC.
