Zito, Laryea Kingson take charge of Black Starlets

Abdul Karim Zito, Laryea Kingson and Jacob Nettey will steer the affairs of the national male U-17 team – otherwise known as Black Starlets for the next one year.

Karim Zito – a gold medalist at the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations will now be assisted by Laryea Kingson and Jacob Nettey. Abdul Karim Zito formerly played for GIHOC Stars, Juantex FC, Asante Kotoko and Kumapim Stars in a career that spanned two and half decades. He is also a former coach of Asante Kotoko, Accra Hearts of Oak, Feyenoord Academy (WAFA), King Faisal and Kwaebibirem FC.

Laryea Kingson: is a former Ghanaian International who won 42 caps for the Black Stars and played in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2006 and 2008.

Jacob Nettey – Is a former captain of Accra Hearts of Oak who led them to the famous CAF Champions League glory in 2000. Jacob featured for the Black Stars during the Africa Cup of Nations in 2000 – co-hosted by Ghana and Nigeria and is a member of the Ghanaian squad at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta – USA. He won six Premier League titles and three FA Cup trophies whiles playing for Accra Hearts of Oak.

The new technical team has been tasked to assemble a formidable squad for the next edition of the WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations and the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ex-Hearts of Oak coach Samuel Boadu lands Black Satellites job

Samuel Boadu has been appointed as Coach of the Black Satellites. The former Accra Hearts of Oak and Medeama SC coach takes over from Abdul Karim Zito who led Ghana to win gold at the 2021 U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania.

Samuel Boadu coached Accra Hearts of Oak to their first double in two decades – Premier League and MTN FA Cup titles in the 2020/21 season.

The former Prestea Mine Stars, Ghapoha FC and Berekum Arsenal midfielder will be assisted by Desmond Offei – a 35-year-old UEFA A (Level 4) Licensed Professional football coach. Desmond is a former U-18 Head Coach and U-21 coach at Royal Antwerp FC. He is also a former Lokeren U-21 and Lusitano SAD Head Coach.

The other Assistant Coach is Salifu Fatawu – a former FC Tanga and Swedru All Blacks coach who previously worked under Karim Zito to win gold in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania in 2021.

Meanwhile former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatawu Dauda has also been drafted in as goalkeepers Coach. He played for Okwaku United, AshantiGold SC, Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Enyimba FC and Legon Cities. Fatawu featured for Ghana at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2013, 2015 and 2017 respectively.

Their immediate assignment is to lead Ghana to the 2023 African Games slated for Accra in August next year.

Sulley Muntari urges Ghana FA to maintain current Black Stars squad

Ghana legend Sulley Ali Muntari wants the current Black Stars team maintained following World Cup exit.

The Black Stars were eliminated after the first round of the tournament following a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

After defeating South Korea in their second group game, the Black Stars needed a draw or win against Uruguay to advance to the last 16 stage.

But the team failed to negotiate for points against their ‘enemies’ Uruguay.

Ghana made a strong start to the game, but fell apart after captain Andre Ayew missed a penalty in the 21st minute, a repeat of what happened in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Speaking to 3Sports, the former Inter and AC Milan star asserted the current Black Stars players should be the base for the future of the national team if the four-time African Champions are to make impact in subsequent tournament.

“I can’t wait to see these kids progress not now, in future. Like hold them together, I am one but of course I am going to talk to the management, coaches and probably the President, you don’t dismantle this team”

“Whatever happens here, you still hold these kids because they are very young. You don’t change most of them, just a little maybe one or two then you just polish them. Let say 8-9 players should be the base for the future of the national team. Eight players should be like the foundation of the Black Stars” he said.

The Black Stars will now shift attention to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to begin in earnest.

The four-time African champions sit top of Group D with four points from the first two games of the qualifiers.

Match Report: Asante Kotoko and Bofoakwa Tano draw blank in friendly

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko shared the spoils with Division One League side Tano Bofoakwa in a friendly on Sunday.

It was a preparatory game for both teams towards the resumption of the leagues after the World Cup finals from December 19,2022.

The game had to end in a pulsating goalless draw in Sunyani as both teams failed to convert their chances.

Despite numerous goal scoring opportunities, both teams were unable to find the back of the net.

Kotoko coach Seydou Zerbo paraded a very strong starting lineup to face the Division One side.

Captain Richard Boadu, Stephen Amankona, George Mfegue and other top players were handed starting roles but that could not stopped Bofoakwa from negotiating for a draw.

This is a good test for the Porcupine Warriors who are keen on defending their Ghana Premier League title this season.

They currently sit 3rd position with 14 points after 8 matches into the 2022/23 campaign.

Black Galaxies coach Annor Walker gives update on Afriyie Barnieh and Danlad Ibrahim ahead of 2023 CHAN tournament

Head Coach of the Black Galaxies Annor Walker has disclosed that influential duo Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Ibrabim Danlad will team up with the rest of the squad at the Ghanaman Soccer Center in Prampram in the coming days.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh and Ibrabim Danlad are part of Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be played in Algeria from Friday, January 13 to Saturday, February 4, 2023.

However, they are yet to report to camp due to their involvement with the senior national team, the Black Stars at the 2022 World Cup currently taking place in place in Qatar.

Opening up on when the duo will join the local national team in camp after Ghana’s exit from the group stages of the World Cup, head coach, Annor Walker said:

“Barnieh and Danlad are already part of the team before they were invited to the Black Stars to travel to Qatar for the World Cup and I am told they are town. But this morning, I heard Danlad is ill and has been admitted at the hospital. So seriously, I am expecting them to report to camp, when Danlad is okay, said Annor Walker as quoted by Ghanafa.org.

“For Barnie I don’t know about his condition but I am expecting them to join us here so that we can all work together before we move outside Ghana,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Black Galaxies came from a goal down to beat Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 in a friendly encounter in Prampram earlier today.

Hearts of Oak went into the halftime break a goal up through Amankwaah Baafi, before Bright Adjei and David Abagna scored in the second half for the Black Galaxies.

Black Galaxies defeat Hearts of Oak in friendly

Ghana’s local national team, the Black Galaxies came from a goal down to beat Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 in a friendly encounter at the Ghanaman Soccer Center in Prampram.

The Phobians went into the halftime break a goal up through youngster Amankwaah Baafi. In the second half, the Galaxies turned the game around, scoring through Bright Adjei of Aduana FC and David Abagna of Real Tamale United (RTU).

The two teams used the friendly game to prepare for their upcoming assignments. Hearts of Oak are preparing for the resumption of the Premier League on Monday, December 19, while the Black Galaxies are preparing for the 2022 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be played in Algeria from Friday, January 13 to Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Ghana has been pitted in Group C for the group stages of the CHAN alongside holders Morocco, two-time bronze winners Sudan and debutants Madagascar.

The Black Galaxies will kickoff their campaign against Madagascar on Sunday, January 15, before playing Sudan on Thursday, January 19 and Morocco on Monday, January 23.

2022 World Cup: Heartbreak for England after defeat by France

England’s World Cup campaign ended in disappointment as they went out despite a fine performance in the quarter-final against France at Al Bayt Stadium.

Harry Kane’s late penalty miss proved decisive after he had earlier equalled Wayne Rooney’s England record of 53 goals from the spot.

France took a 17th-minute lead when Aurelien Tchouameni’s 25-yard drive beat Jordan Pickford low to his right.

England were the better team for long spells and created chances, deservedly pulling level nine minutes after the break when Kane beat Tottenham team-mate Hugo Lloris in convincing fashion with his penalty after Tchouameni fouled Bukayo Saka.

France regained the lead 12 minutes from time when Olivier Giroud headed in Antoine Griezmann’s perfect cross but England had a swift chance to draw level when Theo Hernandez fouled substitute Mason Mount in the box.

Kane had the opportunity make history but uncharacteristically blazed his penalty over the top and England’s World Cup dream was over as France look forward to a semi-final against Morocco.

2022 World Cup: Morocco stun Portugal to reach historic semi-final

Morocco became the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final and ended the hopes of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored the winning goal in the first half, leaping highest to beat goalkeeper Diogo Costa to the ball and heading in to spark pandemonium at Al Thumama Stadium.

The north African side’s supporters populated most of the venue and joyously celebrated their breakthrough moment for their continent on the global stage.

Ronaldo came off the bench in the 50th minute to equal the men’s all-time appearance record of 196 in international matches, but he could not drag his side back into the contest.

Morocco were happy to play on the counter and grabbed the opener just before the break when En-Nesyri headed in from Yahya Attiyat-Allah’s cross.

Portugal skipper Bruno Fernandes came agonisingly close to levelling just minutes later but a brilliant individual effort struck the crossbar.

Decimated by injuries, Morocco sat back for the majority of the second half and Yassine Bounou brilliantly tipped over Joao Felix’s drive – the closest they came to an equaliser.

Morocco striker Walid Cheddira was sent off for a second yellow card in eight minutes of additional time but Portugal could not find the equaliser as their last-four hopes were dashed.
