Ghana FA reveals when domestic transfer window will be opened

Ghanaian clubs are to be informed that the Second Registration Window for the 2022/23 season will be opened from 00:01am on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

The Registration Window will close at 23:59pm on Friday, February 10, 2023.

However, the International and Domestic Transfer Window will open from 00:01am on Sunday, January 1, 2023 and close at 23:59pm Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

All Clubs are to take note accordingly and transfer their players through the ITMS /DTMS before the transfer deadline on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Clubs must also register their players in the FIFA Connect when the registration window opens on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 and before it closes at 23:59pm on Friday, February 10, 2023.

Ghana’s World Cup star Ati Zigi wins best player award in Swiss Super League

Black Stars goalkeeper, Lawrence Ati Zigi has been adjudged Switzerland Super League best player in the first round of the season after an outstanding 2022 with St. Gallen.

The 26-year-old has been one of his team’s most consistent performers, as they sit third in the league table this season with 24 points after 16 games.

Ati Zigi was named Player of the Month for November before the World Cup in Qatar, where he started all three games for the Black Stars.

The Ghana shot stopper made solid 58 saves in the first round- a remarkable display which was enough for him to fend off tougher oppositions from David Douline (Servette FC), Valon Fazlu (FC Aarau), Cedric Itten (FC Young Boys) and Koro Kone (Yverdon FC) to the award.

Ati Zigi played in all of Ghana’s World Cup games as the Black Stars were eliminated at the group stage. With only three points, the Black Stars finished last in their group.

The Swiss League will recommence on January 23, 2023, after the Christmas break.

MTN FA Cup: Checkout teams that have qualified for Round of 32

Hearts of Oak are through to the Round 32 stage of the 2022/23 MTN FA Cup competition.

The defending champions today locked horns with lower-tier side, Uncle T United, in the Round 64 stage.

Although the capital-based club will trail at halftime, the team came from behind to beat the opponent 3-1 at the end of the 90 minutes.

Courtesy of the win, Hearts of Oak have advanced to the Round 32 stage of the competition.

Other Ghana Premier League clubs that managed to progress to the next stage of the competition include Asante Kotoko, Dreams FC, Aduana Stars, and others.

The Ghana Premier League match day 10 fixtures will kick off from New Year’s Eve through to Monday Jan 2, 2023, the Ghana FA has announced.

Sixth placed Legon Cities who recorded a resounding victory against Kotoku Royals, will play Karela United at the WAFA Park at Sogakope on Friday, December 30, before Accra Hearts of Oak do battle with Bechem United on Saturday, December 31, 2022.

Champions Asante Kotoko have a date with League leaders Aduana FC at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park on Sunday, January 01, 2023 whiles Berekum Chelsea clash with Bibiani Gold Stars at the Golden City Park on Monday, January 02, 2023 to wrap up the Match Day 10 fixtures.

The betPawa Premier League which went on a one month break for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 finals, bounced back on Monday, December 19, 2022.

Two-time Champions Aduana FC lead the pack with 19 points – two points richer than Champions Asante Kotoko who are in second place with 17 points. Accra Hearts of Oak, Bibiani Gold Stars and Accra Lions FC follow in third, fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Transfer News: Christopher Nettey closes in on Hearts of Oak move after Kotoko exit

Accra Hearts of Oak are reportedly in advance talks to secure the signature of Christopher Nettey on a free transfer.

Nettey is currently unattached following the expiration of his three-year contract at Asante Kotoko this month. He kicked against the club’s contract extension negotiations.

According to PhobianNews.com, the 24-year-old right-back’s move to Hearts is being facilitated by the club’s assistant coach David Johnson Ocloo. Slavko Matic is believed to be an admirer of Nettey and the player is keen on the move to his childhood club Hearts.

He has in recent months struggled to solidify his position at Asante Kotoko after being given stern competition by Augustine Agyapong who joined at the beginning of last season and Samuel Appiah at the right full-back position of the Porcupine Warriors.

Nettey enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence in 2020 with his performances with the Porcupine Warriors earning him a call-up to Ghanas’ Black Stars for the first time for Ghana AFCON 2021 qualifiers double-header against Sudan and made his debut in Ghana’s 2-0 win over Sudan at the Cape Coast stadium in November 2020.

With few days to the January transfer window, key changes in setup could be seen at both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. Kotoko are believed tracking former Hearts of Oak defender Mohammed Alhassan while Hearts could lose their top most asset Afriyie Barnieh after MLS side Cincinnati and Egyptian Premier League leaders Al Ahly on the table to agree a deal for the forward.

Hearts have also parted ways with right-back and captain Fatawu Mohammed which limit options at the position to former Black Stars star Samuel Inkoom. Hearts have been forced to find replacement for Fatawu and have identified Christopher Nettey to bolster their campaign.

Nettey who left Kotoko on Tuesday is one of the additions Hearts are now confident of ahead of next month’s window.

Black Galaxies beat Egypt U-20 in pre-CHAN friendly match

The Black Galaxies scored in both halves to record a 2-0 win over Egypt U-20 in an international friendly played at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday, December 27.

Kofi Kordzi and Sylvester Simba scored in the 15th and 57th minute respectively for the Black Galaxies in the match which was played behind-closed-doors.

After dominating the opening minutes of the game, Kordzi broke the deadlock on the 15th minute mark when he tapped in from close range.

After the break, Black Galaxies kept their feet on the pedal and doubled the lead with Simba curling in from inside the box.

Coach Annor Walker made five changes to the set up with Razak Kassim, Benjamin Abaidoo, Augustine Boakye, Jonah Atuuquaye and Kwame Otu coming on for Gladson Awako, Augustine Randolph, Dennis Korsah, Sylvester Simba and Kofi Kordzi.

Solomon Adomako also replaced Henry Ansu in the 75th minute.

Tuesday’s friendly is the first of test games lined up for Coach Annor Walker’s side during their stay in Cairo where they are preparing for next month’s TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN).

The team could face an Egyptian Premier League side in the next friendly as part of the build up to the CHAN tournament.

FA Cup: Hearts Of Oak fight back to beat Uncle T United

Giants Hearts of Oak staged a strong fightback to beat lower-tier side Uncle T United 3-1 in a round of 64 clash in the MTN FA Cup at the Ghanaman Soccer Center of Excellence in Prampram on Wednesday afternoon.


Uncle T United, bankrolled by former Hearts of Oak management member Isaac Tetteh, took the lead with just 5 minutes left for the break.


The Phobians came into the second-half trailing 1-0 but the deficit lasted for only 4 minutes into the second stanza as skipper Salifu Ibrahim curled home a free kick to level the scoring for Slavko Matic’s men.


Attacker Kwadwo Obeng Junior put the Rainbow club into the lead for the first-time with through a clinical finish.

Benjamin Yorke then sealed the victory for the title holders as Matic extended his unbeaten run to 7 games in charge of the former African champions.

Christopher Nettey bids farewell to Asante Kotoko

With his time at Asante Kotoko now at an end, Christopher Nettey has posted a farewell message to the Porcupine supporters.


In the note, published on his Twitter feed, the defender thanks the reigning Ghana Premier League champions for giving him the opportunity to serve the club. 

He noted that he cherished every moment during his stay with the Ghanaian giants.


Christopher Nettey joined Asante Kotoko in 2019 for a fee of US $34, 000 over a three-year period from lower-tier side Attram De’Visser Academy. 


According to our sources, Kotoko decided against renewing the contract as the demands of the player were seen as excessive. 

Nettey established himself as a mainstay with the club.


His consistency with the Porcupine Warriors earned him a national team call-up, where he made his debut against Sudan in an AFCON qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Ghana Premier holders Asante Kotoko SC have parted ways with fullback Christopher Nettey.

The two parties were locked in negotiations for some months about extending the defender’s deal beyond his current contract which was near expiration on December 26, 2022. Still, according to sources close to the club, it decided against renewing the deal as the demands of the player were seen as excessive. 

Nettey since joining the Porcupine Warriors in December 2019 from lower-tier side Attram de Visser Academy went on to establish himself as a mainstay with the club.

Black Galaxies take on Egypt U-20 in friendly today ahead of 2023 CHAN tourney

The Black Galaxies will play a friendly game against the national U20 team of Egypt, the Young Pharaohs at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Ghana’s homebased national team are currently in Cairo as part of preparations for the upcoming TotalEnergies African Nations Championship(CHAN) which will be staged in Algeria from January 13- February 4, 2023.

A delegation made up of players, technical staff and officials arrived in Cairo on Saturday and held an intensive training session at the Pyramid FC training pitch on Monday morning.

Tuesday’s friendly against Egypt U20 will be the first of friendly games the Black Galaxies will play during their stay in Egypt.

Ghana makes a return to the CHAN tournament for the first time since 2014 when they lost on penalties to Libya in the final match.
